About the property

One-Room Cabin with kitchen, living and sleeping areas. 1 full bath/shower stal

Conveniently located near popular area attractions and outdoor activities, Fern Creek Cabins offer in-season (Memorial Day Weekend through November) affordable vacation lodging in the beautiful mountains of southern West Virginia. Our cabins sit on 40 private acres of pristine hemlock forrest near the north rim of the New River Gorge National River.

For those who just want to relax, Fern Creek Cabins offers plenty of space to roam about the property. Our cabins have comfortable porches equipped with grills and hot tubs, outdoor fire pits, and lots of beautiful yard space for throwing horseshoes or playing softball.

We welcome well behaved pets.

We ask our guests to not smoke in our cabins.

While our 2 cabin's share the peaceful seclusion of the Appalachians, it is but a few short miles over New River Gorge Bridge to downtown Fayetteville, named 'Coolest Small Town in America.' Come visit, and take a walk around. You’ll find a vibrant shopping district and fantastic restaurants, windows to browse with lots to buy, and a lovely town park.

'Endless Wall Trail' lies a mile around the corner which tours one of the wonders of the New River Gorge -- the unbroken cliffline known as the Endless Wall, which follows the rim of the gorge and offers access to dozens of bolted climbing routes. Breathtaking panoramas await hikers as the trail leads along the top of the cliffs through gnarled pines, mossy boulders, and rhododendron thickets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Tom/Janet,

Sorry it took so long but I would like to let you know how much Judy and I enjoyed our stay. It was actually the first "real" vacation I have taken since joining the Army in 1979. The location provided me peace and relaxation I forgot was possible. Depending on schedule and life's events, we plan to come stay there again some time.

Marion, your grounds keeper, was more than helpful. She worked to maintain the grounds like it was her own. Its hard these days to get good help that you don't have to watch out for or supervise all the time. She was "johnnie on the spot" everyday weedeating, mowing and making sure whatever we needed was taken care of. It was a most excellent vacation and adventure.

Again, had a fantastic, relaxing and rejuevenationg time. I hope to be able to use your cabins again in the future.

Thanks ever so much!

Tim & Judy

Great getaway!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed 2 nights following 4 days of a family trip to Washington, D.C. We wanted a quiet, relaxing getaway, on our way home from the city, and that is exactly what this place provided. It was clean, secluded & cozy. Our kids loved the bunk beds and hot tub. The kitchen was equipped for us to cook our own meals, which we did a few times. We LOVED reading through the guestbook on the coffee table. That's a fun idea, and we came away with some great places to eat in nearby Fayetteville because of the recommendations in the book.

My only caveat is the size of the shower/bathroom...it's super small. We kept getting the floor wet because of how it was situated. And, this may be too much info, but the woman in our family could not shave her legs in this shower. That would be a deal-breaker for us in future properties. (I will ask in the future how large the shower is.) Just think you should know if that's important to you. :) Otherwise, a great property and location!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Just wanted to let you know we have plans to enlarge and remodel the bathroom this winter. That's been on our list since we bought the property. Hope you'll come back and enjoy another stay in the future.

Clean, quiet country escape. Peaceful property, felt a million miles from everyday life.

We really enjoyed the one room cabin. Enough space to stretch out, well stocked and nicely furnished. Location was great for our weekend of whitewater and mountain bikes. Already looking at the calendar for dates to return.

Great find!

  • 5 of 5

Second time staying at the Fern Creek Cabins and I hope we'll find a time to come back for a third. So peaceful and cozy. We can sit outside at the fire pit or in the hot tub and gaze at the stars huddle up indoors and watch a great selection of dvd's on the big flat screen. Perfectly modest yet equipped with the modern comforts you enjoy.

Great little cabin. Hot tub, fire pit, and room to throw a frisbee after climbing all day.

  • 4 of 5

Nice one room cabin with a front porch and back porch with a hot tub and grill. One large room. Good for a large family or group of close friends, as there isn’t much privacy. Overall we really enjoyed our stay!
