About this property

A Quiet Heaven In The Midst Of City Life

This historic cottage is located in the midst of popular de Waterkant district. De Waterkant, situated on the slopes of Signal Hill and overlooking Table Bay, has a history that dates back to the 1700’s. Colourful De Waterkant Village is a unique European influenced village of semi-detached quaint cottages and cobbled streets preserved from the 1760’s. Cradled between the city and the V&A Waterfront, De Waterkant Village is a cultural urban refuge with many restaurants, art galleries, gay clubs, salsa clubs, tapas bars and Parisian inspired café’s.
The city center, Bo Kaap and the popular Waterfront are within easy reach. The Cape Quarters Mall is a 5 minute walk away.

The historic De Waterkant Village is the perfect base for a visit to Cape Town City. Not only is it within walking distance of the CBD and all that Cape Town City has to offer, but we also have the trendy Cape Quarter features a Spar for all daily needs and boasts a variety of restaurants, bars, health and beauty, a laundry, a florist and even a bank machine.

Visit for instance Beluga Restaurant at the Foundry. Stroll by Different by Design jewelers, where you can watch how master pieces are created.

This cottage was originally constructed by those workers who build Cape Town harbor. It is a historical building and under heritage protection. It has been lovingly restored while retaining its original character.
In keeping with the historic character of the cottage, it has been furnished with lovingly selected items new and old. Please do not take any items, no matter how much you love them, with you when you leave.
The cottage is located in a very safe area. None the less, please ensure you keep the gate to the alley closed at all times to retain safety. Please be mindful when closing the gate.

The cottage has an L-shape lounge/ dining area with a sleeper couch that sleeps two, a bedroom with a queen size bed as well as bath and fully equip kitchen (espresso machine, kettle, toaster, microwave, stove, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and even a cooler bag for beach picnics). An old travelling case serves as extra wardrobe and room divider. You will also find summer blankets for the sleeper couch in the second top drawer as well as the cushions for the outside seating area in the case.
There is a selection of DVDs for the TV as well as books and games for entertainment when you want to stay at home for the night.

You will find bathroom towels in the bathroom cabinet. The switch for the towel drying rack is outside next to the light switch. As electricity is very expensive please do turn it off when not in use.

I hope you will find the kitchen well equipped with everything you need. There is a microwave, toaster, electric kettle and Espresso machine. The machine takes either Nespresso or a no name brand available at Spar.

Hot Water: The gyser is typically turned off when no one is in residence. It can be turned on/ off with the switch inside the top left bedroom cupboard.
Towel Drying Rack: There are two switches outside the bathroom, one for light and one for towel rack. Please turn the latter only on if you want to use it.
Bedding and Blankets: Blankets for the sleeper couch are in the trunk, which also doubles as a wardrobe and room divider. Sheets for the bedding in the bedroom are in a box under the bed should there be a need to change them.

WIFI: is pay as you go. You can top up data as needed at any Vodafone shop.

Cleaning: A cleaner comes once a week. She will change sheets and towels. If daily cleaning is required an additional fee of ZAR 300 will be charged per day, this covers cost of cleaner and transportation.

Beach Towels: are in the bedroom wardrobe. There are also some Sarongs as well as beach bag and a sun umbrella for your use.

Even though typically only residents come and go in the alley, please do not leave cushions and other items outside to avoid them getting lost. Also ensure all windows are closed when you leave the house.

If you break it or loose it you pay for it.

Homely stay
We simply loved our time at this spot. Ideal location and it had everything we needed. We were able to walk most places and when we were home we were able to enjoy the cute outside area. It felt like home to us as we could feel that the owner really made the place hers. We loved it and will be back!

Cottage in cape town
Lovely clean cottage with everything you need for a short stay in Cape Town. The apartment is on a quiet street with excellent security all around. Many who travel to Cape Town will have concerns over security like we did however having spent a week in this space i can attest to how safe my wife and I were. Great find. If i come back i would book again.

I am a German national, but currently reside in Washington DC. I am a true global nomad, having lived in some 15 countries and worked and travelled to over 90.

Cape Town is my second home as I have spend my final school and early university years there. It is the longest I have lived in anyone place in my life until the day I left. Cape Town is a beautiful city offering almost any activity you can conceive doing. It has a lovely relaxed life style, good food and nice people. To me it has always been home and with buying this property I have made it my second home.

Why they chose this property

The little cottage appealed to me instantly. Tucked away in a private gated lane it immediately felt secure. The lane is lined with Bougainvillias, giving it the feel of paradise in the middle of a bustling city. The cottage is just the right size for me and my daughter. It has one bedroom and a spacious living and dining area. It was build by the Cape Town harbor workers as their residence in 1860 or there about. It has a unique charm; as does the entire neighborhood with the Waterfront and Cape Quarters mall in walking distance (during the day).

What makes this property unique

The cottage is in a very safe neighborhood. It has outside space and is fitted with all that one needs for a holiday. It is my holiday home, so very personal and I expect guests to treat it well adn with respect.
