You get a fully equipped and furnished cabin to move right in. We have 2-bedrooms + large upstairs loft with a queen size bed & sitting area, 3-bathrooms with 2 showers & a large soaking master suite bathtub & 3 toilets (on a septic tank system which we have to pump and haul away all waste) and a full-size washer & dryer.

We have a complete full-size kitchen with a 5-burner gas stove & double convection oven, 25 cu.ft. Refrigerator, large microwave, toaster, 3 coffee maker choices a K-Cup & drip ground & a single combo maker plus a coffee bean grinder, crock pot, Faberware grill, all necessary cooking utensils, appliances, pots & pans and all Taos ceramics & pottery serving dishes, accessories, cups & glasses, bowls, plates, dishes & silverware along with a garbage disposal & full-size automatic dishwasher.

The living room is comfortably furnished with a wood-burning stove/fireplace (& we provide the firewood). We provide a high-end & high-tech entertainment center using a Dish Network satellite with a 48" Samsung Smart TV with a Samsung Blue-Ray DVD, Sony stereo system with CD's, cassettes & AM-FM radio. We provide a second Dish satellite for internet & wi-fi and a land-line telephone with free unlimited domestic long-distance calls. Note: In these mountains cell & satellite reception is sketchy and not always reliable. Therefore we provide our guests with the 2 Dish satellites and telephone.

The Master Suite is sweet and a highlight of this cabin. Included is a king-sized barn wood style bed with a brand new Tempurpedic matress covered with high-end Egyptian cotton sheets and blankets with designer pillows, bedspreads & quilts. There are conveniently located reading lights and nightstands on each side & a leather storage bench at the foot of the bed, with a 6-drawer dresser & hanging mirror, a halltree valet with seating, hanging & shelving plus a additional coat/hat rack, hardwood floors covered with Southwestern rugs, the master suite is heated by a gas burning fireplace & a lighted ceiling fan. In the master bathroom there is a stone sink above a nice vanity, with both a shower plus a large soaking bathtub + the outdoor jacuzzi hot tub on the back deck. The master suite has a double-glass sliding door with a excellent view to see and to hear the calming river rushing by the private deck outside this master suite with your own barista table & chairs. This suite has a 42" Samsung Smart TV on the Dish network with a Samsung Vlue-Ray DVD & a 5-speaker & sub-wolfer surround sound system.

The second private bed & bath rooms on the main floor has a convertible trundle-bed that can be used as a day-bed, two single beds or put together makes it into a king-size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets and designer leather pillows & bed covers. There are hardwood floors covered with leather rugs, a leather sitting stool, ceiling fan with lights, two double sliding closet doors that are fully mirrored across the entire wall. The second private bathroom with shower, large tiled vanity & sink and toilet just outside this bedroom hallway.

The third bathroom that also contains the full size washer & dryer is also in the same hallway.

This cabin Chalet is at 7,200' elevation is only 3 short miles, about a 5-minute drive downhill from the world class sking at Taos Ski Valley resort at 9,200' elevation with New Mexico's highest sking at Kachina Peak with an elevation of 13,000'+.

We now have Internet and wi-fi service through a DishNet satellite which will make your cell phone work plus Dish's Hopper TV 240 channel service including a Netflix account played on two 40" Samsung Smart TV's & DVD players. Pretty remarkable the high technology available high in the mountains and out in the wilderness.

About David McKown

David McKown has worked in the vacation and resort management field thoughout the Hawaiian islands for the past 30 years and has the knowledge and experience to assist our guests to have an enjoyable visit to our Taos Ski Valley mountain chalet.

David McKown purchased this house in 2015

Why David McKown chose New Mexico

We have been coming to NE New Mexico since we were kids and our family has a long history at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM and have always had a desire to spend more time in the area and historic Taos in particular.

What makes this house unique

This is a unique area filled with unique people fulfilling unique experiences. Taos is one of the oldest towns in America ~ 400 y/o in 2015. It is a special, magical and spiritual place with something for most everyone's tastes. Taos Ski Valley is also uniquely special. The entire mountain and ski resort has been owned by one family who outgrew their financial ability to expand the resort. A New York hedge-fund billionaire, Louis Bacon who is also an avid outdoors man, skier, and environmental conservationist (he has donated thousands of acres to be preserved and set-aside for no development) is spending a half-billion dollars in upgrades and improvements to TSV which has already begun. The FAA is upgrading the local Taos Airport building two 9,000' runways. Come stay with us and experience this unique and special place and enjoy all of the new upgrades and improvements at TSV.

Beautiful, relaxing, breath of fresh air!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is perfect for a relaxing getaway. You're just far away enough to make the choice to be disconnected from the daily grind, but close enough to be connected if you so choose. There are plenty of opportunities to live with nature and find your center again. The cabin is well appointed and very comfortable, with everything you could possibly need.

Wonderful Place to Stay!!

  • 5 of 5

My family went this year the week after Christmas. The house was perfect! We cooked many meals and also its close enough to town we went out many meals also. The communication with the owner David is remarkable! He did an outstanding job at making sure our stay was enjoyable. We will definitely visit again. I recommend this house and its owner if you are looking for perfection.

Casual Creekfront

  • 3 of 5

We rented this place because of all the 5 star reviews, and the wanted a get away mountain place we could hang out and fish and play in the water - the home is right on the rio hondo and you do hear the water from the creek all the time which is lovely - but it is also right off of 150 and you get all the road noise and light as well - the creek is shallow, which is nice for wading around in but no fish while we were there - it is also very overgrown everywhere so you can't really use much of it except to get right down to the fire pit. The master has a nice comfortable bed, but no closets or any place to hang your clothes, the master tub is a nice soak for one person and sits above the creek which is a nice end of the day. The deck outside the master was covered in leaves and debris, and you can't really use it as a big tree grows right thru the center of it which takes up much of the narrow space. The hot water heater stopped working mid way thru our stay, and there were no working front lights on the porch or parking which was very dark and hard to see stairs, door lock, etc - we managed by using our car lights - the light above the kitchen table is held up by a bungee cord - odd...but eclectic and cleaning was a bit erratic (i.e.: dead flies and dirt in window sills, dirt behind things, etc - damp towels were hanging in the hall on our arrival which we washed before use (no laundry soap there tho) tubs/sinks and main areas were clean - the kitchen faucet is tricky as it will periodically cause the sprayer to leak or not work, the rear sliding screen door comes off its tracks very easily, the shades do not roll up in the living room, there were broken doors in one of the bedrooms, however there is lots of firewood for the fire pit, the kitchen has plenty of dishes (no coffee, or anything special as often in VRBO's tho - so bring everything you need) - for us who use VRBO's several times a year tho - just overall it missed the feeling and overall great VRBO experience we've had in other places and what we were looking for - it has its pros and cons but isn't the 5 star place you may or may not expect from the ad -

Great place for a relaxing get away.

  • 5 of 5

Great, spacious cabin for a relaxing family get away. This cabin had everything we were looking for... plenty of room, hot tub on the back deck which leads to a firepit by the stream. We spent most nights hanging out by the fire with the sound of the stream right beside us. An ideal place to disconnect from technology and the outside world and reconnect with family. David was very responsive with any questions and concerns we might of had and handled them almost immediately. Will definitely consider going again.

Peace like a river!

  • 5 of 5

Peace like a river! All three decks give you the full experience of the sound and sight of this beautiful water steps away w no other houses. Concerned about road up and otherwise of river- no problem! Inside view when chilly at night was comphy and lovely. Decided to keep the news off, but tv is great. The master and bath was good and very comfortable. Enjoyed the reading lights. We cooked and read alot more than planned because we loved being on the rushing river-will return! David was so helpful when needing help w dish Internet.

Great Location

  • 5 of 5

The location of this property right on the creek makes it an amazing place to stay. It was nice that we were able to stay in the mountains but still close enough to Taos to enjoy things in town such as shopping and dining. It was a nice cool getaway in the middle of summer!

Owner's Response: We feel it is always feels good to be able to help you friends and family, which was this case where our in-laws sent their friends from Lamar, Colorado to stay in our Chalet. We totally agree with you in how relaxing it is having the Rio Hondo River running right through our property, the coolness of these mountains and our close proximity to Taos Town do make our Chalet a great place to go hang-out. You are welcome back to stay in our home anytime you can make it to Taos Ski Valley.
