A peaceful stay in the heart of the White Mountains

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I had a great stay at this cabin. The proprietors where very welcoming and even came to check in on us periodically. The kitchen is well appointed, and there is plenty of seating and lighting. Despite the unseasonably cool weather, we stayed warm with the help of the small electric heater, though there is a wood stove as well. We didn't have any cell phone reception, but we didn't miss it at all; after our days spent hiking the Whites, we were happy enough to spend time toasting s'mores over the fire pit and lounge in relative comfort.

Much of our trip was spent in and around Lincoln and the Kancamagus Highway, which are roughly a 40 minute drive away, but even if you chose to stay near the cabin, there is much more to do in the area than we realized. The lake is a short walk away, as are a few trails, and the Polar Caves are a short drive past Rumney. Next trip, we'll certainly look into all the area around the lake has to offer.

Overall, I highly recommend it. Kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and plates are abundant, but be sure to bring plenty of food, towels, bedsheets, etcetera. We left a supply of s'more-making ingredients for the lucky traveler who stays here next. Thanks, Bill and company, for making our first adventure in New Hampshire an experience to cherish!

Perfectly secluded and well kept.

  • 5 of 5

Our family of five had a wonderful time vacationing at the Waimea cottage. Inside the cabin had everything we needed. We arrived later in the evening to the lights on and the space heater already warming the cozy cabin up. It was clean and very well kept. Outside was exactly what we look for in our early fall getaway. Great yard, access to a charcoal grill, fire pit, chairs and a picnic table. The beach access was just a short drive down the hill and even though we stayed so late in the season we still had handfuls of opportunities to get in the water. The swim rope and floating dock were helpful for my three young children. We all enjoyed the picturesque view of the surrounding Mountains while boating. We also enjoyed exploring the Polor caves and the Rumney general store. Bill and his family were very accommodating and easy to reach when we were in need. We would definitely return for another stay.

Wonderful Waimea

  • 5 of 5

We have not stopped talking about our wonderful week at Waimea cabin. It is nestled in beautiful woods and looks down on pristine Stinson Lake. The cabin was everything we wanted: quaint, private, and serene. The Lawson family was so helpful, accommodating, and welcoming. Checking in was a breeze. We were excited to start each day's adventure and exploration, and I've never never slept so well in my life! There is easy access to any shopping you would require, and many sights to see in the area, as well as numerous activities. There are good and varied restaurants nearby. The lake community and little general stores are fun, and if you need more groceries, clothing, sporting goods are all within a few miles.( hard to believe, as you feel blissfully remote in Waimea.) We also had access to the rowboat, canoes, and kayaks at the Lawsons.I wish we could have stayed longer and I will definitely return.

Super cute and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

My fiance and I loved this little cabin. It was homey, spacious (for the two of us), comfortable and warm. I highly recommend visiting if you love to truly get away from it all and spend some quality quiet time with your family or a few friends. There was a nice wood stove, an outdoor firepit (both with plenty of wood), and small boats available to use in the lake (we didn't because we found we were out and about more than we thought we would be). There was also lots of storage space (two big closets and a dresser) as well as dishes, pans, silverware, and anything you may need to cook a meal (including a grill and charcoal)! Another fun aspect of the trip was that we even heard some animals scurrying about outdoors, including a hooting owl! There was a shelf of books to read as well as many brochures/pamphlets for things to do while on vacation. No cable TV (we don't have it at home either, so that didn't bother us) so we brought some DVDs to watch at night before bed. The only qualm we had was that neither of us had cell phone service at the cabin (Verizon and Sprint) which may be a problem for some. Other than that, we had a wonderful time enjoying the quiet and will surely be back in the future!

Everything we needed!

  • 5 of 5

Bill and family were welcoming hosts, inviting us into their very well maintained and comfortable property. From the moment we arrived, we felt at home and that this was a safe, quiet, and adventurous area for us and our two kids. The lawn allowed them to get out and run; and the lake offered hours of swimming, paddling, and rowing-the water was just right this time of year and so we took long swims out into Lake Stinson. The lake is within sight from the comfortable chairs on the lawn; the dock is about a five minute stroll down a steep, curving, road that is paved on the steepest parts. As the kitchen was well equipped, we prepared all our meals there and felt we were in our home away from home. During the week there was almost no traffic on the road adjacent to the property which was conducive to relaxation for us wilderness-loving city dwellers. A family of woodpeckers were softly (no kidding) working on the tree behind the house-a treat for all of us to watch. Remember to bring sheets, towels, and blankets for the colder evenings/nights. The only downside was that we didn't schedule more time there...
