The Wasp House

  • 2 of 5

We stayed at Felicity Ranch July 4 - July 8, during hot weather. Within 10 minutes of arriving my son-in-law was stung on the arm by a wasp. The owners provided 2 cans of wasp spray, but the porch is infested with them and the can did nothing to curtail the problem so we could not enjoy the porch at all. The wasps even built nests between the screen and front doors even though we were using the front door frequently.

The master bedroom with a king bed doesn't have a window AC unit, so it was too hot to sleep even with all of the doors open and standing fans in both doorways. Since the queen bed was already taken, my husband and I had to use the double bed in the game room, which has a very springy mattress. OK for kids, not good for adults. And the double bed in the washer / dryer room doesn't have any center support so when my adult son slept in it he felt like the bed was folding in half.

The living room does not have a window AC either and since we couldn't open the doors or windows for a breeze because of the wasps, it was very hot with only the standing fan and ceiling fan blowing.

The main bathroom shower doesn't work (we knew in advance from the pictures), so everyone used the 2nd shower. That would have been fine, but the floor pan is cracked so the water is draining down below making the shower floor spongy. The floor boards underneath are probably rotten.

When I pulled towels out of the main bathroom cupboard I shook them out in the tub because they were full of dead bugs and mouse droppings. I had to wash them before use. And speaking of bugs, the living room end tables had dead bugs on them, the coffee cupboard in the kitchen and the 2nd bathroom were full of ants. I know this is the country, but I expected a thorough cleaning before we arrived.

On the good side, the sheets were high quality and white so we could see they were clean. This was one of the few properties that allowed us to bring our dogs, which was nice. And every provision you could think of was available, although you have to wash it all before use.

The house is smaller than shown in the photos, but it had enough space for 7 adults.

For those wondering like I was, the grocery store is approx. 12 miles away, the fishing pond is not a swimming hole, and none of us had cell service even with 3 different carriers.

If this home was cleaned, had a couple more AC units, and the wasp problem addressed it would be a nice getaway. As it is now, I do not recommend.

Peaceful and serene

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four really enjoyed our stay at Felicity Ranch. The house was rustic but still comfortable, and there was plenty of room for us to spread out. Our two- and four-year-old boys especially loved the playroom and roaming around outside. We encountered a lot of wasps on the porch which kept us from fully enjoying sitting outside, but that was the only downside of our stay. It was a great time for our family to unplug and relax.

Quiet, relaxing home in the country of Arkansas

  • 4 of 5

The stay was nice. We didn’t really research what all we were close to before reserving, but I’m glad we landed where we did. Everything was there that we needed for our extended weekend stay. We had issues the first day cause of the amount of wasps around the porch. We were blessed with cooler weather and rain which helped keep them at bay the rest of our stay. There were tiny kitchen ants all over the counter if you weren’t careful about putting food up. Beds were comfortable. Parker visited with us the first night and shared a story about the white cows in the area and some history on the farmhouse. He let us know about White Rock Mt. which we hiked and were blessed with some of most rewarding sights. We also trailed off to Devils Den and hiked around in there. We didn’t know the caves were closed though which was kind of a bummer. We would definitely recommend this place for others. It’s defnitely country living with all the little critters you find running around. We were lucky enough to have our dogs stay with us as well and they enjoyed the new smells and the large yard to play in.

We can’t wait to return next summer!

  • 5 of 5

The owners, Parker and Faye, met us at arrival and were very accommodating. Our stay at Felicity Ranch consisted of 6 days and there was never a dull moment and enjoyed getting away from the “noise” of the city. We visited multiple state parks/lakes but on the days we didn’t want to drive out, our time was spent fishing at Lake Felicity, exploring, star gazing or just sitting by the fire pit watching fireflies! Even our border collie and cattle dog had fun roaming and even got to meet Fagan, Pink, and El. Overall our time was enjoyable and we can’t wait to return.

Nice country getaway.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the country setting of this old farm house. There are cattle in the field and while we were there they had their little baby calves. In the distance you could see the farm pond where we spent one day fishing and did catch several fish. The house does not have central air so you will have to keep the bedroom doors open to keep the air circulating throughout the house. The house is very cute but needs a bit of modernizing and upkeep. But we enjoyed the country setting.

Great Stay if your looking for a down home country experience

  • 4 of 5

This is a great place if your looking for a no frills down home country experience.

Run around the farm, fish the pond, watch the wildlife, swat some bugs, rock climbing and cave crawling fun. It is rural old fashioned farm living with some modern day amenities.

We would recommend it to anybody that wanted to get away and enjoy "the Farm Life" for awhile. The owners are very friendly and helpful people.

We plan a return visit.
