"A non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. Clean water means health, income and education - especially for women and kids.
Health and Sanitation:
Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren't strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses.
90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are in children under five years old. The WHO reports that over 3.6% of the global disease burden can be prevented simply by improving water supply, sanitation, and hygiene.
Women and Children:
In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year walking for water. Women and children usually bear the burden of water collection, walking miles to the nearest source, which is unprotected and likely contaminated.
Time spent walking and resulting diseases keep them from school, work and taking care of their families. Along their long walk, they're subjected to a greater risk of harassment and sexual assault. With safe water nearby, women are free to pursue new opportunities and improve their families’ lives."
~WESTERN CAROLINA RESCUE MINISTRIES (local)
"Our mission is to provide Rescue, Recovery and Restoration in Jesus’ Name. Each of the three components of our Ministry - Rescue, Recovery and Restoration - is about meeting people in crisis where they are, caring for them with dignity and restoring them to healthy, productive lives.
To really understand what we do, though, you must also understand why we serve. Our belief is that God has so much more for the men, women and children of Western North Carolina struggling with poverty, homelessness and addiction.
We are called to help bring stability to the chaos of these wounded lives and help them discover the plans and potential that God has placed in them.
Whether serving hundreds of meals each day, providing thousands of beds each year, offering a free residential addiction program, or equipping the working poor with life skills and job training, we are committed to reflecting the love of Jesus in a way that changes lives and transforms our community."
~DR. HAWA ABDI FOUNDATION (Somalia)

I'm a proud, single Mama of 2, that I have raised in the country! My youth & I love the earth, gardening, hiking, rivers, oceans, and music! We also make most of our products. (laundry detergent, soap, etc!) We love adventuring/traveling as well, and this is one of our inspirations to start our vacation rental/retreat :) ...
Property Manager/Owner purchased this house in 2010
Horseshoe Haven was a beautiful and peaceful place to get away and relax! We were warmly welcomed by Laurie and Destiny and told to make our self at home! The warm, welcoming (and relaxing front porch) was so nice! We enjoying sitting out there in the morning with our coffee and the sweet visitor we had was so loving (Lauries sweet doggie)! Also, we loved the home itself!! It was filled with lovely plants, books, information, and even a deep tissue massage table that we all regret that we didn't use!! Laurie was so generous with the amenities! There was wonderful lavender soaps and shampoos in both showers. The beds were quite comfortable and everything was so clean! She left a welcome/thank you card for us telling us to help our self to the local brew and wine that was in the fridge, fresh fruit on the counter, and fresh ground coffee in the cupboard! Also, there was a lovely vegetable herb garden that she also said to help ourselves with! I enjoyed strolling through the garden, and a large deck out back overlooking the garden was nice to just sit and watch nature at its best! I watched a bunny rabbit meander its way into her garden and a little frog greeted us each evening as we came home! We were in Asheville to plan my daughters wedding in September, with my daughter, her fiancé, and his parents and we absolutely loved our stay at Horseshoe Haven!! I would highly recommend it to anyone! Thank you so much!
The Moore Family of Louisville, Ky.
Laurie is an excellent landlord and her home is a great spot to spread out, whether you have a large-ish group, or, (like us) you are traveling with two teenagers who are ready for their own space after full days adventuring in the outdoors. The house is organized to the hilt with great additions such as a Spin bike, for those who need their daily aerobic exercise fix, or an outdoor basketball hoop. There is a visitor area in the house with all kinds of handy information about the region if you are looking for tips and guidance. Very generous and kind.
Two things that any renter should know that we did not before arriving: Laurie lives on site in a small (converted garage?) cottage attached to the house. She and her family are great. However when we arrived late at night in the dark, we were confused when we saw another car there etc. Secondly, there is no washer/dryer available on site. Given we were coming from 4 days of hiking and kayaking in the woods, we had a pile of dirty laundry which we ended up doing in the near bye town. Again, not a big deal, but good to plan for.
We stayed here for a week in June and it was just perfect! The house is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need! Each room was beautifully decorated and the house had such a relaxing vibe.
The kitchen has everything you could imagine and the linens are included as well. The places was super clean, too. We also loved how she provided all natural cleaning products as well as shampoo, conditioner, and body wash!
There are so many lovely lounging areas inside and outside the house. In fact the entire place was so much bigger than we imagined. There are little notes everywhere to help you find what you’re looking for (be it a light switch or the coffee!).
Laurie was fantastic. She kept to herself but was always available if we had a question. Such a lovely woman and such a perfect home! I know there are not a lot of reviews on this property, but you will NOT regret booking this home. The pictures show you how gorgeous it is and I assure you, it is! We will definitely be back!
Our family spent four nights at Horseshoe Haven. We found it very inviting, clean, and well stocked with the essentials. Bedrooms were comfortable and roomy enough for a pack n play for our 6 month old grandson and a single mattress for his 2 year old brother. We ordered pizza for a pick up from West First "Wood Fired". Glad we called ahead because it was very busy. Delicious! Sierra Nevada Brewery was very close and we enjoyed some great beer and some sandbox time for the 2 year old. Badminton was fun for all and the fire pit was a hit for our guitar players. Great place for some family time for us! Thanks Laurie and Destiny.
Everything was perfect, we enjoyed our Christmas Vacations on this property and we hope to come back soon....
From the moment we arrived at Horseshoe Haven we felt welcomed and comfortable. The owners had left us notes and instructions on everything around the house that we would need to know. There were brochures and lots of information on local restaurants, hikes and general things to do in and around the area. The house had a warm friendly feel that made us all comfortable as if we were just visiting a friends house. The beds were comfortable and we had plenty of room for the six of us to sleep well. We chose this house because we wanted to hike around the Pisgah National Forest and visit the town of Hendersonville, NC and we could not have picked a better spot as it was in a quaint small town with lots of charm and appeal. Overall we had a great stay and my kids and I just loved the property! I would definitely come back here again.
