Overview

About the property

Cottage, w3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Whether you love sunning and swimming at the beach or fishing and boating on the bay you'll find the best of both worlds in Cape San Blas. The beach has been voted number one beach in America numerous times and St. Joseph's Bay is know to be one of the top fishing destinations as well. Our house, Sundance Cottage, happens to be right in the middle of both.

Nestled in the sand dunes of Cape San Blas, it is about 250 yards to the deeded accesses of both the beach and the bay. Sunbathers will enjoy the outdoor shower and bathroom after a day on the beach and fishermen will find the fish cleaning station a handy addition after a successful day of fishing. With ample parking underneath the house there is plenty of room to bring your boat or waverunners which can be launched at St. Joseph's State Park, just 2/10 of a mile from the house.

With three bedrooms and three baths (one is outside but the shower and toilet are enclosed), the house will comfortably sleep six people. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, cable TV, private bath, and French doors which lead onto the back deck that overlooks the dunes. There are no other homes behind ours so it is very private on the back deck. The other two bedrooms each have queen-size beds and share the full bath conveniently located in the hall. One of the queen bedrooms has cable TV as well.

Everyone will enjoy watching the 36' TV in the large, comfortable sofas and chairs. You may choose from our selection of movies or bring your favorite VHS tapes, DVD's and CD's to enjoy the entertainment center complete with cable TV, VCR, DVD, and CD player. Bring you laptop and get online with our broadband, wireless, high speed internet connection.

Since Cape San Blas is not known for restaurants and night life we keep the kitchen well stocked with plenty of cookware and utensils and the pantry stocked with spices and staples so you'll be able to cook your fresh catch of the day on the large stainless steel grill on the deck. There is also plenty of deck furniture for outdoor dining as well.

So if you're looking for a place that's somewhat off the beaten path you have found it here. Uncrowded beaches, endless shelling, fantastic fishing, or just boating around the bay are just a few of the things to do. Rent a bike and ride for miles, rent a kayak and ride the waves, or just enjoy the beautiful, serene enviornment with your friends and family. Cape San Blas is not just the 'forgotten coast'...it is also an undiscovered Paradise.

About Karen Jones

My husband and I share ownership of this home with his brother and wife. We all own and run a manufacturing business in Northeast Alabama including scaffold manufacturing as well as attachments for skid steers and excavators. In addition to using the home ourselves we allow our employees to vacation there and sometimes entertain customers there.

Karen Jones purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Karen Jones chose North West Florida

We first visited the area several years ago and absolutely fell in love with it. We've always vacationed in the panhandle...mostly Destin and it reminds us of what Destin used to be like when we were kids. We like the laid back atmosphere, uncrowded beaches, excellent fishing and peace and quiet.

What makes this cottage unique

Our home is only 2/10 of a mile from the entrance to St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park so if you bring a boat you are very close to the boat launch there. Additionally we have an excellent deeded beach access with only private homes there so the beach is never crowded. Our deeded bay access is great for fishing the grass flats for speckled trout and redfish as well as launching a kayak or canoe. Our neighborhood, Peninsula Estates, is very peaceful and quiet so most times you can still hear the surf from our outside decks.

Owner's Response: This is a review that I feel is very helpful to my guests and to the point! Everyone looking for a beach vacation is looking for all these things in a rental especially if it's not a gulf front property. This says a lot about the location and access to the beach and those are the questions I get the most. Even though it is not right on the beach now my future guests know from a previous guest that our deeded beach access is quiet and easily accessible!

Owner's Response: I'm glad to hear this guest enjoyed the natural beauty of the area from our decks. It's unbelievably quiet and peaceful in this neighborhood and not uncommon to wake up to a couple of deer in the backyard. Yet the beach and the bay are just steps away! We also have an "outdoor" bath under the house complete with an open air bathroom with shower and toilet. The walls are built so that the bathroom is private but still allows air to flow through so its' perfect for rinsing off sand from the beach.

older couple

When we arrived there was no TV signal in any of the three bedrooms. The owner said Mediacom would make repairs. That didn't happen during our to week stay. The gas grill was very old, rusted and dirty. At departure I left a down filled jacket in one of the closets. The owner agreed to have an employee mail it 200 miles to our next destination. When it didn't arrive after a week I learned the employee failed to use a return address, didn't add insurance and destroyed the receipt. The owner would not accept responsibility. My $100 Browning jacket never arrived.

Owner's Response: Our house has 3 TV's...one in the living room, one in the master bedroom and one in another bedroom. All TVs had been working fine as far as we knew until he contacted us telling us the 2 bedroom TVs wouldn't turn on. After lengthy discussions with Mediacom it was determined by Mediacom to be a box issue due to some recent updates they had made and the TVs were no longer compatible with the boxes. The main TV in the living room worked fine the entire time he was there but in order to restore TV service to the other TVs would require new TVs that would be compatible with the new boxes which we couldn't do during his stay. The day of his scheduled departure I received a call from my housekeeper saying she arrived an hour after check out time and they were still there. I called and he mistakenly thought they were supposed to leave the next day and that he couldn't check in to his place on the next leg of his trip until the following day. Since I didn't have guests arriving that day I offered him a free night's stay which is about a $150 value. This required my housekeeper to leave and have to drive back out there the next day (about a 25 minute drive) to clean when they left. A couple of days later he called and told me he left his jacket so my housekeeper again drove out to get the jacket and took it to the post office to mail. When he didn't receive the jacket he wanted me to pay him $100 for it or he was going to submit a bad review on the property which is what he did. We've been successfully renting our home since 2004 on the VRBO website and have never had one negative review until now.

Beautiful location, easy access to bay and beach. Recommendations, house could have been a bit cleaner. Living room dusty, sandy, and grill was left dirty.

Great vacation getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This is a great house with plenty of space in a beautiful location. Our family really enjoyed the house, the easy access to both the bay and the ocean, and the close proximity to St. Joseph State Park. The house is spacious, well-appointed, and has everything you need or would want. This really is a beautiful and unspoiled part of Florida, and this house is perfect for a family, couple, or some friends who are interested in exploring this area. We especially enjoyed St. Joseph State Park, the entrance to which is only about a quarter mile away from the house. The park includes some great trails for hiking along both the gulf and bay sides of the Cape and is really spectacular. The house is a great value and we really enjoyed our stay there. We would love to come back for another visit sometime, and maybe do a little fishing and kayaking in the bay.

Owner's Response: It's truly a rewarding feeling knowing that our Cottage could play a part in this family's first gulf coast experience! Cape San Blas is definitely a one of a kind area and even though it's small in size the unspoiled natural beauty of the area offers so many choices of activities that can be enjoyed by the entire family. Sundance Cottage is in a prime location to enjoy the beach and the bay as well as taking advantage of St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park which is unique in so many ways! If you've never visited the area before you should...you definitely won't be disappointed

A very happy, satisfied renter

  • 5 of 5

Four adults stayed in this house four 6 nights. Myself, my spouse, my elderly mother and my sister. We all were so comfortable every single moment. We three woman were astonished how a big house could be so immaculately clean in every spot in the house. The decor was great. Supplies such as linen, towels, seasoning, cookware, tupperware and much more was bountiful! This house is wonderful! I will definitely book this house again. I spoke to the owners before our trip and the day we were checking out, they were very easy to contact and very kind. we are all still amazed how clean and comfy this house is. We were sad to check out. The beach was dreamy. The sunsets every night were gorgeous! Having our coffee on the deck in the am was awesome. Just wonderful!

Owner's Response: It's so nice of Coleen to take the time to let me know how much she and her family enjoyed their stay. Not only does it benefit me in knowing that we're stocking the house with the items that our guests need and enjoy but also that our cleaning staff is handling things well on their end too making sure everything is clean and welcoming to our guests. Additionally it's a tremendous help for you, the potential renter, when you are looking for a place to spend your vacation. It certainly takes a lot of the guesswork out of your decision and shows you as well how helpful the reviews can be to the process of locating a good fit for your family.

St. Joseph's Peninsula State Park is just around the corner from our house. They have a boat ramp and dock for day docking plus large area on the bay for fishing from the land or wading the grass beds. If you love raw oysters you must visit the Indian Pass Raw Bar which is about a 10 minute drive from the house. Another good place for oysters and seafood is Triple Tails which you pass on the way to our house.
