Overview

About the property

Sleeps 8, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom with deck, BBQ, jacuzzi tub, ample dining space

This magical retreat with exceptional "cabin in the woods" interiors is nestled on 2.5 acres. It is an architectural saltbox in the heart of the Adirondacks only 7 miles from Whiteface Mountain and 15 miles from Lake Placid. Within walking distance are hiking and cross country ski trails. It is truly a retreat for the body and soul!

Surrounded by your own private forest, this warmly furnished home, with Adirondack touches throughout, has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a great living area, ample dining table space for 8, and large island kitchen will make your family and friends feel welcome. Flick on the gas fireplace and enjoy your own music mixes through the built-in surround sound system. Take the chill off after a day of activities in the steam shower or the jacuzzi for two. The chef's kitchen has all the tools needed to make any meal just like home. When the weather is right, enjoy the fire pit area or just sit out on the deck.

This home has two queen size beds, two daybeds with trundles and a pull out sofa. There are multiple TVs with satellite and DVD players, Wi-Fi, fully equipped kitchen including convection oven and wine cooler, BBQ grill, iron and board, linens, towels and washer/dryer.

Located one mile from the house is Lake Eaton, where you can canoe or hike around the lake, perfect for children. The community of Au Sable Acres has a tennis court and slightly more ambitious trails; a trail map is in the kitchen. The house is minutes from Au Sable Forks where there is a movie theater, great pizza place, wine store and supermarket. In Wilmington, about a 10 minute car ride, there is a river front beach with volleyball court and picnic area. You can also enjoy the summer concert series in the heart of Jay just down the road from the house. A bit further is the wonder of Lake Placid, about a 20 minute car ride, where you can browse the outlet stores and artisan shops and enjoy lake view delights and dining on Main Street. For a nice day trip, downtown Montreal is about a two hour car ride away.

Other nearby activities in the winter are world class skiing at Whiteface Mountain, bobsled and tubing at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Center, or ice skating and dog sleigh riding in Lake Placid. In the summer, hiking trails abound as well as fishing holes, golf courses, and boating in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, or Lake Champlain.

What makes this house unique

I changed the design of this house from the original plans and chose the placement on the property. With the driveway somewhat winding and completely surrounded by leaves three quarters of the year, one is assured of total privacy and as much sun streaming into the house as possible. Kitchen is laid out with a chef's mentality and with the dining room table near the kitchen island, dinner parties are a breeze. Finally, with a sound system piping in music through the lower level of the house, entertaining has never been so fun!

Beautiful Spacious Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We traveled to the Lake Placid area in a group of 6 and stayed in this home. We were blown away by the beauty of the home and the surrounding area. The home was stocked with everything we needed including towels and linens. The owner, Carlos, was very responsive to all of our requests and made the process very simple.

Thank you for letting us stay in your home for a very enjoyable weekend.

Beautiful house, great location, wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful long February (with Spring like conditions) weekend at this cabin. It's on a nice quiet road and was very private and peaceful. The steam shower and jacuzzi tub were fabulous. The kitchen/dining area was open and comfortable for cooking and socializing. We enjoyed games and puzzles at the large dining table, and the window seat was a family favorite. When we had a rainy day the kids enjoyed lounging and watching TV. We had 8 people in our group - 2 families of 4. All 4 kids (ages 8-12) slept comfortably in the twin bedroom. It was very comfortable for the 8 of us sharing space. My only critique would be that the bedrooms don't have curtains. The downstairs room faces the yard and street... I'm sure no one could see in, but a little more privacy might be nice. And we are a family of sleeping in darkness at home - so when the sun came up, we woke up. Some curtains might be nice for those wishing to sleep in or enjoy an afternoon nap. The yard and surrounding woods were nice too, with 5 deer hanging out right outside the doors. We were hoping for a lot of snow to enjoy the great places to snowshoeing, hike, skate and snowman build nearby - but several warm days followed by rainy days kept us inside and shopping instead. Still a great weekend, and maybe next year we'll get the winter experience we were hoping for.

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a kind note. I'm looking for curtains at the moment, most definitely for the downstairs bedroom, to be hung by mid April. We are constantly looking to improve and will consider the other rooms as well. Thank you and we look forward to hosting your family and friends again. Best Regards

Great Gathering Place

  • 5 of 5

We rented this property for my husband's 60th birthday weekend and stayed there with 2 of our adult children, their partners, and our toddler grandson. Spacious and clean, this place was a great place to hang out and enjoy our time together whether we were drinking coffee in the morning and playing with our grandson, baking a birthday cake, hosting other family for breakfast, or watching football. Also a short drive to Lake Placid for those who wanted to shop, site see, and eat out and lots of options for hikes and outdoor activity for those who wanted to commune with nature.

The house was well stocked with linens and towels, dishes, cooking utensils, nice appliances, dvds and games. Nice surround sound. Very comfortable beds. We didn't want for anything.

Emily was very easy to work with and very responsive to questions. I highly recommend renting from her!

Light sleepers may find this place to be a bit noisy as there are heat vents at the top of the walls in the great room that are also in each upstairs bedroom, so that if you are trying to sleep and there is activity going on downstairs...you will hear every sound.

We would definately rent again. A very comfortable, pleasant stay!

Wonderful Holiday Vacation.

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to spend Christmas. My boys and husband went to white face mountain three of the days including Christmas. It snowed most days just enough to keep it magical. The property was perfect on 2 plus acres. Loved, loved, loved the kitchen since I love to cook. It had every amenity. We enjoyed the steam shower and Jacuzzi tub. It was great to be able to bring our 13 yo dog with us as well. I would love to go back this summer.. The owner was great about answering my concerns. The only thing I might change is some sort of privacy curtain on the downstairs bedroom.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments Julia! I'm so glad you liked the kitchen- we think it's pretty fantastic too! While we feel the house is sufficiently recessed off the street for privacy, I can see this issue arising during the warmer months and perhaps with multiple friends staying together. We'll certainly address it. Hope to welcome you back this summer! Whiteface Mountain has a lot to offer and there are beautiful trails nearby!
