Overview

About the property

Sleeps 8, 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom with deck, BBQ, jacuzzi tub, ample dining space

This magical retreat with exceptional "cabin in the woods" interiors is nestled on 2.5 acres. It is an architectural saltbox in the heart of the Adirondacks only 7 miles from Whiteface Mountain and 15 miles from Lake Placid. Within walking distance are hiking and cross country ski trails. It is truly a retreat for the body and soul!

Surrounded by your own private forest, this warmly furnished home, with Adirondack touches throughout, has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a great living area, ample dining table space for 8, and large island kitchen will make your family and friends feel welcome. Flick on the gas fireplace and enjoy your own music mixes through the built-in surround sound system. Take the chill off after a day of activities in the steam shower or the jacuzzi for two. The chef's kitchen has all the tools needed to make any meal just like home. When the weather is right, enjoy the fire pit area or just sit out on the deck.

This home has two queen size beds, two daybeds with trundles and a pull out sofa. There are multiple TVs with satellite and DVD players, Wi-Fi, fully equipped kitchen including convection oven and wine cooler, BBQ grill, iron and board, linens, towels and washer/dryer.

Located one mile from the house is Lake Eaton, where you can canoe or hike around the lake, perfect for children. The community of Au Sable Acres has a tennis court and slightly more ambitious trails; a trail map is in the kitchen. The house is minutes from Au Sable Forks where there is a movie theater, great pizza place, wine store and supermarket. In Wilmington, about a 10 minute car ride, there is a river front beach with volleyball court and picnic area. You can also enjoy the summer concert series in the heart of Jay just down the road from the house. A bit further is the wonder of Lake Placid, about a 20 minute car ride, where you can browse the outlet stores and artisan shops and enjoy lake view delights and dining on Main Street. For a nice day trip, downtown Montreal is about a two hour car ride away.

Other nearby activities in the winter are world class skiing at Whiteface Mountain, bobsled and tubing at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Olympic Center, or ice skating and dog sleigh riding in Lake Placid. In the summer, hiking trails abound as well as fishing holes, golf courses, and boating in Lake Placid, Saranac Lake, or Lake Champlain.

What makes this house unique

I changed the design of this house from the original plans and chose the placement on the property. With the driveway somewhat winding and completely surrounded by leaves three quarters of the year, one is assured of total privacy and as much sun streaming into the house as possible. Kitchen is laid out with a chef's mentality and with the dining room table near the kitchen island, dinner parties are a breeze. Finally, with a sound system piping in music through the lower level of the house, entertaining has never been so fun!

Beautiful Spacious Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We traveled to the Lake Placid area in a group of 6 and stayed in this home. We were blown away by the beauty of the home and the surrounding area. The home was stocked with everything we needed including towels and linens. The owner, Carlos, was very responsive to all of our requests and made the process very simple.

Thank you for letting us stay in your home for a very enjoyable weekend.

Amazing stay!!!

  • 5 of 5

We have often used VRBO for our travels throughout the US since moving to the US from South Africa 6 years ago. We have always been very pleased with all the accomodations we have booked, but this one, by far, is the absolute BEST! The interior is so well thought through, and so neat and clean with every thing you might possibly need. We were 6 adults, and the rooms and bathrooms were more than adequate for our needs. We sat around the firepit for hours, and played card games around the big dining room table. The best times for a family! We drove up Whitefaced Mountain on day 1, which is a must. The views are incredible! And the other day we hiked. Our only regrets are that we couldn`t stay more than the 3 nights we had stayed, and that Virginia Beach is really too far away to go there soon again - because we would LOVE to go there again! Carlos is also a wonderful host - his responses are immediate, and the one small problem we had at arrival was taken care of without any hesitation immediately. Thanks!! It was a great getaway!

We all loved this beautiful cabin in the woods. Perfectly private and roomy. My 2 toddlers had a blast too. Would love if it had a hot tub hee hee. Thanks again.

Beautiful cabin, great setting, well furnished. A must see.

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was beautifully furnished with all of the essentials that you would require. All you need to bring is your favorite food and beverage, even though the restaurants in the area will have you going out more often than not. We were a family of 6 and there was plenty of room and storage. The facilities are in top notch shape. The only deduction is due to the fact that the bedrooms were stuffy at night in the summer heat. You could leave the patio/balcony doors open with the screens in place, but if it rained or you were on the first floor (with easy access by wandering critters) this wasn't a feasible option. I'd recommend bringing a box fan with you to help circulate air.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review and the critique. This is the first time Ive received this complaint or I would have corrected it. The comfort and enjoyment of the house by our guests is our prime objective. Before responding, l've ordered floor fans for the other bedrooms. We will be installing ceiling fans as soon as possible. Just a footnote, one can leave the living room fans on during the night and air will circulate in through the vents for the upstairs bedrooms. Otherwise, we are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you will reconsider us for any other future trips to the Adirondacks. Best Regards, Carlos Valverde
