Beautiful Cozy 2-Bedroom Cottage

This diamond in the rough is a cozy 2 bedroom cottage perfect for a weekend getaway, family vacation or a romantic retreat. This great escape will provide you with a little piece of paradise while giving you the feeling and comfort of home! And because pets are family too, we welcome them; but must be cleared with the owners first. No cats please, as the owners are allergic.

This adorable cottage is nestled on a quiet residential street behind the main home. Water, pier and boat slip access are only steps away by walking down the lighted path on the side of the main home where you can enjoy breathtaking sunsets, fishing, swimming, canoeing, boating; and in winter snowmobiling, ice fishing and skiing at Wilmot Mountain Ski Resort. A boat slip to dock your boat and 3-person canoe are available at no extra charge your use. The cottage is fully air conditioned and heated with ceiling fans in bedrooms, kitchen and living room; making it perfect for year-round suitability.

When staying in this home away from home, you can start off your morning soaking up a little fresh air out on the front porch enjoying a cup of freshly brewed Starbucks Verona coffee. After an eventful day exploring all the Chain of Lakes has to offer, both bedrooms have queen size beds with 600 thread count linens and overstuffed pillows for your sleeping comfort. For those less than stellar weather days, cozy on the oversized leather sofa or kick up your feet on the reclining chair in the living room where you can also partake in some viewing enjoyment on the 40” LED television equipped with Direct TV & HBO, or enjoy your favorite DVD by popping it into the DVD player. Feeling a little competitive? Stroll on over the utility closet where you can find several different board and card games to partake in. Secured WiFi internet access is also available. A little hungry? Quickly whip something up on the gas stove in the kitchen that is furnished with all appliances, utensils and dinnerware for your convenience, including an expandable kitchen island. Want make it a BBQ instead? Head outside to your own private patio to access the gas grill.

About Rosemarie Nilson

A love of boating, fishing and the outdoors has been embedded in us from our youth. Thus, when we started to think of places to retire - we opted to live where we had many happy memories, where people are friendly and life is exciting and fun -- the Chain O’Lakes. We feel truly blessed to be able to live in a vibrant and historic community and most importantly, to be close to those that matter most – our family and friends.

Rosemarie Nilson purchased this cottage in 2014

Enjoyable Stay

  • 5 of 5

My two sisters and myself rented this great cottage for 4 nights. We had a great relaxing enjoyable time! The cottage is very comfortable and accommodated the three of us very nicely. It's very spacious for the size of it. Jim and Rosemarie were great hosts welcoming us with a bottle of champagne and a nice card. They also left a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers on the dining room table which was a great added touch. We recommend this vacation rental highly and look forward to future visits ourselves!

Well maintained cottage with lake access, relaxing time away

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is well maintained, clean, comfortable. The bedrooms are small but that wasn't an issue for my husband and me. We had our dog with us & had a wonderful, relaxing time away from the city. It is close to town (diving) which was so easy to get around for things we like groceries. Small grass yard to relax in by the water. Great recommendations from Rose on where to eat, things to do & boat rentals. Would definitely recommend!

Cozy Lakefront Cottage, Great Local Food, Tons of Lake Activities

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Rose and Jim's cottage for a week with 5 people. The cottage was very well furnished and maintained. We did not plan to spend very much time in the cottage, but ended up getting a rainy day to stay inside, play games, and watch movies.

Staying at Fox Lake was our first experience as a traveler on VRBO and we are very satisfied. Jim and Rose were both very friendly and knowledgeable of the area. They even provided us with listings of local events which helped us fill in some downtime on our vacation.

The sunrise was definitely worth waking up for 3 hours early. From the cottage, you are at the lake in about 30 seconds with no roads to cross. We ended up renting Waverunners from Jet Funn and did not have any issues despite the reviews. We did not end up renting a boat due to the rainy day, but Barnacle Bob's had great day rental prices for ~50 HP pontoon boats from 6AM to 6PM. However, if we were going to tube, waterski, or wakeboard we probably would have rented a higher powered deck boat from Spring Lake Marina. Just be sure to call ahead/go online and reserve watercraft from the above locations, especially on the weekends.

We rode our bicycles to the Chain O Lakes park which is just a few miles east. There are a few challenging hills if you plan to bike the entire way there, but a majority of the route is on a dedicated asphalt bike/pedestrian path. The park has limestone paths roughly wide enough for 4 people to walk abreast one way, and they were largely free of debris.

We visited Morreti's and The Rusty Nail while here which we loved and would definitely return to. However I might pass on El Puerto if we visit again. Maybe the dock access to the restaurant adds to their popularity, or maybe its the deck seating to look out over the lake, but I wasn't really impressed with the food. Maybe it was just a bad day, but the recipes seemed bland compared to other Mexican restaurants I'd been to. At any rate, the food was edible I'm not severely disappointed that we went there, it's just that the most memorable thing was watching carp eat corn tortilla chips.

Owner's Response: Hi Eric, Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are so happy you, your family and friends enjoyed your stay. Rusty Nail is one of our favorite restaurants & their Friday night fish fry has been rated the best in Lake County. If you have a family friendly photo to share of your stay, please send to us as we would love to frame it on our 'guest wall'. Glad your visit was memorable and hope it is the first of many to come.

Cute, clean, comfy cottage

  • 5 of 5

The place was up to date, included a lot of amenities, and was very welcoming. The renters were flexible and provided several nice suggestions. The place is 30-45 second walk from the lake, where the owners welcomed us to hang by the lake. I can't think of anything else I could have asked for: I highly recommend!! Thanks for Having us.
