Description

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday cottage in Obermarchenbach - UNSER BAYERN

Part of an ensemble of historic houses, brought together in an idyllic spot.

The COTTAGE house is originally from Upper Bavaria, rebuilt in 1980, fully refurbished 2014, keeping its 1830 rural Biedermeier style intact.

GROUND FLOOR

When entering the house, a large eat-in kitchen opens up. The seating area is arranged around an original Bavarian Jogl table, which once belonged to the late folk singer Roider Jackl, and offers views into the garden from each corner. A small, central lounge covered with sheepskin forms the perfect spot to sit back, relax and let any action pass by. Through the backdoor a west-facing terrace can be reached, only a few steps away from the SPA house, which can be booked by arrangement. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher. An English style bathroom with a freestanding iron bathtub and separate shower completes this level.

FIRST FLOOR

Beautiful views into the garden can be enjoyed from the sofa area and the small antique office table in the central living room. Open ceilings create space and little explorers can hide in the attic. If necessary, the sofa can be expanded as additional bed for two persons (140cm width). In the master bedroom guests will find an elegant double bed, surrounded by wood walls and an antique print of the famous Landshut Hochtzeit. The second bedroom is dominated by open plan windows on the east and south side, allowing guests to enjoy nature and the surroundings in full. With a French touch, two separate single beds and a small seating area complete this exquisite room.

FULLY EQUIPPED

• TV, Wi-Fi, CD player, iPhone docking station and hairdryer

• Bathrobes, towels and toiletries are provided

• Garden furniture, including sun lounger chairs, umbrellas and hammock

• Barbecue

• Outdoor games, including table tennis and a croquet set

• A selection of kids toys

OUTSIDE

Leaving the COTTAGE through the backdoor, guests will find a large, secluded south/west facing sun terrace, offering enough space for an outside seating area and sun loungers. To the north the view passes the Davos house and up to the village church.

SPA

The SPA is a place of tranquillity, built around the original silo shed. Enjoy a session in the Finnish sauna that offers beautiful garden views. Jump into the hot tub made of cedar wood or chill in the lounge area, inspired by the owner’s years in the Arabic world.

EXCLUSIVE

If the COTTAGE house is booked, none of the other houses on the ensemble will be rented out - garden and the whole ensemble are available solely for COTTAGE guests.

The garden is fenced, with electric entrance. For the entire stay, guest will have all required keys and access codes.

About Manuela Szewald

We have lived in many parts of the world, with our family settled today in London. Our routes in Bavaria brought us to this ensemble of historic Bavarian houses which we have refurbished with passion.

For our two kids and us, there is no better holiday then this place of Bavarian country life, which we love sharing with like-minded people.

Manuela Szewald purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Manuela Szewald chose Freising

This place is a piece of history extensively refurbished by the owners who have lived in many parts of the world, bringing together different continents and cultures.

What makes this cottage unique

When the gate closes the daily routine is left behind and guests will enjoy its seclusion to the full. Stroll through the large garden to find your place to pause, chill out and take a deep breath. Feel at home, surrounded by history.

The house is ideally located to explore the best of Bavaria.

Truly REMARKABLE & UNIQUE treasure. GREAT Hosts!

  • 5 of 5

I was simply ASTOUNDED that such a UNIQUE, COZY and truly IDYLLIC country-side OASIS could exist so close to one of Europe's most vibrate and important cities (Munich). Only moments from the airport - but truly "worlds away" from everything. Located in a tiny village, nestled within the expansive and gorgeous Bavarian countryside , the beautifully restored COZY cottage is a sanctuary. I was seeking a quiet refuge to rest, refresh and refocus prior to an important business conference in the area, and spend 3 nights here prior to my meetings. Pictures are accurate, if not understated. Cottage is spotlessly clean with every comfort and amenity of a full service resort (even bathrobes). I had crossed two oceans and a continent on this journey and was exhausted. The hosts had graciously provided some "starter" provisions in the fridge and pantry (bread, milk, butter, fruit from the garden, etc). The SPA area is in the equally as wonderfully restored cottage/building next store (about 15 steps). Sauna, hot tub, sauna showers, lounge area with view of country side - COMPLETE PRIVACY. Manuela (the owner/host) and her husband, along with the two very well behaved and polite children, currently live in the main house also on the grounds, but gave me complete privacy. There is paved parking within the grounds, with a secure (electric) gate. Neighborhood is almost SILENT except for the sounds of a country breeze, and birds in the morning. Inside the Cottage it had very steep stairs to the first level above ground (bedrooms), which could be a problem for elderly or those with limited mobility. I truly felt as if I was living, and "breathing" in history in this wonderfully restored farm cottage. A ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity, I suspect for most -- but I sincerely hope to return at my earliest convenience! This place is truly a HISTORIC TREASURE! My hope would be that future visitors would respect the historic significance of every element of the Cottage, and treat it with the respect and care that it truly deserves.

Magnificent Bavarian Easter holidays

  • 5 of 5

This Easter my husband and I, plus our two younger children Laura (20) and Justus (17) spent our holidays in Obermarchenbach. Arriving on Saturday afternoon we were already expected by Mrs Ziegler, who warmly welcomed and introduced us to the „Cottage“, Spa and Gardens. We had a wonderful week relaxing in the „Cottage“ and exploring the area. The forest just around the corner, Haag with its "Biergarten", Freising and its cathedral, Moosburg and Landshut were a stone throw away and wonderful places to visit.

We also travelled to Munich and the various Bavarian lakes nearby, which were very nice to visit even though the weather wasn’t always as wanted. Whilst we were able to ski at Spitzingsee, we could also have coffee in the warm sun at Schliersee, a mere 10-minute drive further north.

There are several golf courses around Obermarchenbach, and it was very easy to book a round. Since we felt very homely at the cottage, we were always happy to come back home in the evenings and enjoy the last rays of sun on the terrace, as well as cook delicious meals in the very well equipped kitchen. We had a wonderful week and were very pleased to meet Manuela and Alexander, as well as their children Louisa and Leopold. Altogether we are very excited to come back very soon!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my wife booked the cottage for 5 days. The price is high but worth every penny. The spa house is perfect. Hottub is great. Beds are also perfect. The food at Maiers at 200 meters walk is great For a sunday lunch. Great food for a good price. The cottage is next to a big forest wich is great for walking. You can see lots of deer. Also great for hunters with their wifes!! Man go hunting and the misses go in to the sauna and hottub. We will be back real soon. John Koenders from Holland

Wonderful enchanted stay

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in the cottage house was an enchanted experience of truly feeling the forest, the historical sense of the place and still in a wonderful location close to Munich. The cottage is exquisite with much thought given to every detail from toys for children, books, a fabulous bath and robes. There is a spa we enjoyed very much as well!

The hosts were lovely, and our kids were so happy to play one evening with their children, and hoped they had a chance to get to know them better (they left the next day for their own vacation).

The hosts gave us many tips for the area, we went to swim in a pond down the road from them, enjoyed visiting the near by little towns, to cook in the BBQ, and just be outside in the large yard in the woods.

This is a perfect place for families, and couples.

We for sure will come again!

Superb for Family; Romantic for couples

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cottage house gave us an intimate feel of the countryside- something that made this trip to Munich so special.

Having browsed through at least 100 hotels & reviews on TripAdvisor, a friend introduced the hideaway website to me. I then decided on a 3 day stay at this cottage (the first three nights were in town).

The owner, Manuela, is a warm and graceful host. She replied emails very promptly & did not hesitate to share travelling tips with me. When we arrived, a housekeeper greeted us and kindly explained some features of the house and the Spa. After settling in, we didn't quite wish to leave, but Manuela had made dinner reservations for us at a restaurant in Freising!

The next morning, we slept in - there are 2 bedrooms upstairs; one with 2 twin beds and another with a King size bed. Duvets are clean, soft. There is also a sofa bed at the reading corner. Each furniture of the room existed for a purpose. The overall decoration, along with the extensive lawns, exudes a sense of romance and inspires peace & serenity.

As a family, we were thrilled to learn that

1) cooking is permitted via the modern induction cooker & oven; pots/pans/utnesils are available

2) heating/ temperature control in all rooms are modern

3) wifi is free and can be accessed in all parts of the cottage bus several users/ laptops

4) spa house has a spacious lounge and shower area

Our shy son was very fond of Louisa and her brother, who kindly offered to take him when they went for a hike after dinner.

Can't be more pleased with the stay- everything was perfect, including the bathtub. There was only 1 bathroom, but we planned our shower times well. The cottage's lovely design, thoughtful furnishing & hosts' warmth more than made up for it. We were a family of 5 and my parents enjoyed the place. Definitely worth a visit if you are heading for the Bavarian Alps!
