The home is perfectly situated to allow for mornings on the front porch and evenings on the back deck. Grab your coffee in the morning and watch the sunrise from the assortment of chairs on the covered front porch. In the evening you can catch one of the beautiful sunsets from the back deck and discuss the days activities. The mountains visible from the back deck, as well as many rooms of the home, are actually part of the Appalachian Trail.

We have been in the rental business since 1995 and the vacation rental business since 2008. Our first vacation rental was on the Big Island of Hawaii, and since then we have also operated vacation rentals on the North Shore of Oahu, Springboro, Ohio, and Knoxville, Maryland.
James Swart purchased this house in 2014
The views and the relaxing lifestyle. This property has "big sky" views in every direction with sunrises from the front porch and sunsets from the back deck. We particularly enjoy the privacy while at the property, but also the convenience of being so close to Frederick, MD, and Harpers Ferry, WV.
We don't believe in hovering. We believe that most visitors know how to use a house already and do not need us hanging around to interfere during their stay. Our property managers are available if you are in need of assistance. Otherwise we intend to help you maximize your stay at the property by leaving you alone. Enjoy! :-)
We chose this property to host a family reunion/70th birthday party with relatives of all ages from around the globe. Everyone was equally impressed with the beautiful views and spacious accommodations. The owner and property manger were very responsive and accommodating to our requests and needs both before and during our stay. Located just 15 minutes from Harper's Ferry, it was easy to tie a tubing trip down the river into our vist. Five stars!
This property was amazing! We rented it during my wedding weekend as a place for my bridesmaids and family to stay. It was clean, spacious, and suited our needs perfectly. The owner was always fast to respond to emails and was very accommodating. I would happily recommend this home to anyone.
Unfortunately my overall experience was less than ideal. For starters we couldn't gain entry to the house due to the wrong access code being sent to us prior to arrival. The owner was unavailable and didn't answer his phone or respond to email inquiries in a prompt manner but the matter was finally resolved within about 2 hours. I rate this property with only two stars because of the following areas of neglect that could be easily remedied & maintained for the rental price of this property:
1. There is a visible hole in the floor of the kitchen island. Any food preparation or food left on the island resulted in a massive number of ant infestations. Recommended solution get the hole fixed and exterminate the property for insects.
2. There is a damaged/broken tile in the downstairs master bathroom soaking tub area. This poses an accident risk for people renting the property. My dad cut his arm on the tile while taking a bath and he actually bled out. Recommended solution remove the broken tile completely and/or replace it.
3. There are ZERO, none, nada bathroom floor mats in 4 of the 5 so when you and your guests get out the shower your wet feet touch the cold floor. Recommended solution buy a few bath rugs it's not going to break the bank.
4. All the bathroom shower heads are old and have a poor outflow of water. Everyone complained that they could not get a decent shower due the poor shower head function. Recommended solution purchase new shower heads you have gotten your money worth plus some already from the old ones. All of them need to be replaced. It's time for an upgrade!
5. There is only one sofa in the entire house the plus side is that it is a sleeper sofa. The downside is that the sofa & mattress is old, worn and dirty. The condition of this sofa was beyond embarrassing. Again the recommended solution is to buy a new one and replace it. For the money this rental brings in, all these fixes are reasonable & fairly easy. Implementing these recommendations would go along way to have a traveler return to rent the property again and/or refer this property to others.
Finally to end on a positive note the property was very kid and family friendly. It came equipped with toys and games for the family.
We came here for a department retreat (9 people) and had a really nice time. There was a lot of space for everyone and the home was really clean with a spectacular view. I'd highly recommend it and will likely return next year! Just 1 hour from DC, we couldn't has for anything better. James was great about allowing us to come a little early and stay a little late and answered all my questions in a timely manner. My only (tremendously minor) complaint is that all the windows didn't have curtains so one of the living rooms got quite hot and it was bright in the morning but some rooms did have curtains so I'm sure it was a temporary problem.
Our family stayed in this home the week of our son's wedding. We housed all of his groomsmen, an aunt and uncle, plus my family. There were 16 of us total and we never felt on top of each other. This was so much better than a hotel! The laundry room was large enough to leave the iron set up for all to take turns and access to a washer and dryer came in so handy. We loved sitting in the sunroom and visiting or playing games. We also brought corn hole, a frisbee and a football. There is plenty of room outside to play. All of the beds were comfortable which is a huge plus when staying for an entire week. If I had to do it over again, I would choose this lovely home!
This beautiful home is located in a buccolic setting providing the perfect venue for our annual family reunion. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for 5 couples. We also took full advantage of the communal spaces inside and outside the home- The kitchen space facilitated several chefs preparing meals in the kitchen. One of the reasons we selected this home is the proximity to Gettysburg, Antietam and Harpers Ferry. We visited these historical Civil War battlefields as they are close to Knoxville.
