About the property

Cabin On Ambajejus Lake With Beautiful Views of Mt. Katahdin

This is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin with lots of updates. Sleeps 6-7 comfortably. 1 bedroom has a full size bed, 1 bedroom has a twin bed and a bunk bed, to sleep 3. The front porch that looks out at the lake and mountains, also has a full size bed. There is a front and back deck.

Our cabin is near the end of a peninsula, and we own both sides, in which, the other side of our property has water frontage on a calm inlet where a little path and stairs lead to a dock. Great for swimming, fishing, and boat mooring. Bring your own motorized boat!

Abundant wildlife surrounds us. Bald Eagles, Loons, a variety of ducks, moose, and black bear. The sunsets off the front deck are amazing. Blueberries in late July, early August, on our property.

Amenities include hammocks, fire pit, picnic table, 2 canoes, 2 man kayak, lounge chairs, coffee maker, blender, microwave and all other kitchen necessities, T.V. for DVDs, and VCR. No cable TV. No telephone. We do get some cell phone reception. Games, puzzles, movies! No heat, but has a wood stove. Running water is pumped from the lake, full shower, toilet, sinks with running hot and cold water from lake. You must bring your own drinking water, or you can get drinking water from a mountain spring 1 mile from the cabin. Please bring your own sheets and towels. (If you find it a hardship to bring your own, i.e. traveling by plane, etc. we can provide linens & towels for a small additional fee.) Being that our water supply is drawn from the lake, it would be harsh on the environment to do excess amounts of laundry.

About Brenda & Brian Casey

My husband Brian, myself and our 2 teenagers live year round on Cape Cod in MA. We own our own business.

Yes, we leave beautiful Cape Cod to go to our beautiful cabin in Maine as much as we possibly can! It is our "Heaven on Earth"

We love outdoor adventures. We love to swim, boat, fish, hike, golf, hunt & ski. Also, my 16 yr old daughter and I own a horse. My husband is a licensed falconer.

We especially love to breathe in the fresh air of the North Woods of Maine! We can do most all outdoor things we love, in our vast playground that surrounds us, at our cabin in Maine.

Brenda & Brian Casey purchased this cabin in 2003

Why Brenda & Brian Casey chose Maine Highlands

My husband and I both love the outdoors, the mountains, the rivers, and wildlife. My husband was born on Cape Cod, and I'm from CT. We are New Englanders through and through. We live on the Cape, but ironically, neither of us our beach people!

We started vacationing at Moosehead Lake when our children were 1 and 3. We fell in love with the North Woods of Maine! The peace, tranquility, beauty, and the Wildlife.

We knew we wanted a place in this area.

My friend from high school already had a cabin on Ambajejus Lake, and while she was visiting us on Cape Cod in July 2003, she showed us lots of pictures, and we fell in love. We found and bought our camp, (as Mainers call our cabins), 2 months later.

Our 2 children, Isabelle 16, and Shane 18 have grown up in this wilderness, and still, as teenagers, can't wait for our trips to "camp"! My son will be going to the university in Bangor this fall.

What makes this cabin unique

If you're an outdoor person, this is the place to be.

Swimming is only a few paces from the door.

Boating is phenomenal, as Ambajejus Lake is one of a chain of lakes, which lends to lots of exploring. A boat ride up river has breathtaking views, and comes upon a very secluded lake of its own, and some waterfalls that are great for fly fishing.

Our property is quite unique, as we are near the end of a peninsula, and we own frontage on both sides of it. The front, which faces the mountains, and being we sometimes have 2-3 ft waves, makes the back cove perfect for keeping a boat, or just hanging out .

Fishing right off the back dock in the cove, or on the front rock.

Baxter State park is only 10 miles away, as is White water rafting. The hikes in Baxter are many, short or long, flat or steep, all are amazing.

Mountain biking galore. Our fire roads around the lake make for some great biking.

Campfires on the lake.

Blueberry and raspberry picking in July and August.

On a hot summer day, you may see 4 or 5 boats, not the hundreds you navigate around at Lake Winnapisaukee.

From the moment I booked this property, I knew I had found a special place. The Casey's have a fabulous place. My visit could never be long enough. It's proximity to Baxter, and town is PERFECT...by the time we checked out, I had gained a new friendship, and found a yearly vacation spot. Thank you Brenda and Brian for sharing your slice of heaven.

Awesome place with great view of Mt Katahdin

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect! It had an awesome view of Mt Katahdin and only a 10-15 min drive to Baxter. We enjoyed canoeing and flyfishing on the lake and listening to the loons. When it got chilly at night we used the wood stove and it did a great job of heating the cabin. One of the neighbors made sure we had water and even split some wood for us. The owner Brenda was very friendly and helpful and responded very quickly to my emails. Highly recommend this place and we hope to go back someday!

Recommend...Recommend...I would give this property and owners more than 5 Stars if I could!

  • 5 of 5

The Casey's have their own piece of paradise with this property! It is such a relaxing setting with the open lake on one side and the cove with the dock for fishing and swimming on the other. The fire pit with chairs and hammocks is a great location to sit, watch the sunset and the lake and then relax and hang out around the fire taking in the stars and eating S'mores. The cabin is very comfortable and easily feels just like home with all the right touches in each room. The kitchen is a very welcoming space, the bathroom just the right size and the enclosed porch a very comfortable place to sit and relax without the mosquitos or rain drops! The outdoor porch is just as inviting with comfy furniture and an amazing view of the lake, Mt. Katahdin and even the Northern Lights. Did I mention the convenient clothes line, the blueberry bushes and the vegetable and herb garden that Brenda let's you access? Thank you for these little added touches!

Watching the sea plane take off and return several times throughout the day was a captivating experience. The Bald Eagle that woke me at 6:30 each morning was a welcome alarm clock and my family witnessed the eagle retrieving his dinner one evening right from the lake in front of them! Oh and the fishing was great too! The neighbors were very pleasant and helpful and made you feel right at home.

With access to the Golden Road, New England Outdoor Center, Baxter State Park and Mt. Katahdin there is plenty to do in the area and not too far away back in to town are grocery stores, Tractor Supply, the Katahdin General Store and even a McDonalds and I saw a sign advertising Sky Diving for the daring!

When we travel in the northern Maine direction again, I will definitely seek out the Casey's. I have never experienced a more relaxing and calming vacation and such convenience in dealing with Brenda directly.

Thank you to the Casey family from the Ives family!!!!

The town of Millinocket is a small old lumbering town. You will pass through it 15 minutes before arriving at the cabin.

It is a small town with 2 full size grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, bars, hotels with access to gym equipment, & a hospital.

There is a general store on your left just as you leave town, The Katahdin General. Last minute gas, groceries, fishing and hunting license and equipment.

On the lake, between Ambejejus and Millinocket Lake, which is called The Dike, there is another General store, The Northwoods Trading Post, which is a 5 minute drive or 10 minutes by boat.

They also have gas and sundries. Right next store to them is fabulous fine dining, Fredericka's, at The Big Moose Inn, and for more casual dining and drink, they also offer The Loose Moose Bar & Grill.
