About Benn Batterson

I was born and raised in Coudersport. After meeting my wife and graduating from Penn State we moved back to the area. I had met the previous owner of the farm while working on their grounds.

We currently live and raise our family on a sheep farm in Potter County. We strive to provide a childhood of years gone past

Benn Batterson purchased this farmhouse in 2000

Why Benn Batterson chose Pennsylvania

We purchased the farmhouse and 34 acres in 2000 and bought the remainder of the farm years later. Over the years we have improved much of the house with the latest being a new barn roof this past summer.

I love the peace and quiet here. However the winters can be long between Christmas and Spring.

What makes this farmhouse unique

We are 20 minutes from the nearest traffic light. Our farm is bordered on three sides by 250,000 acres of State Forest land. Public access to these areas allows for many outdoor activities. We are the last permanent residence on Short Run Road and may only see the mailman each day in the winter.

Perfect For The Stars

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Benn's house over the weekend. We drove approximately 5 hours each way for this experience. Everything about his house is perfect. Everything that you would need is there. Including the chickens that keep you company. We were fortunate to have clear skies on Saturday night and words can't describe the stars. No need to go to the state park, just go the the fields around the house and enjoy. I met Benn and he was extremely helpful in everything we needed. We will definitely be back again. Thanks Benn

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

Amazing experience staying Ben's farmhouse, the house was equipped with all the needed facilities. Its located at the best possible location if you are visiting this area as its close to everything but precisely tucked in from everything. People coming for star gazing can actually stay there and get amazing views of the sky. Ben also has a tower further down from the house which he offered us to visit. The house itself has marvelous views if you are interested in nature. PA Grand canyon is a 40 mins drive and cherry spring state park around 12 mins.

We got unlucky as it rained and it was cloudy so couldn't see the stars but the overall atmosphere paid off. Will be visiting this place again :)

The perfect place to unwind and recharge.

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of six, two couples and two teens, that stayed at the farm house for its proximity to Cherry Springs State Park. This was our second stop on a road trip from Southern Illinois to Sandusky, OH, Niagara Falls, Galeton, PA and York Springs, PA. After already spending a combined total of close to 20 hours on the road, we were more than ready to spend a few days relaxing at the farmhouse. We had read countless reviews of how fantastic this place was, and it did not disappoint. Upon entering the house, you are immediately taken back by the charm that the house has to offer. It was built sometime in the 1860's - 1880's and has maintained as much of the "Old farmhouse" charm as possible. There is no air conditioning in the house, and it wasn't needed either. The temps there stay relatively mild in the summer. We were there from 6/27 to 6/30 and one of those days only got up to 68 degrees. A jacket and long pants are definitely recommended, especially if you intend on taking advantage of the dark skies for star gazing. Which, by the way, don't waste your time driving the Cherry Springs, the viewing is far more spectacular at the farmhouse. We were able to see thousands of stars including the Milky Way and Mars with the naked eye. The farmhouse is very secluded, which we loved. The closest grocery store is about 20 minutes away, but the drive never felt that long because the scenery is breathtaking. We enjoyed every minute of the seclusion. We didn't mind that phone reception was sketchy at best. We only left once to go to the grocery store. Even the teenagers enjoyed being outside and taking in the scenery. Oh, and did I mention the chickens??? What farmhouse is complete without chickens??? The chickens were a blast to be around. Thankful would come down everyday to release the chickens from the hen house and put them up at night. Benn, Thankful, and their children were very hospitable and wonderful to talk to. We even got to meet and play with their three dogs, Rex, Gilley, and Cybil. The house has plenty of room for everyone to relax and unwind. Our days were spent sitting on one of the porches, walking around the property or down the road, playing with the chickens, or playing board games. The nights were reserved for star gazing. We could not get enough of the gorgeous scenery. We look forward to being able to go back some day to "recharge" again.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5

What a great home! We had a crew up there in Kettle Creek planting trees and this place was only 10 minutes away from our project site. Everyone was happy with the accommodations and atmosphere. We'll be back!

Fantastic for both daytime and stars!

  • 5 of 5

The house is located up in the hill in their firm. It is a fantastic panorama. At night, the stars are all over the sky.

The interior is woody with a fire place. you feel like you are surrounded by the nature in this cozy home. You can really relax.

Benn and Thankful helped us for everything. They are super nice to talk. They are amazingly honest and heartwarming. Moreover, their children are also super nice and cheerful and they played with mine for the all day long. Our children did not want to leave this nice home.

We just regret that it is only one night stay, but wanted to stay longer!

A Gem!

  • 5 of 5

We are so happy to have found this property. It was so charming and beautiful. The location was perfect for star gazing and for a break...it really is remote, but that is kind of the point!

The house provided bed linens, but I brought our own anyway because I have "hotel skeeve" issues. I never even had to use ours! Everything was very clean and I had no problems using what was provided. That speaks volumes as to the cleanliness and feel of the house.

The owners were wonderful and so friendly.

My children had so much fun running and exploring and playing. They have now declared that they want to live in a farmhouse on lots of property.

We are hoping to come back again in the future. Next time we hope to try one of the larger bedrooms that are gorgeous (we let other extended family members have those rooms on this trip).

You will be visiting a farm that was established in the late 1800s. The first German settlers established the village of Germania @ 1860 and created their farms in the outlying countryside. They cleared the land of trees and brush to grow their crops and raise livestock.
