About the property

Beautiful, private, spacious on one acre close to river and wildlife refuge

BRAND NEW TO HOMEAWAY AS OF 7/2015

Beautiful private residence on one fenced acre set up to accommodate everyone from couples to groups of 9 or more if you bring RV. Plenty of space for boats and parking. Located in the small settlement of Cibola on the Lower Colorado River, this location offers the solitude of desert environment, without the noise and buzz of being right on the river. Easy access to 2 boat launches within one- two miles and the many recreational opportunites of the Cibola Wildlife Refuge which is famous for being an important winter nesting ground for migrating birds. It is also host to an array of wildlife such as deer, bobcat, cougar, fox and many birds of prey . The big draws to area are hunting, boating, fishing ,rockhounding, hiking, off roading, kayaking, tubing and canoeing. If you just want to relax, take a picnic basket down to the famous Hippie Hole beach lagoon for picnic, swim and maybe throw a pole in the water.

The home has 3 bedrooms: one king with en suite bath, one queen and one room with 2 twin beds with shared bath . There is a den with 42" TV/DVR/DVD and 2 large sofas with sliding glass doors out to screened deck and palapa with BBQ and seating. There is a game room with combo pool /air hockey table and a large living room with sectional couch, fireplace, 42" screen TV DVR/DVD. The large kitchen has dishes and silverware for 12, pots, pans, coffee maker, ice maker, dishwasher, toaster, micro and a beautiful handcrafted island. The floors are a pet friendly barnwood laminate with carpet in the bedrooms and den. We are rustic furniture makers and made much of the furniture you will see in the home which is decorated with artwork and photography that reflect the flora and fauna of the area.

The home sleeps 6 in beds and could sleep 3 people on couches. There are 2 RV hookup sites with power .

The home would make a quiet retreat for couples, families, hunting parties and we can refer you to local hunting and fishing guides.

This is a off the beaten track area . The nearest markets and restaurants are in Blythe 30 mins away so guests should plan on making their own entertainment, bringing and cooking their own food since it is 30 miles to the nearest town. Also, plan on arriving with enough gas to get to Blythe 30 miles away.

Best time to visit the area depends on what you want to do. It can get up to 115 in the summer months so activities on the water are best during that time as is the fishing. Fall and winter are hunting season and a good time to hike, rockhound, mountain bike and explore the river.

TOP 10 THINGS TO DO IN THE AREA

FISHING

Cibola provides opportunities to fish for the following species: largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, striped bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish, crappie, sunfish, tilapia, and common carp. Possession of the Colorado River fishing stamp which can be purchased online is required. Cibola Lake and adjoining lands are closed to all activities between Labor Day to March 15 in order to provide a safe and undisturbed area for the wintering waterfowl. Fishing, however, is permitted in a boat on the main channel of the Colorado River and all land and water to the west. Fishing tends to be best during the hottest months of June, July and August.

HUNTING

Public hunting on Cibola NWR is permitted in specified areas. Hunting opportunities are available for the following species: Canada geese, snow geese, ducks, coots, gallinules, Gambel's quail, mourning and white-winged doves, mule deer (bow, gun, muzzle loader), and cottontail rabbits. Hunting season generally runs from October thru January. For more info contact the Cibola Sportman's Club Phone: 702-355-8784 E-Mail: info@hunt4geese.com or call me and I can refer you to a couple private guides.

BIKING, HIKING, WALKING, OFF ROADING

Great fall, winter and spring activities and there are miles of trails to explore within walking/riding distance of house. The Cibola Wildlife Refuge trail along the levee road goes thru the refuge and is approx. 12 mile loop, fairly level and follows the river. Goose Loop Trail (car tour) and the Cornfield Nature Trail (footpath) on the Refuge are wonderful for nature viewing. A visit to the Cibola NWR Interpretive center is a must as well. They have done an incredible job along with the help of hundreds of volunteers in making the area more hospitable to the migrating birds and public education projects.

If weather permits and you are in shape for a long day hike, check out Clapp Springs and its palm oasis which are unique to this area, offering the only permanent water source to such wildlife species as desert bighorn sheep, desert tortoise and wild burros. Rather than hide among canyon walls as most springs in the desert, Clapp Spring lies in an open landscape. Saguaro cactus dot the southeastern part of the wilderness, a rare plant species in California.

Getting There: To access this wilderness, take the Milpitas Wash Road exit off of State Highway 78 (approximately 12 miles south of Palo Verde or about 5 miles south of the cibola refuge turnoff on 78 . Go north and the wilderness will be east of the road. THIS AREA CAN BE TREACHEROUS MANY MONTHS OF THE YEAR...PEOPLE HAVE DIED OUT THERE WITHOUT WATER SO GO PREPARED AND TAKE MAPS.......DO YOUR RESEARCH PLEASE.

You will find lots of off roading opportunities by consulting your off road guidebooks. Most popular are the Bradshaw trail, Milpitas Wash Road, Black Mountain rd thru the Chocolate Mountains, Indian Pass and Ferguson Lake Rd.

VISIT THE BLYTHE INTAGLIOS

Located about 15 miles north of Blythe off highway 95. There are a total of six distinct figures in three locations, including a human figure at each location and an animal figure at two locations. The largest human figure measures 171 feet from head to toe. Geoglyphs are difficult to date, so archaeologists have no way of knowing their age.

ACCESSIBILITY: Limited, easy hiking (less than 1/4 mile) to two of the site areas. The third site area requires 1/2 mile hike, part up a 10% grade. Paths are unimproved natural gravels.

ROCK HOUNDING AND GEODE HUNTING

The Wiley Well District is located in the Colorado Desert, south of Interstate 10 between Desert Center and Blythe. This beautiful desert country is made up of the Little Chuckawalla, Mule, and Palo Verde Mountains; the Black Hills; and numerous washes. Winter rains coax colorful flowers from the cactus and other vegetation, making it a beautiful place to spend time in January or February. The district is also rich in history, from the gold rush days to General Patton’s tank training days during World War II. It contains ancient fossils as well as artifacts from early Native Americans, pioneers, conquistadors, ranchers, and military troops.

Best known for its many geode beds and a variety of other rocks and minerals is the Wiley Well area which has been popular with rockhounds since the 1940s. There are several productive geode beds in the Black Hills, including Hauser, Roads End, Potato Patch, Cinnamon, Straw, and Hidden Saddle Beds. Typical geodes are hollow, spherical rock structures; solid geodes are called nodules. Geodes may also have unusual shapes. Although you can still find geodes at the surface of the beds, you may find more by digging into the soft volcanic ash, as long as you keep the disturbance to the surface within allowable limits.

BOATING

Kayaks and canoes can be launched anywhere off the levee rd where there is a outlet to the river or at Hippie Cove. If you have a larger boat, there is a good boat ramp located at Oxbow lake approx 1 mile from house. This is the best place to launch anything other than a canoe, kayak or tubes. The cost to launch is $10 . We tried to launch our 17' bass boat at the free boat ramp near the Cibola Bridge and it was dicey because of the small area, deep gravel and rocks on the bank .

Kayaking or canoeing can be experienced in one the the lakes nearby...Oxbow or Cibola Lake or you can just paddle/float downriver to Walter's Camp which is about a 12 mile trip. If you floated, it can take around 4 hours so paddling you would obviously get there a lot sooner. When you get close to where you have to pull out, you need to u turn up the old channel a little ways. We have a local person that will meet you at the house, and you can follow her down to Walter's camp, leave your car and she will shuttle you back to your launch point so you have a car downriver when you finish your trip. She charges $35 for this service.

RIVER TUBING

A lot of fun for everyone and we supply the tubes and life vests......we have 8 of them. Meet your shuttle driver Darlene at the house and you will follow her to Walter's camp with you car and leave it there and she will return you to your launch site to make your float. She charges $35 and you pay her directly. We ask that you give us 2 weeks notice if possible for this service.

SWIM AND PICNIC AT HIPPIE COVE

This beautiful little spot is perfect for hanging out, picnicking , swimming in the shallow lagoon area for all ages. It can be popular on the weekends ....dogs off leash ok. Take a couple tubes and beach chairs. Located one mile away.

About Laurie Roberts

We have been self employed most of our lives making a living with our hands and creativity. We spend a lot of time in nature with our main residence being in the mountains of San Diego County where we built/manage a popular petfriendly wilderness vacation rental on the same property called Camp Ribbonwood which is also on Homeaway. We enjoy our animals, hiking, painting, photography, and woodworking and look forward to new experiences in Camp Cibola.

Laurie Roberts purchased this house in 2015

Why Laurie Roberts chose Cibola

We had been looking for a property near the Colorado River since we own a pontoon boat and enjoy exploring out of the way places on the river however we did not like having to trailer the boat to get to those places and we did not want to own property in a HOA community. When we started looking for properties along the river, we realized we did not like the tight lots, noise and close neighbors many of the river properties have so went on google earth and basically took a tour of the settlements along the river that were within a 3 hr drive of our home. We found Cibola which was located right next to the refuge, had acreage, very few neighbors and easy access to river. There were only a few homes for sale and feel very lucky to have found the property now we now own. The home feels spacious, light, open and the location is private.

What makes this house unique

River close, spacious, extremely comfortable, well decorated and appointed, huge fence yard friendly , private, safe community, 2 RV sites in yard, close to beach. In addition to all the things you can do on the river, it is close to interesting recreational activities such as rockhounding and visiting the Geoglyphs near Blythe.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at this home! We had 7 of us staying at the house and 3 others from Cibola join us for meals. We were able to entertain and cook for all 10 for numerous days on end. The kitchen is perfect for cooking and storing the food. There are two areas for people to "play" in making it possible for some to sleep on one end of the house while those on the other end stayed up later. Thank you so much!!! You thought of everything we might need. :o)

Very clean, peaceful and very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

First of all Laurie was great to work with! She took care of things that came up when we first arrived.

The property itself sits on one acre of clean and trimmed land. Well fenced and very private with no neighbors on either side. The neighbors properties could use some work though. :)

The home was so clean its looked as nobody has ever been there! The furnishings are very very nice but comfortable and relaxing. We loved the way the place is decorated. Only thing that was really missing was tongs in the kitchen. The barbeque ones were hard to make bacon with! :)

There is a store about 1 mile west on Baseline that has basic supplies and very friendly people!

The Colorado River is maybe 2 miles to the west on Baseline with plenty of levee roads to explore and wildlife to see. Our Cattle Dogs loved swimming everyday!

Just to the east are numerous dirt roads to explore up into the mountains. We really enjoyed mountain biking there and taking in all the snake tracks from each night before.

Also Cibola Wildlife Refugee is just south of the property. A must drive through tour! We got an impromptu tour of the closed facility by a nice U.S. Fish and Wildlife Ranger that felt bad is was closed! So awesome!

Cibola is secluded so make sure to bring everything you need unless you want to make a trip into Blythe. Which really is an easy drive.

Thanks Laurie for letting us stay at your place! The rest was so much need and I hope we get to return soon!

Amazing Vacation Retreat by the Colorado River!

  • 5 of 5

This river house is impressive in every way. It is spacious, clean, and fully equipped with our vacation needs.

First impression:

The home has a large lot with plenty of space for parking. From the front you see the front door and the amazing lanai. My wife was already impressed, and it was just the beginning. The front door opens to a beautifully decorated living area with a comfortable couch, large dining table, and a fun game room. The house was cool, the floors were clean, and the beer mugs were in the freezer ready for use. Between the game room, tv, and wifi, the kids were occupied.

Details:

The house had everything we needed, plus more. With the exception of food, most things were provided. The beds were freshly made. The cabinets were fully stocked. The pillows were well arranged, and the towels were rolled. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, and even moisturizing lotion with aloe were provided. There were also rafts with a pump, extra river hats, and sweatshirts if you need them.

Location:

Directions were easy to follow and it was conveniently located near the local store and within 2 miles from the "Hippie Hole". Just some thing to note -- there may be folks camping out at the Hippie Hole, so you may have to look around for another beach to enjoy the water--although people are generally friendly and easy-going. Also, the town is about 25 miles away, so try to not forget anything before heading out.

Overall a great vacation home. Definitely recommend and we hope to come back again soon.

Beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely home last week and couldn't be happier with our stay! The home is furnished so nicely and comes stocked with absoutely anything you would need to have a great vacation (of course, you must bring your own food, but it has everything my own kitchen has to cook with!) as well as all the towels you would need and extra bedding. Most times, when we rent a 'home away from home,' there is always something missing when we go to make our meals, but not this time! It looks as though this home is only a few years old. It has wi-fi, and the trick to be able to make calls is to connect to the wifi and then set your phone to airplane mode and make the call! Also, I loved the fact that even though it was 120 degrees outside, from the minute we walked in the house, it was cool and comfortable and never changed! Our two grandchildren loved the pool table, as well! The river is only a few miles away, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else the next time we visit the Colorado River!

Fantastic place and highly recommend staying.

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a quiet out of the way place with activities to do, this is it. Close to the Colorado River for fishing, floating and just hanging by the water for the day. Yuma is about an hours drive to jump across the border, which has wonderful Mexican souvenirs and a great restaurant with outdoor seating. If you want to pamper yourself there's a great spa in the downtown section of Yuma, A Healing Touch Day Spa, run by a mother and her daughter which I went to and had an amazing message and facial. Just remember that Yuma is an hour ahead of Cibola when you make your booking.

The wildlife refuge is close by and driving through to see all the birds was great fun. I walked in the desert every morning with my dog and after a rain the flowers began to bloom. It's a beautiful sight to see all the different colours.

The house is amazing. More than what we expected. It has everything in it that you require to have a comfortable stay. The outdoor seating is great in the morning to listen to all the birds singing their individual songs, watch the quails scurry around and occasionally you may see a rabbit.

The beds are extremely comfortable, and the house is very tastefully decorated. We never had a problem with anything during our visit and reaching Laurie was easy with a quick response back.

The yard is fenced in so there's never a worry leaving your dog if you decide to go somewhere. Blythe is close for groceries there is an Albertson's with everything you need, including a fresh meat counter to buy a couple of steak to BBQ when you get back which of course we did.

We highly recommend this great place. We had a wonderful time and will come back again.

Thank you Laurie.
