First and foremost- can't say enough how great the location of this house is. Sits right on the Sandy River with great views nature and river from all the rooms. The layout of the rooms was ideal and the cabin seemed to be almost new, was clean and neat - location was perfect, within a short drive of the ski resorts at Mt. Hood
Sadly however, what could have easily been a 5 star review is not because of simple oversights that just became irritating over the course of the week: We experienced the following:
1. The hut tub was completely green when we got that - smelled completely rotten. Had to shock and work on it constantly just to get it passable. our last day the pool/spa guy came and couldn't even explain how it got that bad. he drained half of it and worked on it for a hour but we were leaving that day.
2. The bbq grill outside had no propane, so we had to buy some. Grill worked good otherwise and was nice.
3. The wood burning stove was a pellet stove. No pellets - we had to go buy some of those and the stove worked good for a day, and then went out. After you tubing it - and having no real tools to use - we were able to clean it out and get it working again (needed due to weather) and it was clear that no-one had cleaned out the burner/ignitor in a long time, if ever. The bolts were rusted shut on the burnpot so I say this with ceraintly.
4. The front door knob fell off in our hands every time we came and went.
5. had a nice pool table, but all the cues had broken tips so we fixed them ourselves
6. All the extra blankets in the house we full of dog hair - maid obviously didn't wash them so we had to. Irritating.
7. Towel rack was broken in one of the bathrooms.
8. The Microwave over the stove had a broken panel - it works but caves in every time you have to push any button on it.
9. The stove was preset at 350 and we couldn't figure out how o cook at any other temperature than that. (not user friendly).
10. Although 12 of us were staying there - they had one small garbage can and one small recycling can. = trash area looks like wild animals had shredded the trash before we got there and it was full - so then we couldn't even put our trash out without making the situation worse.
11. The wifi was terrible/slow. barely worked at all. (some of that could be limited choices)
So - everything on this list is a EASY but when you add it all up - it was pretty annoying for the money we spent
12 grown adults = way too many for this house to sleep comfortably. Other reviewers are correct, 8 adults max unless others are not picky. We arrived really hopeful and excited about the house. Everything looked amazing - beautiful setting, awesome dining table and living space, pool table, sweet hot tub, pellet stove, two master bedrooms. This house has a ton going for it. Unfortunately, the more we wandered the house, the more we found "amiss" and then just plain wrong. Started with a ripped carpet, a broken towel rack in the bathroom, a wonky futon frame, multiple slats torn off the master vertical blinds. That's when I started taking photos of all the damage. Renting this house comes with the steepest deposit I've ever seen; it almost seemed like a trap, to have all this stuff be wrong, charge a huge deposit and hope the renters aren't smart enough to photograph it on the front end of the stay. Walking into it with the nightly price tag and deposit it has, I would expect a pristine environment. But soon enough, more and more off items were discovered. There was a load of laundry in the dryer, dirty dishes in the washer and the cabinets. Upstairs had what looked to be (and later confirmed by the owner that it was) a ransacked entertainment center and a bunk bed that was so loose, we didn't feel comfortable having anyone sleep in it. It moved/shifted easily 8-10 inches when lightly pushed. The final straw for me was when someone pointed out the Blair Witch pile of river rocks that was holding up one corner of a king bed in one of the masters. As I photographed everything the first few hours of our stay, I emailed them to the owners. They were always apologetic and admitted to knowing about much of it, but said they didn't know about the bunk or rocks holding up the king bed. Said they would have the bunk tightened before the next guests, but no offers for helping us at the time. They did assure me that I would receive my deposit back, which I did thankfully. They said the reason for the deposit was because someone had stolen a Wii and TV. All in all, it was a great trip -- we skiied at Timberline on our full day and enjoyed the hot tub (even while being watched with creepy security cameras pointed at it). Great spot, just the weirdest high-end yet neglected house I've possibly ever rented.
Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at this home. Great floor plan for multiple family members. We had 8 adults and 4 children and were quite comfortable and satisfied with the space. The hot tub was popular due to the gorgeous view of the Sandy River. The guys loved playing pool, and the kitchen was perfect...love the huge wood dining table and the extra bar seating! I think the only negative was that the pellet stove was not working while we were there. We actually brought a lot of pellets with us (it was a cold, snowy weekend), but were unable to use them. The owner was nice enough to offer to come by on the 2nd night to look at it, but my son-in-law decided it wasn't going to be fixed very easily....so we gave up on the idea of having a fire. Kind of a bummer, but oh, well.....we had a great time anyway! We would definitely stay here again.
Our family celebrated an early Thanksgiving in this comfortable home. Lots of room for everyone, well equipped kitchen, large dining table, outdoor fire pit, plenty of beds and linens, gracious host, and hot tub with a view. We truly loved our time on the Sandy River and hope to return again soon.
Great location, beutiful home, plenty of space! Thank you Celeste for your quick responses and letting our family to enjoy such a gem in a great location. We would definitely stay again!
The pictures on the website really don't do this house justice- it's much lighter, and larger than I expected. All the bedrooms are good sized and the two master suites downstairs are quite high end. In addition, there's a lovely, large game room upstairs with a pool table and lots of windows, and a connected additional room with a bunk set and futon that was perfect for our teenagers. Lots of privacy too for soaking in the hot tub or sitting by the enormous fire pit or just lounging on the back porch listening to the sound of the river. Room for activities like badminton and bocce ball in the front of the house. Very clean and well equipped kitchen too. One of the best places we've every stayed and we've done lots of vacation rentals.
