This comfortable home has two bedrooms, two full baths, a fireplace inside and fire-pit outside. A fenced backyard with covered deck provides a sense of privacy, yet so close to town; a perfect place to unwind after a day of hiking/biking in nearby forests, seeking out the many waterfalls, or walking to town to enjoy the shops, restaurants, brewery and more!
White squirrels are regular visitors sharing several bird-feeders for your viewing pleasure. Other features include two flat screen TVs, cable, WIFI, washer/dryer, central heat and air, BBQ grill and bike rack. Check out the wine rack for a Take One/Leave One experience!
Brevard is a perfect home base and only a short drive to Asheville and the Biltmore Estate, Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Forest, and other attractions like the Blue Ridge Parkway, NC Arboretum, NC Nature Center, the Carl Sandburg home and the professional, NC State Theater known as Flat Rock Playhouse.
We fell in love with Brevard several years ago as we began to consider retirement. We visited several larger and smaller communities in Western North Carolina, but Brevard seemed like the perfect place for us. Its proximity to two airports and other larger cities like Hendersonville and Asheville provide all of the amenities we could ever need without experiencing the heavy traffic and congestion we lived with in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area of North Texas! When we bought the Blue Bungalow to live in while we built our home in Pisgah Forest, we knew it would be a place to share with others who might enjoy the convenience of in town living while being so close to the many beautiful forests and attractions WNC has to offer. The moderate climate and majestic views of the NC mountains are the gifts we appreciate every day. We hope you enjoy your stay!
Jamie and Buddy Tompkins purchased this bungalow in 2012
Sorry to be so delayed in reviewing, but this property was perfect for our needs. It is very nicely decorated, and has just about everything you would want at home, something you would reach for at home to use, is here too. I had one minor issue and Buddy came right away to take care of it. The bed is very comfy by the way. My dogs like having the run of the yard, though we were there three weeks, the weeds were trying to take over a bit in the back. Very enjoyable stay.
Location - Great. In downtown, you don't get the mtn. views but you get to stroll to coffee shops, restaurants, bars, arts district, movie house.
Owners - Nice and prompt.
Property - Very cute exterior with fun color. Super fenced outdoor space that's good for kids, pets, private firepit time. Equipped for bikes. Interior is a little more like Grandma's house w. Victorian LR furniture, doll & doilies. Clean but different style than exterior. AC worked great. Towels were nice, clean and fluffy. Bird feeder stocked and patronized by fattest birds I've ever seen.
My husband and I had a delightful stay in the blue bungalow. We loved the attention to thoughtful details in the house and grounds and the location is great. We walked to restaurants and the library and the bakery, etc. We would definitely like to stay there again.
We could not have asked for a better place. The bungalow was well-maintained, both inside and out. Jamie and Buddy, the owners, were extremely helpful and responded quickly to any concerns we had, which were minimal. There was a burned out light bulb, a broken bird feeder (we think the squirrels knocked it down) and recycling that didn't get collected. In each of these cases, Jamie and Buddy responded immediately to our email or phone call. I'm sorry I missed meeting them to tell them, in person, how great the place was. The master bathroom and closet were huge. Lots of space to hang our clothes and store our luggage. The second bedroom and bathroom were just right for our weekend guests. The covered deck was so comfortable and inviting. We spent most of our evenings out there, after coming home from a great dinner in town. The location was great, so that the dinners I just mentioned, were within walking distance. Our favorite places were Falls Landing, Wine Down, and Mayberry's. Those were our go-to places for lunch and dinner. We also found a great breakfast spot called Creekside Subs. This is a drive-to location, but just a few blocks from downtown. A new place in the new "arts district", called Magpie, had fantastic barbeque. Besides eating (that's not all we did), we spent our time fishing, hiking to waterfalls, and driving on the Blue Ridge parkway. Everything around the area was beautiful. We will definitely stay at the Bungalow, if we vacation in Brevard again.
The home was very clean, well-cared for, and comfortable.
We liked the fact it was close to town and could just walk to restaurants and shops.
Brevard is a wonderful town with many trail options, and the Bungalow is biker friendly with a wash station, and bike hooks all over the back porch.
Our stay at the Thompkins' Blue Bungalow was an easy pleasure right from the start several months ago when Mel and I made our initial inquiries. The directions were impeccable and the house was all that we expected based on the online pics and description. It was clean and ready for us and our dog, Pete. Although we never needed to call on the Thompkins during our stay, I'm sure they would have been responsive based on our experience during the inquiry stage.
Size and amenities are important and the Blue Bungalow fit us to a T. It is a perfect size for a couple. We even comfortably accommodated two guests for several days who also loved it. Stove and fridge are clean and easy to operate and the dining area is comfortable. The heating/cooling system and TV/WiFi worked perfectly with no fiddling around. The queen size bed was great with an excellent mattress and really nice linens. The shower had decent water pressure. The yard was secure for our dog and the deck was a lovely place to hang out with a glass of wine. Overall guidelines for dogs were reasonable and easy to live with. Big bonus: a legendary white squirrel lives in the trees which you can see if you have pure heart. Just kidding. But it is very elusive. We saw it twice during our 2 wk stay.
Another critical factor is location. The Blue Bungalow was in a perfect spot for us being near the center of town in a pretty neighborhood as well as close to nearby recreational areas of Pisgah Nat'l Forest and Dupont State Forest. We loved walking to the uptown area to restaurants and shops. Our favorites included Square Root for a special dinner and Creekside (a drive away) for a downhome breakfast. Bracken Mt Bakery on Broad St has fabulous croissants, brioches, scones, breads etc. Beer and Bracelets will surprise you. The Farmer's Mkt on Sat AM is really nice with some good food trucks for breakfast. Big bonus: the neighbors are very nice and easy to talk to. The Cedar Mt café on Greenville Highway right outside Dupont State Forest is very good. Try the Reasonover trail at Dupont where we found a lot of wild flowers. Dupont is full of water falls. Same goes for Pisgah where we even managed to find a group of nearly a hundred pink lady slippers. Davidson River Outfitters will set you up for fly fishing. They're great.
We hope to return to the Blue Bunglow within the year. We recommend it without hesitation to you.
Nearby Brevard Music Center offers premiere musical performances and hosts the Mountain Song Festival each fall. Brevard College, Brevard Health & Racquet Club, local craft beer at Brevard Brewery and Oscar Blues are nearby. Flat Rock Playhouse, the state theatre of NC, offers Broadway quality performances and is only a short drive away. Transylvania Co. is the "Land of Waterfalls" with 250 waterfalls found throughout Pisgah National Forest, DuPont State Forest and Gorges State Park. The area is known for many outdoor adventures, biking, hiking, cultural arts and home of the beautiful White Squirrels.
