ASK ABOUT OUR COOKING AND EXPLORING PACKAGES FOR 2016

The French Country Cottage - Les Chouettes (The Owls) is a typical Perigoridian Cottage. It is found within easy driving distance from Bordeaux, Sarlat-la-Caneda, Bergerac, Lalinde, Le Bugue and Perigueux, only1 km from Tremolat village in the Dordogne valley of Aquitaine.

The French Country Cottage is a restored farmhouse. It offers a tranquil environment, charming French decor, a great private pool for those warm sunny days which overlooks a walnut orchard.

This converted farmhouse has 4 nice size bedrooms and is able to comfortably accommodate up to 8 people'. The main bedroom is beautifully decorated in typical french style and very spacious.

The kitchen is well-equipped for you to try your hand at any new recipes with the ingredients from any of the nearby markets. There is a good size stove and oven, fridge/freezer, and microwave. (We have a spare fridge/freezer in the laundry to keep your drinks cold in the summer) The dishwasher will take care of any dirty dishes.

There are 2 sitting rooms, which are equipped with SAT/TV, DVD and CD player and board games for rainy weather.

The kids lounge is equipped with Playstation 2 too.

Cots and high chairs are available on request.

Outside the swimming pool is fenced and there is a large garden for the children to run free.

Outside we have volley ball so you can challenge your family and friends to a match. We are also equipped with table tennis and bicyles to keep you occupied.

The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:: The french country cottage is a great rental and is only a 15 minute walk from the village, There are 4 fantastic restaurants in the village - one of which holds a Michelin star and is situated in Le Vieux Logis hotel - there is a pizzeria, and a great Bistro which offers typical Perigordian cuisine, as well as a new comer called Les Tartines which serves delicious tartines for those who are looking for a little something. There is a great little bakery where you can buy your morning croissants and baguettes for a picnic later in the day. We love cycling through the countryside to visit the local markets to pick up ingredients for a meal later.

Approximately 3 km from the cottage is the Bassin nautique which is one the Dordogne River, here you and your family can enjoy all types of water activities - water skiing, paddle boating, paddling and swimming. There is also a great pizzeria/restaurant where you can sit outside and enjoy the sun setting over the Dordogne River.

Leaving Tremolat village (on the other side) a mere 4 km is a typical Perigordian Auberge called Les Truffiers. Here you will be welcomed by Yannick. You will enjoy the most incredible meal (try to go with an empty stomach) He really provides the most wonderful gastronomic experience.. The restaurant is quirky and fabulous.

About Karen Carter

The owners are Alan and Karen Carter, we are South African,. We have travelled and lived in America and the UK and included all the things we like to have when we are away from home. We discovered the Dordogne in 2008 when we visited a friend who owns a property outside Tremolat. We both have fallen in love with the area. Alan and I would like to share our beautiful farmhouse with anyone who loves fabulous food, unbelievable scenery, amazing history, and peace. The peace you too discover.

Karen Carter purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Karen Carter chose Perigord Noir

We fell in love with Tremolat and the beautiful Dordogne region when we visited in 2008 We have returned every year since that trip and we now have our beautiful cottage. Tremolat itself offers 4 superb restaurants and 1 wine bar and is within easy reach of wine regions such as Bordeaux, Begerac, Pecharment, and the lovely smooth wines of Monbazzilac ( gorgeous with fois gras), It is also within easy driving distance of wonderful historical sites such as Baynac and Castlenaud Castles, 1 hour from the paleolithic sites such as Les Eysiers. We are in easy access (only 35 km from Bergerac Airport, Bordeaux Airport is a 2 hour drive from the house)

What makes this cottage unique

FREE WIFI - JUNE and SEPTEMBER Specials - :: GREAT for CHILDREN The property is in easy access of the main freeways. No matter what your interests are, everything is close by - vineyards, castles and history, history of early man, nature, water sports, walking, cycling, markets, shopping and fabulous restaurants. Around every corner is a new experience!!

It’s nearly impossible to find any words to describe this magnificent place. We’ve had a beautiful fortnight here with biking, swimming and most of all enjoying the small towns, villages, markets and castles. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality! We’ re definitly looking forward to come back next year.

An adventure in the country

  • 5 of 5

Arriving at this house I was in awe in just how scenic the country side is, nestled next to a walnut orchard my holiday hear allowed me a great break from my busy life style. Biking along the quaint streets or going for a quite glass of wine in the town square are a couple of activities I was able to enjoy in Tremolat, If i did not feel like going out there was a number of activities my friends and i could enjoy, such as lounging by the pool and playing volley ball at the house or simply having drinks in the garden over looking the orchard. My Compliments to the owner for helping me out with anything i needed as well as their recommendations on tourist sights that were good to see.

I would definitely recommend this as a getaway for any one looking to escape the hustle and bustle for a bit.

Les Chouettes French Country Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Don't make the mistake of thinking of "cottage" as small. This charming property is actually a rather large and surprisingly spacious home, and provided me with the most perfect place to have a true French-style getaway break from the humdrum and stress of day-to-day living! There is something extra special and welcoming for me about stepping through the entrance to a home and finding oneself in the kitchen, the true heart of any great home, and from the moment I walked through the door of Les Chouettes I felt right at home in the beautifully warm & cosy (again, do not think small here) kitchen. In fact, when we weren't cuddled up in the warmth and extreme comfort of our beds, or relaxing in the lounge watching a bit of TV or reading in front of the roaring fireplace, most of our time at home was spent at the kitchen table, planning our days, or meals or activities for the day, eating, drinking coffee or wine and just having a good chat and many laughs. The home is pretty as a picture from the outside and the inside does not disappoint. Each of the 4 bedrooms is tastefully furnished and decorated with a genuine, yet subtle French theme throughout. The beds are super comfy and the bedlinen is of a beautiful, high quality. In the bathrooms there was never a shortage of fluffy, white dry towels and each room throughout the house was heated to just the right temperature for the rather chilly conditions at the time. There are 2 separate lounges and as mentioned the kitchen also doubled up as a sort of lounge area, so no matter how many in your family and what their ages, there is plenty of space for everyone to relax without falling over one another! The garden is huge and I'd imagine in the summer, it provides a perfect setting for al fresco meals under the gazebo outside the kitchen or plenty of fun times in and around the large pool area. The location of the property is ideal with many interesting and beautiful places to visit and see in this magical part of France. Every morning we started our day with a brisk walk, or you could just as easily take a relaxing, casual stroll through the village and surrounds. There is a wide variety of fine restaurants and eateries in pretty close proximity and the absolute highlight for me was a very special lunch at the Michelin-starred restaurant at Le Vieux Logis, right in the heart of Tremolat. The memories from this holiday and my gorgeous home-away from-home will happily

linger forever.....

Splendid, quiet spot in the countryside!

  • 5 of 5

We just finished a week's stay at this French cottage. It was the perfect spot for us! The cottage is beautifully situated down a country road and is adjacent to a walnut orchard. It is quiet and peaceful. We visited local farmers' markets nearly every day and made full use of the well-equipped kitchen, turning our fresh vegetables, meat, and cheese into delicous meals every night. We enjoyed the bikes and took a beautiful ride through the local farms and pastures. Although there were only two of us, it could have easily accommodated 8 people. Karen was great to work with, very responsive and accommodating. We would stay there again in a heartbeat! This lovely location will be part of our sweet honeymoon memories for the rest of our lives!

Absolutely lovely location and house. All four of us were pleased beyond compare with this house. It was clean, comfortably furnished and included everything we needed for a very happy week. Ample space for all of us to have privacy and time together. Pool and outdoor seating were lovely too.

We had a wonderful week staying at Les Chouettes

  • 4 of 5

We loved the property and Karen made sure we had everything we needed. The Tremolat village is very special and we loved Le Bugue, Limeuil and Sarlat. We also ventured into the Purple Perigord to taste wine and visit some of the medieval villages. The lunch at Les Truffieres was an absolute highlight.

Step into ancient history by visiting the worlds best kept secret - The Dordogne valley of the Aquitaine Region. The French Country -Cottage Les Chouettes is situated in the hamlet of Nardoux, 1 km from Tremolat village. The property backs onto a walnut orchard. It is accessible to great walks, and cycle trips in the countryside. One can enjoy lovely day trips by foot, bike or car. .

Visit Sarlat for its wonderful market on a Wednesday and Saturday or simply enjoy the ambiance of this beautiful town.
