Location, Location Location! Stay in the middle of the action Downtown Melbourne has to offer, but in a private and quiet location steps from the shops and restaurants of E New Haven Ave. Melbourne's best beaches are across the causeway away (4 minutes by car). Go back in time & stay in this fully licensed, historic, restored and centrally located house built in 1916.

Historic Downtown Melbourne is where the action of Florida's Space Coast happens. Friday Fest happens The 2nd Friday of every month between 6-10pm. There is art, vendors, live music and food booths lining up E New Haven Ave. For more info about downtown events, check out the downtown Melbourne. com site. Restaurants, bars, and shops from downtown Melbourne are within one minute walking distance of the house. The beach is 4 minutes away by car.

This is a charming old house. We have restored, beautified and improved many aspects of the house including AC, heating, bathrooms, etc. however it is almost 100 years old. Details like old wood, sometimes squeaky floors, old windows, vintage doors and knobs, etc, make this listing unique and one of a kind. Please be aware that it is a historic home not a contemporary one. The train as it passes by, is heard in most of Historic Downtown Melbourne. Although none of our guests have mentioned this to be an issue, we do want you to know the train is heard from the house.

Yes we loved our stay in Melbourne and would definitely stay again at the Vernon Place property.

The house was very well supplied with kitchen utensils for cooking at home! The appliances were new and the home was immaculate. This home will definitely be on our list to rent again on our next visit!! Thank you to Valerie and Frederico!!! Note: The location can not be beat!

Such a relaxing stay!

we absolutely had a wonderful time at the charming Barnacle House! the owners anticipate their guests' needs and then some. we had everything we'd need just waiting for us -- clean towels, toiletries, a kitchen with the necessary implements and a coziness beyond my expectations.

to top it off, we were a hop and a skip away from Downtown Melbourne. we could practically smell the waffle cones being made from the nearby ice cream shoppe💖!

Would recommend the Barnacle House to anyone planning on visiting this lovely beach town.

This house is in a great location. It is walking distance to shops and restaurants, and just a short drive to the beaches. The house had everything that we needed to make our stay worry free and enjoyable! We enjoyed it so much, we already booked another stay for 2018.

Didn't live up to expectations

The house is in walking distance to historic downtown with a good choice of bars and eateries and a short drive to the beaches, supermarkets and more restaurants than you can shake a stick at.

We were a party of 2 but the living room felt cramped with only a 2 seater sofa and a single chair and 2 smaller chairs, it's not a big room at all and the layout felt uncomfortable. Master bedroom bed was really comfy but no headboard and a massive disappointment was no TV in the bedroom, 1st rental in 25 years with no TV in a bedroom. Upstairs bedroom had no A/C and always felt stifling, wouldn't have liked that for a week.

The house is a shabby chic style which fits in with the building and some nice and expensive touches. Spent most of the time on the front porch as we didn't really enjoy the back garden, just felt unfinished. Never used the BBQ as it looked like it needed a good clean, which is another thing, dearest clean, out of 4 rentals we're staying in, for such a small house, dearer than a 5 bedroom villa with a pool.

Most annoying thing and a real off-putter is the noise from the trains. Yes it says that you'll hear the trains but what the description doesn't say is that the house is less than a mile from a crossing so the trains sound their horns and not just the once, we counted 8-10 times. It's also a 24 hr line with about 4 trains during the night so really bad sleeps for the whole week.

Owner's Response: Dear Robert: We are sorry the cottage did not live up to your expectations. We are not surprised this is the case when we read other reviews you had given other properties who have very high ratings by every other guest. The house, as stated in the description, is a charming 100 year old restored and updated historic cottage. It clearly states that if you are looking for a unique experience of Old Florida, this is the listing for you. Smaller spaces is how everything was built back then. We never advertised this home to have vast open modern spaces. Yes, the pictures of the living room in the listing show a 2 seater sofa, 1 arm chair and 2 side chairs, which is designed and meant for the amount of guests this listing accommodates. The master bedroom has a Sealy Posturepedic bed, which is one of the best in the industry, so yes, it is very comfortable as you say. We have also photographed the room, which clearly shows the bed does not have a headboard as we particularly have a more minimalistic approach towards decorating. The listing also states that the cottage has one Flat Screen TV in the living room with over 300 channels and HBO. It does not state there is a TV in the bedroom. Even though we renovated the cottage about 3 years ago, we continuously add improvements and additional touches, like the 5 new tropical and unique plants you saw in pots the garden that we had just purchased at the Botanical Fest. Sorry they weren’t planted yet, but we left them in a corner so they wouldn't affect the use of the garden. All previous guests who have stayed at the house not only used the garden, but greatly enjoyed it as stated in their reviews. The grill is brand new and has only been used by 2 previous guests, and was cleaned by them as well as by us before your arrival. The bedroom upstairs does have central a/c just like the entire house. It has about twelve windows, and if you don't close all of them, then the a/c will not cool the room. Like we state in the listing, you do hear the train. We have been renting this house for more than three years and nobody has complained about the noise. Again, we are sorry this charming cottage loved by our guests and our many repeat guests did not meet your expectations. Best, Valerie and Federico
