Why sally obrien chose Washington DC

The Gowan House is an historic rowhouse in Foggy Bottom between 25th street and St. Paul's Church. The house was built in 1890 and has four floors. The apartment is about 700 square feet. We have central air conditioning and central heat and a fan is available for those who prefer to open the window. The apartment has security features and is on a safe street. The front door of the apartment is protected with two doors with deadbolt locks.

What makes this apartment unique

The location is perfect for visitors seeing the major sights in DC or for those attending meetings in downtown DC. We are located on the blue/orange/silver line metro with easy access to Dulles and Reagan Airports. We are within quick walking distance of shops, grocery stores, and restaurants. 25th Street is quiet and a nice place to walk in the evening on the way to Kennedy Center or LIsner Auditorium. We are within walking distance of the Lincoln Memorial and the Mall

Flat in historic building near GW -- clean, convenient and comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

I have stayed in the owner's other properties and I will confirm that they maintain this flat as well as the others-- this one, however, has quite a large kitchen. The space would suit up to four people, probably a family of four without cramping. Close to both Trader Joe's and Whole Foods; close to metro stop, GW, World Bank, IMF, many professional offices. If you like to watch television in your off hours, this one has splendid one. I travel for business, but even spending all day and most of the evening in offices, this property permits me comfortably to have an early breakfast, a pleasant neighborhood walk, a late dinner, and avoid the space limitations and constraints of having a room in a hotel.

Fall in DC Foggy Bottom flat

  • 3 of 5

Nice apartment with plenty of room & fantastic location. We were able to park on the street very close to the apt over the weekend for free which was great. The keyless entry was very convenient, once we got the hang of it. Sofa bed was comfortable, great TV & area for hanging out after dinner. The bath is off the master bedroom, so a little juggling when everyone was getting ready to go out. Only issue was there were only three towels in the entire apt. We managed but pretty inconvenient not having hand, face or dish towels. Sally was out of town & very responsive to text messages but unable to get us more towels.

We were able to walk to just about everyplace including Georgetown, The Mall, etc and Trade Joe's which is just down the block so we could get basic supplies for the weekend. I would recommend.

A well located, spacious apartment that is well equiped.

  • 3 of 5

The property is well located in a quiet, leafy street close to shops & the metro. It is spacious and well equipped. In this regard it accurately portrayed the internet listing.

While there was tourist information available in the apartment, one of the benefits of staying in a privately-owned apartment is the personal knowledge & recommendations of the owner. This occurred at a number of other similar apartments where we stayed on our trip but not in this instance despite the owner living in the same complex. Our only contact was when we were having an issue with the front door of the complex. Our exchange was very brief and limited to the door apart from my request that the internet was not working. Despite assurances that it would be reset, it was inoperable during our stay.

Aside from these minor issues we had an enjoyable time in Washington.

Excellent location. Nice setup for the family. Comfy bed & nice sofa beds.

  • 5 of 5

Excellent location. Nice setup for the family. Comfy bed & nice sofa beds. Loved the keyless locks. Temperature control was a bit challenging, as the bedroom & especially bathroom got really hot relative to other spaces. Nice kitchen & living room setup. Best of all, we felt it was a good value for a great location.

Nice, comfortable brownstone near Washington Circle

  • 5 of 5

My stay was excellent. Everything was just as described in the listing; the accommodations were comfortable, the downstairs flat was spacious, the location was very convenient and the hosts were responsive via email. This would be a great place for an extended stay as it has a nice kitchen and living room.

We are located in a residential enclave in downtown Washington DC. Perfect for sightseeing or business trips to the World Bank, IMF, GW University, State Department, embassies and US Institute of Peace. Our guests often bike or walk to Washington Harbor, Rock Creek Park, the Washington Mall, C&O Canal. All of the Smithsonian Museums are easily accessible by Metro or Circulator Bus, and the Textile Museum and Washingtonia Museum just a 10 minute walk. The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is a 14 minute walk (buses also available).

Because this house is in a quiet neighborhood we ask guests to refrain from loud music after 10pm.
