The cabin sits on 15 acres of private, wooded and pasture property . It is , if desired. This rustic cabin was built 25 years ago on family land by the current owner and a few of his closest friends, each a jack of their own trade. The White Pine logs were picked, sawed and hand notched. All of the cabinets and exterior doors were handcrafted out of Walnut. Rocks for the foundation and fireplace, which serve the living room and master bedroom, were gathered from the surrounding mountains. In addition, when built, the hardwood floors were pulled from the gymnasium of the high school in which the owner had attended some 18 years prior.

The Area:

Mystic Valley offers the ideal combination of total seclusion AND convenient access. Located in the historic community of Big Sandy Mush, where the land has been farmed by the same families for generations, it is just a 30 minute jaunt to the lively downtown scene. A very short distance to travel to experience the boundless diversity of Asheville.

There's so much to see and do!! For instance the new Farm Heritage Trail:

"The Farm Heritage Trail is a scenic driving and cycling route through the rural agricultural communities of Alexander, Leicester, Newfound and Sandy Mush. The public is welcome to travel the public roads of this trail and enjoy viewing the conserved family farms that are along the route. We encourage you to support the local farms who are open to the public; they are designated with “Farm Stop” signage and hours listed on the website. The Farm Heritage Trail will have an ongoing calendar of events, hikes, educational opportunities and fun activities throughout the year. Visit, connect with and experience our farms."

Also close by is Randall Glen Farm located just a few miles up the road. The farm boast 100 acres and offers horseback riding, gem mining, as well as other activities. Matt Jones Pottery, Friendswood Brooms, Sandy Hollar and several other organic farms are very close by as well. Enjoy wine tasting and 360 degree mountain views at the family owned and operated vineyard, Addison Farms, only six miles down the road.

The communities of Big Sandy Mush and Leicester also hosts a variety of yearly events such as the Leicester Studio, ASAP Farm and Cycle to Farm Tours. And for the outdoorsman…the hiking, biking and fishing possibilities are endless. The valley itself has actually been described as resembling the Swiss Alps! One of the most appreciated and talked about mountains in the area, Doggett Mountain, is practically in your backyard.

In addition, you will be in close proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail. Finally, whether it be to soak your sore muscles, or just to relax, be sure to visit Hot Springs, located just 30 miles north of Mystic Valley. Here you will find Jacuzzi tubs supplied with a continuous flow of world famous natural hot mineral water. And Transylvania County, just an hour away, has 250 waterfalls within just a few miles of each other.

The city of Asheville provides a vast array of cultural entertainment as well including, but definitely not limited to: museums, galleries, concerts, festivals, farmer/tailgate markets, breweries, nightlife and eclectic dining. “Downtown Asheville is a vibrant, exciting place to eat, with open-air cafes and restaurants of every type.”

About Owner/ Manager

My father and I absolutely love our Mystic Valley and everything the country, as well as the city of Asheville, has to offer. And we want to share our amazing place with you!

My father was born here and has refused to leave this amazing area. However, I decided to explore other locations including New York City, Wilmington and Charlotte. After living elsewhere for 13 years, I decided it was time to head back home!

Dad is now retired and I am a Professional Behavior Responder for the ASPCA Field Investigations & Response Team.

We enjoyed our stay at Mystic Valley. The home was clean, cozy and rustic. Sitting on the porch was our favorite spot to enjoy God’s glory! Our time together brought us closer as a family!

Beautiful Cabin in the Valley

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect. Quiet and peaceful tucked away in the valley. Perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Cat and Joey met us for check in and provided everything we needed. The cabin was clean and well supplied with linens, towels, and firewood for the beautiful stone fireplace. Cat even left a tennis ball for our dog, which I think ended up her favorite part of the weekend. The front porch had amazing views. I loved sitting out there in the morning with my coffee listening to the cows chat across the farms. The cabin is within 1/2 hour of Asheville and about an hour from the Blue Ridge Parkway which makes it perfect for day and nighttime activities. The roads are a bit steep coming in and out of the valley, which made for interesting driving for my husband and beautiful views for me. Thank you Cat and Joey for sharing this wonderful cabin with us.
