LIVING ON A HOUSEBOAT
Experience a unique way of life, the freedom of your own apartment, privacy and independence, the typical Amsterdam charm of living on the water. Fall asleep at night to the gentle rocking of the boat, wake up the next morning to the sound of ducks and swans swimming past.
The boat is perfectly located on a small canal right between the old city centre and trendy neighbourhood ‘De Pijp’ in Amsterdam. Just around the corner from the boat is the river Amstel, the river the city took its name from.
Recently the houseboat was completely renovated and modernised. It measures a total of 70 m2, has an elegant modern design, luxurious with some antique touches. It has large windows all around, it is a very bright place, like a bungalow on the water. It has a spacious living room with a fully fitted kitchen, two double bedrooms with queen sized (box spring) beds and a private sink/shower each. And maybe best of all, right on the water there’s a nice outside terrace from which to enjoy the ships passing by or watch the sunset over the water. The boat is ideally located for sunshine all day long, from a balcony breakfast to a sunset dinner.
Modern kitchen with fridge/freezer, oven/microwave, dishwasher, toaster, coffee machine. Central heating in all rooms. Flatscreen TV, DVD player, soundsystem, wifi/highspeed internet. Two Bathrooms with private shower/sink, hairdryer. Separate toilet. Safety deposit box. Washing machine and dryer. Towels and linen (Egyptian cotton) provided.
This boat is located on the edge of the canal ring area, the 17th century historical center of Amsterdam (UNESCO World Heritage Listing). This is the area into which you can endlessly wander, discovering historical gabled houses and beautiful hidden courtyards. Cutting all the way through the canal ring is the Utrechtsestraat, a cozy and classy shopping street with great boutiques and a number of excellent bars and restaurants.
To the south the boat edges on ‘De Pijp’, formerly a 19th century working class area but with a recent influx of students and artists this area is often nicknamed the Dutch Quartier Latin with endless shopping, numerous bars and dozens of great restaurants. Cutting right through this area is the Albert Cuyp Market, Amsterdam’s largest open-air food market.
Public transportation is just a few steps away and takes you in a few minutes to the Museum area (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum) or across all canals all the way to Central Station.

I am a free lance worker in the television industry. I love to travel and have tried to make this houseboat a perfect getaway in a unique city.
Harm Jan Kinkhorst purchased this house boat in 2011
Living on the water is probably the best way of spending your holiday in Amsterdam. Spend the evenings on the terrace, enjoy the swans and ducks in the morning. In short: live like a local in Amsterdam!
We truly enjoyed our stay at the houseboat. The house is very modern and comfortable, with each bedroom having its own shower. It is also very well furnished with us needing nothing extra during our stay. There was a grocery store nearby and it was just minutes by bicycle to the museums and Heineken complex, though nothing was particularly far. Bicycle rental was only a few blocks away, which I highly recommend as parking is very expensive (we parked at the harbor which was reasonably priced). Dealings with the owner were effortless and we arrived early as the caretaker was just wrapping up the cleaning. She gave us great tips for our stay there. Keukenhof gardens, a 30 minute drive away, is also worth a visit.
One item of note is that the canal is a favorite for the tour boats since it is right next to the Dutch Central bank (supposedly there are tens of billions of euros worth of gold bar in its underground vault), so when you are on the deck you will sometimes have tourists taking pictures of you. We thought it was fun and usually just waved back. In the evening the canal is hardly used.
Thanks for the wonderful time!
Just returned from a 5-night stay. We'd a grand time in Amsterdam. The houseboat is well equipped, centrally located and on a quiet street. There were only 2 of us. We used the small instead of the large bedroom and the bed is kind of soft.
Beautiful houseboat close to everything. I could have stayed forever!!!! We enjoyed our time here as much as touring Amsterdam.
What a amazing find! Carolien, Jan Peter, and Harm Jan were exceptional hosts. The house boat is perfectly located on a quiet canal, yet easy to get to everything. Clean, charming, and comfortable. Loved every second of our stay and will be back. Thank you for everything.
We loved the houseboat. It is spacious and clean and in a great location for exploring Amsterdam.
Perfect ending to a Viking Cruise down the Rhine. Houseboat is perfectly located within walking distance to all the must do stops in town - and direct access to the Central Station for out of town excursions. Accommodations within the houseboat quite roomy and very window lit - Using the Digital Concierge App provided by the owner made the directions easy to get to along with most of the good restaurants around. Having the supermaket a block away another plus.
And, the hospitality offered by Carolein with quick response to any questions superb.
