Beautiful, clean, spacious home, ideally situated

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing three night stay in this fabulous home. It truly is well situated, not too far from Woodstock or Saugerties and is certainly picturesque with the mountain view in the back yard. My kids are having a hard time leaving this place as it is very kid friendly but also has the necessary creature comforts for adults. I think I can safely say our family has fallen in love with this lovely Catskills gem and certainly hope to be back.

Great escape from the city!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this property with a few girlfriends and we had a great time. The house was clean and well maintained, the property owner was very responsive and it was super relaxing! The house is conveniently located near town for quick access to restaurants, shops and grocery stores. It's also very quiet and easy to get to for a quick weekend escape from NYC.

Never again

We are very disappointed with the accommodations at this home. I know Robyn the manager will have a a cute response to this comment and everything that anybody says negative about this home or any home she manages. Frankly this is the worst accommodations and I have ever found in rental. I have rented homes in the past and know exactly what these homes should look like. When arriving I immediately saw many items from other previous tenants or the current owner had been left strewn around in the home including food in the frigerator/cabinets and clothing in the drawers slippers beside the beds etc.. Did the owner just leave, was the bedding washed? Very aquward, definitely not a rental quality setup. There was a table full of started alchoholic beverages in the kitchen. Besides for the fact the front door screen completely fell off upon entering the house and for his visit. Robin response after sending her an email was that she didnt see the fallen screen door even though she inspected the home earlier that day, I wonder how she will explain that? I had no choice but to leave soon after arriving. My kids and wife where nauseous from the way the home was left and I couldn't convince them to stay. I asked for a full refund and unfortunately Robyn and the owner were not smart enough to do so. Instead Robyn refunded me one night instead of refunding me both nights. I am now stuck with close to a $600 bill and didn't even stay there for more than an hour. I find the Management's demeanor and response to my claim as being very unprofessional and unhelpful, always a cute response, no accountability for the way the home was left. I strongly recommend thinking very hard before staying in this home. I have much more to comment but I think the way they left the home and the way the manager dealt with me tells it all.

Owner's Response: This situation was the most bizarre I’ve encountered as a property manager. There is nothing in this review that is accurate. I’ll respond to each point. ITEMS STREWN ABOUT: Nothing was strewn anywhere. This house is extremely neat and clutter-free. Each bedroom has two large, double-door closets. The owners use one in each bedroom; the other is empty and available for renters’ use. CLEANLINESS: All floors in this house are white. Bedding is white. The cleaner had been there one day prior, and the house was spotless—with all that white, it has to be! Questioning whether the linens were clean? You bet! I saw them go into the washing machine. They were clean and fresh, as always. FOOD IN THE FRIDGE: Yes, condiments like ketchup, mayo, a jar of pickles. The owners use this home often, and they leave these things. Guests are welcome to use them, too, or buy their own. ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN THE KITCHEN: There are bottles of liquor and aperitif on a small table in the kitchen, which the Welcome Book explains guests may enjoy if they choose. SCREEN DOOR FALLING OFF THE FRAME: No, the screen was torn from the frame; the door was completely attached. And when I was there three hours earlier, the screen wasn't torn. What happened between that time and the departure of Mr. Schwab’s party, I don’t know, but had I seen the screen in that state, I would have called the handyman immediately, and it would have been remedied right away. That door is now glass. PARTIAL REFUND: I spoke with HomeAway immediately when Mr. Schwab said he was leaving. According to our stated policy, we weren’t required to give any refund at all. However, as a courtesy, we did refund a night’s rent to Mr. Schwab. MY CUTE ANSWERS: Some complaints that Mrs. Schwab made on the telephone that weren’t addressed here were: 1) It was too hot on the top floor—I responded that even though the house has central air, the top floor can be hot, which is why we have a window unit in that bedroom. 2) It was too cold downstairs—To that I responded that the thermostat would allow them to set the temperature anywhere they wanted. 3) The pool cover wasn’t appealing—We use a solar blanket, so there can be some leaves on it—the house is in the woods, as depicted in the photographs. The solar blanket keeps the heat in and the leaves and creatures out of the pool, which is a good thing. You just take it off. I don’t believe that these answers are at all “cute,” but they are accurate and truthful. ROBYN

Really enjoyed our stay . Pool , fire pit and pool table were in great shape . Owners were great to deal with too . The house was a little on the plain side with no curtains on windows or pictures on walls but no big deal . Would go again
