Best Ski & Vacation Cabin in Canyon below Snowbird/Alta Resorts!!

Bedrooms 3
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms/7 beds total, 2 Baths on the river in Wasatch Natl. Forest

Wow: Location, Location, Location!!!

Ideally situated just below Snowbird and Alta in the Wasatch National Forest.

This secluded and serene cabin has Little Cottonwood Creek in its backyard with granite cliffs, rocky crags, pristine forest and even valley views from the three decks, five skylights and many windows.

Approximately eight minutes from world class Snowbird and Alta ski resorts you never get stuck in hours of traffic at the mouth of the canyon because you are already in the canyon-yet grocery stores, nightlife and restaurants are only ten minutes down Little Cottonwood road. (On snowy days, take advantage of owners resident pass which grants you access in and out of closed canyon).

This one of a kind three story hundred year old pioneer cabin has more than doubled in size with a 1000 square foot addition. The original section has been beautifully restored and the rest of the home totally renovated throughout.

No detail has been overlooked and every amenity has been thoughtfully provided for your care-free stay.

Cabin still has original outside stone cooking stove but now features totally decked out gourmet twenty foot long indoor kitchen with fireplace and gathering area! The all granite counters, top of the line stainless steel appliances and a built-in eight foot granite eating island give real meaning to the joy of cooking!

After a great day on the slopes or playing outdoors relax in the two person jacuzzi or the soaking tub upstairs. Then enjoy dinner and a crackling fire. Finally, take in a movie before bed (over fifty new title dvd's to choose from) in the spacious living room (seriously, the couch is 17 feet long) with the 60 inch TV and surround sound theater system.

Wood floors and wood ceilings abound in this gorgeous cabin and the bedrooms are huge and meticulously decorated. One of the bedrooms upstairs even has a built in 'mini cabin' for the kids to play in while adults enjoy free time!

It is a unique and memorable experience to stay in a forest, breathe fresh mountain air, drink pure Rocky Mountain spring water, relax in complete luxury with all the comforts of home AND ski the greatest snow on earth all in one vacation! Hope to see you here!

About debbie

We are a husband/wife construction team and the parents of five beautiful children ages five to eighteen..

My husband (general contractor) and I (historic renovator and design specialist) have been building and restoring properties together for thirteen years. We have property on the National Historic Register and take a great deal of pride in our work. Please see VRBO #271573 for our last project. Our work together is top-notch as we are both perfectionists and artists at our craft. This is our life-love and we hope to share it with you!

debbie purchased this cabin in 2011

Why debbie chose Sandy

We are entirely smitten by this canyon and its pristine and total beauty during all four seasons. We are avid skiers (all seven of us ski together weekly) and Snowbird and Alta Resorts provide the best skiing we have ever experienced. We will most certainly retire here when our children grow up. Thus, when this renovation project came up, we just couldn't say no!

What makes this cabin unique

Best of both worlds!

We love being in nature and yet being close to everything the city has to offer too!

This is a great get away and a peaceful respite from the hectic bustle of everyday life. Our children laugh, play, swing, catch lizards and we go on walks and investigate nature up here. We cook great meals and spend quality family time together playing games, watching movies and just hanging out. What more could you ask for!?!

Nice place in canyon. Roads a bit challenging and if snowing would be tough if you do not have right vehicle. No issues for us as weather quite warm. Stream in backyard is really nice. House has everything you need to be comfortable. Would rent again.

Charming cabin with tons of character

  • 4 of 5

This cabin is tucked into a tiny community just down the canyon from Snowbird. It is a truly unique property with a ton of character. It is very comfortable and we really enjoyed our visit. Would definitely rent it again if we are in the area.

A place to get away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here over the Christmas holiday. The cabin is beautiful and the kitchen has everything you could want to cook all your meals.

The beds are very comfortable and there are many. There is a play house in the upstairs room that is adorable. The drives to the ski areas were short. As other reviews mentioned you will need 4 wheel drive when the snow is heavy. Salt Lake City is only 10-15 min away.

We had a wonderful time playing in the snow.

The only negatives we found are the TV and Net. The channels are few and there is no Netflix. The owner did try to get Netflix to work but was unable. The internet has no security so when my son had to do any work he had to drive to town to get a signal. I did see that the internet had previously had a password so maybe it had been changed and that was the problem ….

The owners were very nice and answered all of our questions.

Overall it is a beautiful property. It is a perfect place to totally get away from it all.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind review. We were unaware that there was a problem with Netflix until your stay. We immediately called Rise Broadband and they traced it to their receiver. We changed our service to a new company and upgraded our internet to fives times the previous speed as well. Now, Netflix works great and the internet is secure! Thank again, you have a beautiful family and we loved having you!

Perfect location, Beautiful surroundings, Spacious cabin, Attentive owners and the BEST snow!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six, including four tough-to-impress, older/grown kids spent mid-March at the cabin and EVERYONE had a wonderful experience!

We had great communication with the owners from the beginning and, once there, they quickly answered every single (silly) question we asked.

We landed at SLC late at night and were able to find the cabin and get in within 25-30 minutes.

DO heed the 4x4 rental warning. We needed it on the last two days when we went overnight from highs of 66F to 12" of snow!

The cabin itself is spacious; The owners threw in many nice details - different coffees, teas, soaps, bath salts, etc. The kitchen has every possible small appliance and cooking tool you could need - rice cooker, griddle, great pans, baking sheets, pyrex-es, etc.

The long, beautiful kitchen counter and huge sofa allowed us to enjoy dinners and the ensuing lazy evenings together, after our tiring ski days. There's a nice fireplace inside and a great firepit area outside the front door. There's also a really nice creek not 50 steps from the cabin, which kept the kids entertained for hours with trout sightings and cool pools to wade into (yes, in March! :).

Within a mile's walk, there is a popular rock climbing area (The Gate, The Thumb, etc.) that can keep you busy in good weather. Also, on our day off from skiing, we visited Lisa Falls and Hidden Falls - both are mild, short hikes for kids (or lazy/sore-legged teenagers ;)

For other Utah first-timers - There are two main roads that lead you to the skiing areas - One to Snowbird and Alta (6 miles from cabin!). The other to Solitude and Brighton (about 20 minutes).

Being that close to the ski areas not only made it quick and convenient to ski but also kept you in the mountain environment as opposed to a hotel in the nearby town. (~11 miles to the 24-hour WalMart)

Additional random info:

Although I am partial to Google Maps, use Apple Maps to map the cabin address. G-Maps did NOT find the address!

For ski lift tickets, we went for a Super Pass which let us ski any of the four ski areas mentioned.

We rented from Creekside Sports Rental (8a-5p) at the base of Snowbird's Entry #1. (again, just 6 miles away!).

Creekside gave us a 40% discount with the SuperPass. Try to get the SuperPasses first - Creekside needs the actual pass (not your printed proof) to give you the discount.

Brighton has night skiing. (not Wednesdays, I think.)

The SuperPass lets you ski Brighton and Solitude on the same day.
