Overview

About the property

3 Bdr, 3FB, private, waterfront home with over 300' of shoreline

The Sweet Retreat is a very private, 3 bedroom, 3 full bath home with a gradually sloping lot to 312' of waterfront and a bonus, cozy(small) beach area. This beautifully decorated home includes a large living area with a gas fireplace, a large flat screen TV, and plenty of seating for friends and family. A large dining area has a custom dining table made from reclaimed lumber from a pre-1880 barn and is large enough to seat 10 adults comfortably with a combination of benchs and chairs. A fully stocked, updated kitchen features stainless appliances, granite countertops and a custom, natural slab wood bar. All three comfy bedrooms include new mattresses. The master suite, with a gorgeous lake view includes a large master bath with a walk--in shower and double bowl, granite-topped vanity. A full size washer and dryer is located on the main floor. The large sunroom finishes off the main living area with a sectional sofa and incredible views of both the lake and woods.

Outside is where you will want to stay after you step out onto the deck that runs the width of the home, complete with a dining area and plenty of seating. You will have plenty of peace and quiet as you enjoy the wide water view. A large open dock is just a short walk down a gradual slope. Deep water will make it easy to tie your boat up to the floater. And you don't have to be worried about boat traffic being too close to swimming areas. Just a few steps away is a fire pit just waiting to make both memories and s'mores. You can also enjoy a game of cornhole on a nice flat area of lawn. There is plenty of parking and an area to park a boat trailer.

This is an extremely private location at the end of a cul-de-sac with wide water views. The Sweet Retreat won't disappoint you!

About Mary Lou Holtzman

Mary Lou and her husband purchased the Sweet Retreat in December 2014 as a family retreat and rental property. We currently live in Elizabethtown, PA where both work for a chocolate company. We love being able to take long weekend trips down to the lake to enjoy all that the area has to offer. We look forward to making memories with family and friends and wish the same for all who stay at the Sweet Retreat.

Why Mary Lou Holtzman chose Smith Mountain Lake Area

We chose this property for the spectacular water view. Just step out onto the deck and you can see why we fell in love with and ultimately purchased this property. The neighborhood is quiet and very private.

What makes this house unique

The Sweet Retreat is located at a more peaceful end of the lake in a large open cove. However, it won't take you long to reach the big open water if that is what you like. Everything you need is just a short drive away - groceries, entertainment, restaurants.

Fabulous, beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from spending a week in this beautiful home and we are already talking about returning to this house next year!

The house is beautifully decorated, well maintained, and has all new appliances. The beds were very comfortable...as well as the couches in both the living room and sun room. The deck and dock were well maintained (not splintered like many rental homes). The kitchen is well stocked with all the necessities. The master bath was fantastic (with an awesome shower that I now want in my own home!).

My daughters and I loved using the kayaks (thank you for this perk!). We floated in the lake every day and rented a boat from Parkway Marina for a day (easy/convenient to get to). The location to White House Store is perfect for that quick run for ice or milk.

I appreciated the fact that even though this is a pet friendly house, it did not feel it. We have stayed at houses in the past where carpets and couches were in such bad shape I had to take it upon myself to clean up. It is noted in the contract to keep wet dogs outside and off furniture and we did. As much as I love my 4 legged baby, I appreciate this extra effort to stay in a beautiful, clean home.

Our only issue has nothing to do with the house or owners - the internet at SML is seriously lacking. We had difficulty surfing the internet and had received internet usage warnings by Monday (we arrived Saturday). Again, this is not something in the owners control or a negative. Just a warning that if you have teenagers (as I do) that watch a lot of Netflix and YouTube, you need to have an alternative plan. We were aware of this from our past experience with SML rentals. We did have cell service which is also something that is spotty around the lake.

Only one other comment that might be a negative to some is that there is only one TV in the sun room. None of the bedrooms are equipped with TVs. We survived just fine - we took the time to unplug and relax!

This is a wonderful home, on an incredible piece of property. I LOVED the family of deer that live there and walk around the property. It's also noteworthy the house is located near a golf course so we took great walks every day. It's a quiet neighborhood and we appreciated the serenity.

Bar far, the best house we have stayed in at SML (and this was our 5th visit to the area!).

Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing vacation.

Our family very much enjoyed our week at the house at Smith Mountain Lake.

  • 5 of 5

The property is on a gorgeous private point on the lake. The house is a very nice three bedroom house with a deck running the full length on the lake side of the house. There is also a pier and dock with which we took advantage as well as two kayaks. We would love to go back again.

Fabulous home on point!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4th of July week at the Sweet Retreat, by far the most comfortable home we have rented over many years on SML. Working with the owner is much better and more responsive vs renting through a management company.

House was fresh, updated and charming. Beds super comfortable, kitchen well appointed. Deck table and chairs were perfect for dining. The air hockey table in the great room was great for the stormy nights.

Dock was spacious and well shaded with our pop up canopy. Only caveat is if you are not proficient with docking, and there is a lot of boat activity in the cove it can be challenging. The whips were much appreciated!

The deer traffic was fun to watch!

We will definitely return!

Simply amazing

  • 5 of 5

House was wonderful. The house is large enough for family to spread out and not be right on top of one another. The house is beautiful inside and out the access to the dock was a great pleasure to be able to get my girls from the house to the dock in their wheelchairs was fairly easy to manuver through the yard to get the girls down from the hous and onto the dock and onto the boat. it was a great home very beautiful inside and out the owner was very friendly and called the first night to make sure everything was okay and even left a little treat for the family to have smores. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Now just be prepared if storms roll through you will not have tv for a while seemed like the dish company had a week signal in the area but there was so much to do it was never a problem. Kitchen is well stocked, but I would recommend if you need big pans might pack your own there was only two large ones once we found them tucked under the stove. But my family truly enjoyed ourselves and hated to leave. We are planning to return within the year for another stay.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words! I always appreciate hearing what items might be helpful for future guests. I will have to get a few more large pots for the kitchen. I will say that sometimes finding things in the kitchen is a bit of a hide and seek game. Everyone has their own idea of where things should be stored! And yes, the satellite service can be sketchy with weather. We are hoping to trim some trees to see if that will help in the future. Looking forward to seeing you all again in the future!

Beautiful, quiet, excellent lake front home

  • 5 of 5

This house is just like being in your own home. Nestled in the back of a quiet neighborhood, this takes a relaxing vacation to a whole new level. The whole house is so open and inviting. The back porch and dock is where we spent of our time enjoying the exceptional views. The kitchen was so big! I loved being able to stay in and cook for the crowd. The master bath was also excellent. The shower itself was so beutiful and big. And there was plenty of room for hubby and I to both get ready without getting in each others way. We brought our boat with us and there was plenty of room for it down at the dock. My only downfall is that some other boaters drive a little too fast and a little too close. Besides it raining for a few days during our stay, this vacation was great! Will definitely be staying here again. The owner is very nice and gets back to you via email very quickly. She also called on our first day just to be sure everything was as aspected...and it was so much more. Would highly recommend!!!!
