The Sweet Retreat is a very private, totally renovated 3 bedroom, 3 full bath home with a gradually sloping lot to 312' of waterfront and a bonus, cozy(small) beach area. This beautifully decorated home includes a large living area with a gas fireplace, a large flat screen TV, and plenty of seating for friends and family. A large dining area has a custom dining table made from reclaimed lumber from a pre-1880 barn and is large enough to seat 10 adults comfortably with a combination of benchs and chairs. A fully stocked, updated kitchen features stainless appliances, granite countertops and a custom, natural slab wood bar. All three comfy bedrooms include new mattresses. The master suite, with a gorgeous lake view includes a large master bath with a walk--in shower and double bowl, granite-topped vanity. A full size washer and dryer is located on the main floor. The large sunroom finishes off the main living area with a sleeper sofa and and incredible views of both the lake and woods.
Outside is where you will want to stay after you step out onto the deck that runs the width of the home, complete with a dining area and plenty of seating. You will have plenty of peace and quiet as you enjoy the wide water view. A large open dock is just a short walk down a gradual slope. Deep water will make it easy to tie your boat up to the floater. And you don't have to be worried about boat traffic being too close to swimming areas. Just a few steps away is a fire pit just waiting to make both memories and s'mores. You can also enjoy a game of cornhole on a nice flat area of lawn. There is plenty of parking and an area to park a boat trailer.
This is an extremely private location at the end of a cul-de-sac with wide water views. The Sweet Retreat won't disappoint you!
Mary Lou and her husband purchased the Sweet Retreat in December 2014 as a family retreat and rental property. We currently live in Elizabethtown, PA where both work for a chocolate company. We love being able to take long weekend trips down to the lake to enjoy all that the area has to offer. We look forward to making memories with family and friends and wish the same for all who stay at the Sweet Retreat.
Mary Lou Holtzman purchased this house in 2014
We chose this property for the spectacular water view. Just step out onto the deck and you can see why we fell in love with and ultimately purchased this property. The neighborhood is quiet and very private.
The Sweet Retreat is located at a more peaceful end of the lake in a large open cove. However, it won't take you long to reach the big open water if that is what you like. Everything you need is just a short drive away - groceries, entertainment, restaurants.
My family had a great stay at the house. It was very clean and nicely furnished. Mary Lou was lovely and very easy to work with.
We took at trip for our friends wedding and made a mini vacation out of it. From the start Mary Lou was so helpful, responsive and knowledgeable about the lake and the house. The house is immaculate and clean. When we arrive there was even a welcome bag for us. A Very nice touch. The house has all the kitchen items one would need including a outdoor Weber grill. We brought our 2016 Yamaha AR 240 and the whips on the dock work out perfectly. The house has lawn games and board games in case you forget yours. We loved that!! There was nothing over the 4 nights we were there that I wished they had something. We rent house 2-3 times per year and this was definitely hands down the best house and owner we have had the pleasure of dealing with in the last 6 years. We had such a wonderful trip that we will be back next year for vacation!
Despite the rainy weather we had the weekend we stayed at Sweet Retreat, we enjoyed it very much. The house is comfortable, well designed and decorated and has everything you need to have a pleasant and relaxing time. View of the lake from the patio is beautiful, and the kitchen is very well equipped. Mary Lou called us to check if we need anything or have any questions, even though she was busy with her son's wedding! That tells a lot. Thanks again Mary Lou for sharing your beautiful home with us.
We loved our visit to "Sweet Retreat at Smith Mountain Lake." The lake is beautiful, the water pristine and your location is perfect. We walked in the morning and golfed in the afternoon, spent time in the water with our dogs and sat on the deck each evening with our glass of wine. Truely a wonderful vacation. Thanks for sharing your lovely home.
My family had a wonderful time at Sweet Retreat. The home was beautiful and spacious. We spent most of our time on the dock enjoying the sunshine, watching people on the lake and spotting the deer that would come out daily to graze on the lawns. I will definitely stay at the Sweet Retreat in the future.
I just can't say enough about the Sweet Retreat. The house is so welcoming and cozy. The décor and open floor plan is great. The house is secluded and quiet. The large back deck has a gate so our beagle was able to run around and we didn't have to worry about him getting loose and chasing the deer! We absolutely fell in love with the house, the lake, and the area in general. What a beautiful and relaxing getaway! We went to Mitchell's Marina and rented a boat for the day. It is the closest one to the house and if you don't have your own boat, I highly recommend doing that for at least one day. The lake is gorgeous. Mary Lou was awesome to deal with. She really made sure that everything was the way it should be and that we had everything we needed. She also made sure we had a pack and play for the grandbaby. We will definitely be back next year and I highly recommend!
