Bedrooms 3
Space 2,700 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

3 bedroom, 2.5 bath with Mountain Views

We are calling it our Alaska cabin. Its quiet, cozy, great views, and a 5 minute drive to Eagle River for groceries or a great cup of coffee at Jitters (our local spot). There is great hiking and views-for-miles just minutes up the road from our house to the top of Skyline Dr. at Mt. Baldy (alaskahikesearch.com/hikes/mt-baldy/#.VR3ZjmbglcQ). Or just sit on the deck with an evening glass of wine and look out across at Hiland Mountain or on a clear day north to see Denali. Eagle River is a great spot for day trips north to Palmer, Hatcher's Pass, Big Lake, or south to Anchorage, Artic Valley, Alyeska, and the Kenai Peninsula.

Our home has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and is set up with 3 king beds, a great open floor plan, and easy flat driveway for any car, or even parking an RV.

About Kelly OConnor

I moved to Alaska in 1969, lived, worked and raised 4 kids there in Eagle River for 30 years. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii now with my 2 horses and I enjoy getting back to Eagle River to see friends and family as often as I can. This Alaska home has been a dream for us (the kids and grandkids) for several years and we finally found the perfect home in a great location.

Kelly OConnor purchased this house in 2014

Why Kelly OConnor chose Anchorage

Our family of 6 grew up just down the road in the 70s and 80s and while the kids (and their grandkids) have moved to different parts of the 'lower 48', we have been wanting a place to come back to you and keep ourselves connected to Alaska, so we have finally found this family home. We hope you enjoy as much as we do.

Perfect Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here last week. It was the perfect spot for our family. We had 6 people - my husband and I and our 4 (25ish) children. We loved the family room. It was wide open and made for families that wanted to spend time together. We saw a family of moose in the back yard and a bear about 500 yards down the drive. The town was very quaint and worked out well for our needs. We planned our excursions around eagle river and it was great. We went to Talkneetna one way and all the way to Seward the other way. We always ended up at this comfortable, family friendly home. Thank you for making our family vacation perfect.

A Large Family & A Perfect House Made This An Awesome Family Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

My wife & I, 5 of our 6 children, 2 of their spouses, and our 4 grandchildren vacationed in Alaska for 2 weeks. We were blessed to be able to all stay in this wonderful Eagle River home with amazing owners!

Fresh flowers throughout the house and a large danish treat greeted us upon our arrival. The house overlooks Eagle River and provides a beautiful view of Anchorage and the Knik Arm. The house was well furnished throughout. The upstairs "loft" provided a quiet space with a beautiful view for my wife to enjoy her morning coffee. During the day this same "loft" provided a small play area for the kids to enjoy. The living room and large kitchen provided an awesome gathering place for the entire family. The kitchen was well appointed and allowed me to cook breakfast and dinner for the entire family several times during our vacation. The large wooden table in front of a wall of large windows provided a beautiful setting for the family to eat together and to work numerous puzzles together. The owners provided numerous games and puzzles which my family absolutely loved. The downstairs bedrooms and bathrooms were well appointed, roomy, and comfortable.

The multiple decks were perfect for enjoying the peaceful sounds of the surrounding woods. We loved sitting on the top deck and enjoying the view. The top deck also provided an excellent view of a momma moose and her two calves that "lived" about 20 feet behind the house for 2 days.

This Eagle River house is perfectly situated for adventures in all directions. Only about 1 mile from the house is the Mount Baldy trailhead. We hiked Mount Baldy multiple times. We hiked numerous trails at the Eagle River Nature Center (about 15 minutes from the house) where we saw 8 bears. The Thunderbird Falls hike (about 15 minutes from the house) was gorgeous. Palmer and Wasilla are only about a 30 minute drive from the house. We visited the Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla and the Musk Ox Farm, the National Tsunami Warning Center, and the Reindeer Farm in Palmer. Anchorage is only about 20 minutes from the house and we visited numerous places there. The Alyeska Resort in Girdwood (don't miss the Winner Creek hand tram hike) is only 45 minutes further and Whittier (where we took a fantastic nature / glacier viewing cruise) is only 30 minutes beyond Girdwood. We also toured Iditarod Champion Mitch Seavey's dog kennels in Seward.

We highly recommend this house for your Alaska vacation!!

Truly Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this outstanding vacation rental for a month (Jan-Feb, 2017) and were totally impressed with the comfortable at home feeling. The views were spectacular even though it was the dead of Winter. The home, to include the garage were always comfortably warm though we hit some -16 degree nights. Molly and Kyle, who care for the home, were warm, and attentive to our comfort both in outstanding prep and during our stay. We especially appreciated the great job in managing the deepest snow they had experienced in 4 years. The large drive was always clear. Also where many homes on Mt. Baldy have steep drives, Eagle River Mountain Retreat's drive is easily accessible even in the worst weather.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable, especially the master bedroom.

Though we did not sit outside on the expansive decks, it is obviously in the summer they will be the place to linger. Suggestion: Bring your best camera and lenses.

Perhaps the greatest endorsement we could share is this will be our first choice when we go back.

GO for this one!

Winter wonderland!!!! Great place for family gathering!

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful experience we had at this beautiful house!

The views of the snow, trees and mountains were spectacular!!! The bedrooms were large and comfy. The beds were so comfortable and had nice sheets on them. The washer/dryer came in handy as well! The den is set up for a perfect place for family cooking and eating. There was plenty of room for all. The gas logs added a cozy family feeling. The owners were kind and helpful. Entry and obtaining keys was easy. The house was easy to maintain a warm temperature throughout the house. The owner answered all questions quickly. They left some yummy doughnuts, which the grands particularly enjoyed!!!

I would highly recommend this awesome house to all. We traveled from NC to visit our Eagle River family which include our daughter, her husband, and their 3 children. Stella (6 years old) cried when she realized it was our last day of our time there!!!

Can't wait to return!!!!

Great Place!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there as a group of 7 and simply loved the house and the location. Its about 30 minutes from Anchorage, which is close enough if you want to visit a bar, but far enough where you can still get the "Alaska" experience. The house came equipped with basically everything you need including pots and pans, laundry, hair dryer, games etc. It was also set up in a very clever way with the living area upstairs and the bedrooms being located downstairs for more privacy. We simply loved the stunning view from diningroom/living room and the large deck. We highly recommend going for a hike on Mt. Baldy. The trail starts just up the road the house is located at. Overall this was a great place to stay, whether you just wanted to relax and enjoy the scenery, go on a mountain adventure or party in the bars in the city.

Great Family Trip

  • 5 of 5

We loved the house and the view. This was a very nice quite location and it accommodated our large group of 9 perfectly. We had 2 small children in the group an having the bedrooms down stairs was great. The parents were able to take them down stairs to rest while everyone else stayed up. The house was clean and homey. It was our first vacation rental and it made us love them. It was great to feel like you were coming come after a days outing instead of feeling out of place in a hotel room. They were even kind enough to let us have a potluck barbecue with the rest of the group that traveled with us, 18 people over for dinner. The deck was perfect for this giving us no worries about the inside getting dirty for extra people visiting. It was awesome to be able to get all of us together for a family style barbecue after our moms memorial. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel this would not be the case, the appliance were dated, but who cares they worked and were clean. If you are looking for a great home that is clean, maintained and with comfy beds for all you will find it here. We loved having 3 king beds and 3 bathrooms.
