Description

Photos and Description of this 4 bedroom holiday cabin in Hopkinton

4 Bedrooms, 2 Full Baths, Sleeps 8

This newly remodeled lakefront home, which sleeps 8, offers an idyllic, private setting on scenic and pristine, Blake Falls Reservoir. The setting is one of the most peaceful you will find anywhere within the Adirondack Park and offers a level, sandy waterfront where family and friends can enjoy swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, campfires and spectacular sunsets.

The 710 acre lake is quiet, with minimal boat traffic, and set against a backdrop of islands, forests, and mountains. You will experience the feeling of a resort where you come to unplug, unwind, and leave your worries at home. It’s where you’ll enjoy the company of family, friends, and nature. A motorboat, canoe and 4 kayaks are provided for you to explore over 8 miles of shoreline with countless cutbacks, bays, and coves. It’s almost a half mile wide in some areas. The pontoon boat pictured may also be rented to experienced boaters under a separate agreement. Contact the agent for additional details.

There are fewer than 25 homes on this lake and 90% of the shoreline is complete wilderness. Take the motorboat or paddle to the public islands to have picnic lunches or stop at one of the many sandy beaches along the lakeshore to cool off and swim if you like.

The cabin offers 1800 square feet of living space and 850 square feet of deck space with spectacular views of the lake and mountains. The interior features a first floor bedroom and full bathroom, dining and living areas, and open floor plan with gorgeous hickory floors. The kitchen has all new appliances and cabinets and the living area, with new furnishings, also includes a Vermont Castings glass front wood stove. It’s the perfect place to gather after a fun-filled day on the water, where you can play games, enjoy great conversations, catch up on a good book, or just stare into the flickering flames. Some find it the ideal spot to “rest their eyes”.

The 3 bedrooms on the 2nd floor are fully carpeted and also have comfortable furnishings, updated within the last 5 years. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are 10’x12’ and each has a 4’x4’ sky light to let the sun in during the day and let you gaze at the stars at night. The huge master bedroom (17’x29’) features a TV, couch, love set and 6’ slider to the upper private deck overlooking the lake, two 4’x4’ sky lights, T&G pine ceiling and circulating fan. The full bathrooms on the 1st and 2nd floors are each tile and have walk-in showers. The 2nd floor bath has a stacked, high capacity Washer/Dryer, and two Linen Closets.

No need to bring in water as there is an absolutely pure spring well. If it gets cold, the furnace will kick on, and just in case the power goes out, a 12KW backup generator will automatically restore electricity.

Lake Placid and the high peaks region is just an hour and a half to the east and the University cities of Potsdam and Canton are about 30 minutes away. If you can pull yourselves away from the fun on the water, there’s a lot to do for all interests from mountain climbing, hiking, waterfall trails, and white water rafting, to museums and live theatre, all within a short drive.

Come stay at our summer home and enjoy the peace, beauty, and tranquility of these special waters and surroundings. You’ll create memories that will last a lifetime!

Blake Falls Reservoir is part of a chain of reservoirs on the Raquette River between Route 3 and Potsdam. The Raquette River flows north, and these reservoirs include Blake Falls, Rainbow Falls and Five Falls. The 710-acre Blake Falls Reservoir averages 7 feet deep and has a maximum depth of 45 feet. The large bays are relatively shallow.

Blake Falls has a large, lake-like look as it covers over 700 acres and extends for nearly four miles. This reservoir has minimal shoreline development, with only 25 homes spread out over 8 miles of waterfront. Anglers can always find quiet places to fish. While walleyes are the most targeted species here, smallmouths, yellow perch, and northern pike also receive significant attention. Prime walleye locations include the waters below the Raquette River Inlet, the bay off the north shore of McNeil Campground, the old river channel east of McNeil, and the deep-water section between Whispering Pines Point and Joe Indian Outlet. Look for smallmouths on points, along gravel shorelines, in boulder-strewn areas, along shoreline drop-offs, in necked-down areas, and wherever there is a current flow. Yellow perch exist throughout the reservoir, but you’ll find larger perch along weeds in the open area at Blake’s southern end or the points and bays east of the campground. Good bets for finding northern pike are the weed edges and shorelines of the bays in the northern half of the reservoir. Anglers commonly see loons and bald eagles at Blake where quality public access is available at two launch sites.

You are welcome to bring your own boat to the lake and there are two public launch areas. Whether touring by boat, or in our canoe or kayaks, you can enjoy exploring the many backwaters of the Reservoir. The bird watching is good, with Common Mergansers frequently nesting here. One of only two Bald Eagle nests in St. Lawrence County is nearby and with a little luck you can see one of the eagles soaring overhead. Much of the perimeter of the Reservoir is owned by NYS and can be explored on foot. Bicycling in the area is also popular.

One of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Park, Blake Falls, is just down the road and is only a 5 minute walk from the parking area.
