Philadelphia is a great city that's only gotten better over the years. Staying so true to its art and culture, it's been said that Philly is New York's most vibrant neighborhood. The city is always a great experience, but we get it... it's important to stay close to the fun and excitement, and then spend nights in the quiet of a cozy Stay Alfred like this one – living like fun-loving urban gentry.

Located in a wonderfully remodeled and historic stone building in Philadelphia's lively Midtown Village, this Stay Alfred puts you smack dab in the center of the city's greatest venues, including delectable diners, stellar Philly street performances, obscure local shops, and equally splendid daytime fun and nightlife. There's all that fun right outside your door, plus must-see national history just down the street, with the Liberty Bell, the Betsy Ross House, and Independence Hall, all within walking distance. Plus, this Stay Alfred has a Walk Score of 99, so bring comfortable shoes!

Your Stay Alfred is also close to some of the finest of art and cultural life, with Benjamin Franklin Parkway and the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Remember the steps scene in Rocky?) just a couple miles away – easy walking or running distance if you've got the “eye of the tiger.” Getting the feeling that there's no better place to post up in Philadelphia than this Stay Alfred? Go with it. There's so much to do close by, and, after taking in all that Philadelphia culture, you'll love coming home to a quiet building complete with remodeled Art Deco lobby and modern gym, and to a condo with timeless hardwood floors, big comfy beds and giant windows with fantastic views of Philly streets.

Your Stay Alfred

Inside your cozy Stay Alfred, you'll appreciate the European kitchen design and stainless-steel appliances, as well as its granite countertops. A smart kitchen design beckons you to cook at home in style. Plenty of big windows in each room bathe the place in natural light. The open floor plan between living room and kitchen give the condo a roomy look and feel. And, there's plenty of room for the whole crew to spread out and relax in front of the big screen TV when it's time to chill. Sleek bath and kitchen fixtures dress up this Stay Alfred nicely, while stylish wood floors add a homey look and feel. Plus, with Stay Alfred, you don't pay for a Philadelphia vacation apartment cluttered with “the owner's” stuff--you get a place all to your own.

The Building

Built in 1902 and listed on the historic register, the stone building boasts a striking architecture and features a retro-remodeled art deco lobby complete with fantastic chandelier lighting, vintage wall sconces and a well-lit mail center. The lobby also offers a tasty coffee and tea bar that's always open for a quick cup when you're in a hurry. The building also features a 24-hour gym with exercise bikes, Cardio Theater and treadmills, plus, of course, an array of free weights. (Sorry, none of the Rocky-style wood to split or cold storage beef on hooks for punching.) Other great amenities include a 24-hour concierge, package receiving, and available dry-cleaning.

Building Amenities

Controlled access building for optimal security (James Bond would love it)

24-hour workout center with Cardio Theatre technology to out-train even the Russian guy in Rocky IV, but with free weights to keep it Rocky real

Business center in building – just walk down the hall and you're there

Valet dry-cleaning available for looking great in your business duds

24-hour coffee/tea available for getting a jumpstart on your day

Why this particular condo, you ask? You've seen the great in-room features and the building amenities fit for a king or queen. The great views, the fantastic lobby, the state-of-the art gym and business center. What sets this condo apart is the fantastic neighborhood. Not enough can be said about Midtown Village.

The Midtown Village neighborhood is an experience. The streets throng with friendly crowds enjoying festivities and street acts everywhere you go. Just blocks away from your cozy condo is Philly's renowned Reading Terminal Market, where you can find fresh local produce and meats, seafood, poultry, spices and more for cooking up fantastic meals in your posh kitchen. Local Faves

Green Eggs Café

First, breakfast. We recommend a (cash-only) place called Green Eggs Café. It's worth the 5-minute walk and is a great way to wake up and get going. The café has a super friendly ambience and is notorious for serving huge portions, so come hungry. The Green Eggs menu offers such breakfast yumyums as Pecan Pie French Toast, Creole Shrimp with Grits , and Crab Cake Benedict. All SO good! Stop in for a Breakfast Burrito to eat on the go, or sit yourself down to our favorite, Green Egg's huge stack of Cookie Dough Stuffed French Toast!

5-Minute Walk

MilkBoy Philadelphia

A stylin' bar, restaurant, and live music venue in one, MilkBoy is the creation of local music industry pros and a popular local Philly chef. So, yeah, good food and great music, together. MilkBoy has an upstairs music venue that boasts an impressive lineup of local and nationally known talent, plus two bars and food options all day that are as good as the music. Not just a stellar nightclub, Milkboy is as popular at 3am as it is at 7am when it opens to serve breakfast, with lunch and dinner options later, plus happy hour. MilkBoy even offers great pub grub into the wee hours when the music's thumping. The drink menu sports one of Philly's better beer selections, with a assortment of craft beers on draft and a variety of hot and chilled cocktails.

2-Minute Walk

Capogiro Gelato Artisans

There isn't a better way to follow up that delicious meal at one of Philly's great restaurants than a scoop (or two or three) of artisan ice cream at Capogiro. With a respectful nod toward quality, Capogiro adheres strictly to the rule of “artigianale.” What is that? Some Italian tradition that says EVERYTHING has to be made in-house, not just the bases, not just the cones, but the flavorings, too. Whatever. It works for us. Capogiro boasts 385 flavors on rotation with dozens of options every day. We recommend the Ananas con Sage or the Golden Pineapple. Or, try out the Bacio Chocolate-Hazelnut gelato. It's laden with delectably caramelized crushed hazelnuts. Hello!

3-Minute Walk

Insomnia Cookies

Oh lordy! You've got some late-night munchies and don't want to put on your shoes or even think about going out that door. Insomnia Cookies has your back. You order online or by phone, and they deliver warm cookie treats in just minutes. (Though, understand that Insomnia is just a 3-minute walk from your condo and they do walk-in orders, too, if you're in need a short stroll.) The fine Insomnia menu boasts package deals of 6, 12, 18 and 24 tasty cookies of your choice, with almost all traditional possibilities available. Along with cookies, Insomnia will bring you to-die-for cookie sandwiches packed with, you guessed right, ice cream, in the middle of two somehow-still-warm cookies. Oh my! Insomnia Cookies is open from 10am to 3am weekdays and noon to 3 am on weekends.

Comfortable apartment with a great view!

  • 4 of 5

Comfortable apartment in a Center City high rise with 24hr door security, just steps from food and cultural amenities - like staying in downtown Manhattan.

- Parking is by garage only - if you don't intend to use your car much (and with Lyft, Septa, etc, you may not need to) consider Spot Hero.

- Amenities abound: towels, dishes, kitchenware, light cookware, full fridge, dishwasher, washer/dryer. However, the "expendable" items like dishsoap, trash bags, laundry detergent are scarce and not replenished during the stay. Luckily, there are both a 7/11 and a Target within the block, so these are not too hard to come by.

- The apartment is cold, and the blankets are lacking - bring warm pajamas

- There are NO full length mirrors in the entire apartment; and the only mirrors are in the bathroom, so beware if you are needing to dress up for an evening out

- It was unclear who to contact for maintenance; the vanity light was out in our bathroom, and only one keyfob worked. However, building security is not equipped to handle these issues, as since we are not tenents...wasn't sure how to get these taken care of.

- Roku controller missing from master bedroom, but there is cable, so it worked out well.

Overall, my family and I had an amazing time, enjoyed scenic views. There are city sounds, including sirens, so beware if you are a light sleeper. However, watching the sunrise while in bed from the east facing bedroom was absolutely delightful.

Great Location!

  • 4 of 5

The property was centrally located to the train stations and the Reading Terminal. Reasons why I didn’t give it a 5 were for minor things that added up: the insufficient lighting in the guest bathroom long with no vent fan which caused the bathroom to get very hot and steamy, no shower caddy in master bath and the street noise can get very loud.

Overall, for the price, location and friendly concierge, I would recommend this location.

Great location, safe, convenient, friendly building staff.

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is very roomy and spacious with lots of natural light. It is well equipped and comfortable. It is very convenient to Reading Market, the convention area, the performance venues, and within walking distance to the Constitution Center and The Old City. This is a great apartment for two couples or for a family.

Centrally located comfort.

  • 5 of 5

Really nice apartment, well situated close to everything one would want to see in Philadelphia. The apartment was clean, comfortable, well equipped and easy to locate . A problem with the key holder on the exterior door was swiftly handled when we called Stay Alfred. Nearby parking was easy but expensive. There is currently a lot of building work going on in the area which started early in the morning but this is not a criticism of the apartment, rather than an observation on city living.
