Overview

About the property

1 bedroom-sleeps 2, 1 full bath, kitchen

This rental is located on 8 acres in the scenic hills above Santa Rosa. Our rental is designed for couples who want a little luxury in a country setting. Although we are in the country, you are only minutes away from shops and fine restaurants. Serene and beautiful mountain views can be seen from the balcony and all the windows. Wake up to a view of mountains and the song of the numerous birds that live in our fields. The road begins and ends in two regional parks that are wonderful for hiking or mountain biking.

We are in the Sonoma Valley Wine Region, also known as the Valley of the Moon. You will understand why if you are here to see the lovely moon rise from the balcony. The valley begins at the base our road (HWY 12) and ends 16.5 miles later at the town of Sonoma.

Here is a detailed layout: The rental has a separate entrance. The door connecting the rental to the main house has been sealed off and sound-proofing installed. Your private entrance is through the drive-through carport. You have your own kitchen, which is located downstairs as you enter into a small hall. The kitchen was installed 3 years ago with new appliances. It has a stove, sink, dishwasher and refrigerator. It is stocked with silverware, pots and pans, and dishware.

Stairs lead to the upper level and largest area. There is a small dining room just at the top. A door to the right leads to a master suite. You enter into a hallway with built-in bookcases. The bedroom area to the immediate right is about 20’ x 25’ with high wooden ceilings. The sitting area is by the bay windows in front of the bed. There are 2 chairs and a table here for you to enjoy the view of the mountains and valley. This room also has a gas fireplace and flat screen TV.

A balcony runs the length of the unit and has 2 sliding doors. There is a small table with 2 chairs here so you can enjoy your morning coffee. The balcony faces east and can be seen in the photos (double rainbow in winter). There is a bar sink, mini fridge, and microwave in the hall next to the balcony.

A large walk-in closet is between the bed area and the bathroom. The bathroom is extremely large and also has high wooden ceilings. We have a 2 person Jacuzzi, walk in shower, and double sinks. My husband is a remodeling contractor so the detail work is high end in the California craftsman style. All the cabinetry and built-ins have been made in his wood shop.

About Kathy and Dave

I have lived in Santa Rosa for the last twenty five years. We left San Francisco to build our home and studio near Hood State Park. We have raised our two children here and become part of this unique community. During this time I have come to appreciate the extraordinary beauty of this area from painting landscapes in the vineyards and park lands.

Guestbook comments from the owner

On a scale of 1-5, I would give this place a 6. It is immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, and very cozy. It is sunny, private and peaceful; away from the hustle and bustle, yet within a couple of miles from a convenience store (good thing because I ran out of deodorant!). You will enjoy waking up to the morning sunlight and the birds singing outside. You can sit with your coffee by the bay window in super comfortable chairs admiring the spectacular view, or watch the marvelous sunset with a glass of vino. Hotels in the area don’t stand a chance in comparison. There are simply no hotel rooms that will provide the amenities this place has at such a reasonable price. For wine lovers, it is the perfect place to stay; equidistant to vineyards in the southern part of Sonoma as well as northern Sonoma. Pinot Noir fans, this is your spot. Kathy is super sweet and a wonderful hostess. (Sammy will greet you upon arrival; the nicest yellow lab you’ll ever meet.). I highly recommend this place and look forward to returning one day.

Beautiful property in prime location!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I went to Sonoma on a mother/daughter trip for a few days and this property was perfect. While our plan was to go to wineries, we discovered the hiking trails just two miles from the house and the Sonoma coast just an hour away. The guest house/apartment was much more than we expecteded - views of the mountains, gorgeous interior with a giant bathroom and walk-in closet. The king size bed was really comfortable with quality bedding, and we happened to time our trip with the full moon. It was unbelievable! Communication with the owner was great. Thank you Kathy for sharing your amazing home with us! Cameron & Dylan

Kathy and Dave were very warm and helpful in ensuring our stay was comfortable and memorable. The apartment was very private and well maintained. The views were gorgeous. Short drive to all the great locations and wineries in the area. We will definitely be back again!

Relaxing stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful 5 night stay. The room, even though attached to the main living area, was quiet and private. The owners were helpful whenever we had questions. The landscape was beautiful and we saw much wildlife from turkeys to deer. The drive on the road to the house was two miles and quite curvy, a SUV or AWD would be a perfect vehicle for this. We had a great experience and will rent out this vacation home again in the future.

Beautiful views and spectacular hosts!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 4 nights here to celebrate our 25th anniversary. Everything about the home is perfect. The views from the bed are amazing. We especially liked the view through the mirror in the bathroom to the mountain behind the home.

The home is just a short drive down a nice winding road to all of the valley's vineyards and wineries. If you go on up the hill past the home there are spectacular views and it leads to a Hood Mountain trail head that is a great hiking experience.

The owners were the best. I have to relay this experience to give you an example of how helpful they are.

The morning that we were leaving, we hit a rock in the road which damaged our rental car. The rock was big enough to punch a hole in the oil pan. (Beware of rock slides on the narrow mountain roads) We were stranded in the rain and were told by the rental company that it would be several hours before we could get another car. We called and told Kathy about our situation. She showed up in about 5 minutes, took as back to her house and even let us take her car to go to lunch in town and do some shopping while we waited for the new rental. She turned what was a terrible day into an enjoyable one. We cannot thank her enough!

Owner's Response: Glen, thank you for your kind words:) You are a lovely couple and it was so easy having you here. I was happy to help with the car problem. Most of us have been there, stuck waiting in a car that's broken down. I always believe there's nothing like a good meal to put things right! I hope you are having a nice Easter today, a time of hope and new beginnings. Best, Kathy

Outstanding!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely gorgeous property and area. Hood Mountain National park is 2 miles up the road and is great for hiking or trail running with some pretty significant elevation.

Can go to either Napa or Sonoma from this property. Absolutely loved the place and the owners are great.

The space is luxurious and aesthetically delightful while also being completely comfy and homey.

We couldn't have been more pleased with everything. Our host greeted us with a fresh pound of coffee soon after we arrived. The dog, Sammy, made us feel like old friends. During our stay of two days we had sunshine, rain, winds and SNOW! We had planned to go to dinner in Sonoma to celebrate our anniversary one night but chose to have dinner "home" both nights we were there because it was so intimate and special.

We explored the land, enjoyed the daffodils and were enchanted by a big orange cat which looked like a furry basketball with a head. The clouds weaving their way through the forested valleys and hills were a never-ending source of beauty. Our only regret was that we had to leave.
