Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay and especially that the cabin was on a lake. Our kids enjoyed the fire pit and dock and we had a great time cooking out. It was not an issue at all having no oven, we were able to use grill and griddle for most things! Very nice and quiet getaway

Highly Recommend!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed here for a last minute get-a-way over Easter and loved it! The cabin was super clean and neatly decorated in hunting chic. The pictures just do not do this place justice.

It sat in a beautiful space next to a large pond, full of fish. The fish were biting and the kids were catching them! It is hard to tell from the pictures but the pond is approximately 40 yards from the cabin, with the fire pit inbetween. It was awesome having a fire with the pond about 10 yards away, hearing the frogs and fish splash at night. Bring an ax and finding your own wood to burn is a snap, as the woods provide a generous amount of downed, dry limbs. We used the grill by the fire pit which also had a burner for a pan. You can see a few other cabins up in the hills but it was peaceful and quiet as this cabin sits in a valley by itself by the pond.

My 10 and 11 year old went off on their own all the time, there is so much to explore within shouting distance of the cabin. Several shallow streams flow down into the pond and the kids enjoyed jumping and playing in and around water, crossing downed trees and getting dirty. I was not worried at all let them go explore.

We all slept like a rock both nights, the beds were very comfortable. (The owner told me he just put in new twin mattresses recently.) The kitchen is small, but we were camping and most of our food prep was done outside so it was just fine. (Bring a sponge or dish clothes for cleaning dishes). We did lose cell phone coverage at the point of turning down the driveway to the cabin from the road and was so glad to be disconnected for the first time in years.

We all wished we had another day to hang out and explore the land. Owner was easy to work with and happily accomadated our special request. It's been 1 day and the deposit refund has been processed and the kids already have asked to go back to this cabin!

Cozy cabin away from it all.

  • 4 of 5

Our family of four had a very nice weekend at this cabin. Quiet and serene deep in the woods. We would recommend for any family looking to get away for a weekend "off the grid".

Clean and quiet

  • 5 of 5

The house was immaculate. There was not a spot of dirt or dust anywhere, nor did I see a single bug inside. It was pretty impressive, especially for a house in the woods.

I was glad to have 4 wheel drive for the last leg of the drive to the property, but I don't think I truly needed it.

The setting was very nice and peaceful.

It was pretty difficult to prepare food given the size of the kitchen and lack of oven, but there's a charcoal grill outside and a nice picnic table. Plus, I didn't really want to cook on vacation anyway!

The furniture inside is beautiful. There could be more plentiful/comfortable seating in the living area, but overall it was fine. The bedrooms are huge, and there is a roll away cot in the master that our daughter liked sleeping on. All the bedding was super clean and comfy.

It took about 15 minutes to get to the nearest grocery store and gas station. The major Hocking Hills hikes are maybe 20ish minutes away, so it was a good location.

One of the other reviews said there were only 4 plates and bowls, but I saw a lot more than that. We brought paper plates and cups, though, so it didn't end up mattering.

The hiking trail around the property was great to have. It is maybe 2-2.5 times the circumference of the pond and was pretty easy. My 3 year old hiked it with no problem.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

Location

The Hocking Hills is one of the most scenic areas in the state of Ohio. It is also a hiker’s paradise with trails varying in difficulty from relatively easy ones (appropriate for young children) to more challenging trails that cover steep terrain or follow gorge rims.
