Tucked away from the busyness of life & nestled between the ponderosa pine & aspen trees sits; Cabin In The Wildwood. Only 1/4 mile walk from the Bitterroot River, this one room cabin might be all you need to regain your peace of mind from the whirlwind of life. This simple & rustic, but warmly cozy cabin will take you back to a time where life was much more simple. A place where farm life meets the wild life, and all you have to do is watch. And, the newly built log cabin is complete with many windows to see it happen all around you! A queen sized log canopy bed & full sized futon both with linens is where you will rest at the end of a busy (or not so busy) day enjoying the wonderfullness of our beautiful Bitterroot Valley and all she has to offer.
We are located approximately half way between Darby & Missoula, a straight shot north or south on Hwy 93. The Bitterroot Mountains to the west and the Sapphire Mountains to the east. A gorgeous drive you won't soon forget! Five miles from the cabin you are at Kootenai Creek trailhead, a breathtaking hike through the rocky mountains alongside freshwater waterfalls that are the Kootenai Creek. Only two miles from shopping and restaurants in Stevensville; where Montana first began! St. Mary's Mission, Blacksmith & Wildwood Breweries, Creamery Picnic, Mission Bistro, & Maries Italian Restaurant are just a few places and events to experience while lodging at Cabin In The Wildwood.
The cabin is complete with a small range with oven, sink, fridge & microwave. Dishes, pots and pans, flatware & glasses are available along with a BBQ if you feel like dinning in. A fireplace & extra blankets will be provided in case the Montana evenings are a bit more chilly than you were expecting. Summer month temps can get to 100, but its very rare. One thing you can always count on: it WILL cool off in the evenings.
The Cabin In The Wildwood is a dry cabin, but only a short walk across the grass greets you with a private outside entrance to a full bath in the main home complete with fresh towels and hot water! A casual 1/4 mile walk leads you to a private 5 acre "park". Owned jointly with the surrounding landowners, sits on the edge of our beautiful, & bountiful Bitterroot river.
Wake up to the sounds of numerous birds that make the wildwood their home. Watch the deer, elk or moose make their way to water each day as they travel through the woods on the property's southern border. A bear & mountain lion have also been known to visit, however I have only witnessed the bear! Cabin in the Wildwood could easily be the Bitterroots "best kept secret" .... it could also be yours!
My love affair with the Bitterroot Valley began at the age 7 after a full two day journey riding in the back seat of my parents buick. My best friend for the 2 week vacation beside me; my Grandma! We camped, out of that buick; sleeping on the ground in assorted campgrounds the entire time, just so my Dad who was a crazy fly fisherman could fish the river of his dreams ... The Bitterroot! The next summer we were back for another 2 weeks but, with a small upgrade: An F-150 with a topper. That second trip is when I remember sitting on the old Darby bridge, legs dangling off the side, a lovely little tune in my head & prayed and asked God if I could live here some day! July 3, 1989 my blessing had arrived! After a 1,000+ mile journey, with two vehicles, a U-haul truck, my two children, their father, two horses, a dog, 3 cats, the rest of our "worldly possessions" ... AND no jobs, we arrived in Hamilton to live out our new adventure! My sweet daughter, who at that time, was the same age as myself when I first came to the Bitterroot, said these words that I will never forget: "Oh Mother, look at those mountains, they are so beautiful!!"
I now have Grandbabies that were born in the Bitterroot & many changes have come and gone in these past 26 years. But, one thing NEVER changes .... The mountains! They will always be beautiful!!
Owner/Manager purchased this cabin in 2014
Delightful rustic cabin in a tranquil setting. Short walk down a tree lined lane to the Bitterroot River. Shorter walk to the private bathroom. Cabin is "dry", (i.e. no running water) although there is a sink with water in the cabin. Wonderfully eclectic decor. Charming host and friendly dog.
What a great place to decompress and relax. The cabin and surroundings were even better in person than the website pictures portrayed. The rural setting provided great opportunities to enjoy the river, the woods, and all sorts of wildlife. And with the mountains as a backdrop, the sunsets were spectacular.
The cabin décor was spot on and extremely comfortable, and the grounds were neatly kept. With all that and the personal touches geared to individual guests, it was certainly easy to see how much love and attention the host has put into this property, and making guests feel welcome.
The town of Stevensville is only a 10 minute drive away and provides all sorts of places to shop for antiques, or grab a pizza and enjoy some micro brews.
So if you are looking for a place to kick back and unwind, while still having many of the creature comforts of home, this is the place to stay!
This is the perfect, cozy Montana cabin to spend a weekend. You can't beat fresh eggs, butter and milk waiting for you in the refrigerator! Everything was very, very clean. The space outside was great for roasting marshmallows into the night. The inside of the cabin was made for relaxation and comfort. It's the perfect place to get out of town but not be too far away. The owner is very welcoming and if you need something, she's right there to help.
The owner was fantastic. The cabin was clean and warm and private. I enjoyed my stay.
Exactly what we were looking for. Will recommend to others even though we would love to have it to ourselves! The owner is a very gracious and thoughtful hostess. Hope to make this an annual destination.
We stayed at the cabin for 13 days, between the closing of our home in Helena, and the closing of our new place in Stevensville. The cabin was perfect for our needs. Minutes to downtown Stevensville, for dining, shopping, and laundry facilities. A short walk to the Bitterroot River for our dog. Great host that is now a greater friend. Perfect and highly recommended!
