About the property

Cabin In The Wildwood

Tucked away from the busyness of life & nestled between the ponderosa pine & aspen trees sits; Cabin In The Wildwood. Only 1/4 mile walk from the Bitterroot River, this one room cabin might be all you need to regain your peace of mind from the whirlwind of life. This simple & rustic, but warmly cozy cabin will take you back to a time where life was much more simple. A place where farm life meets the wild life, and all you have to do is watch. And, the newly built one room log cabin is complete with many windows to see it happen all around you! A queen sized log canopy bed & full sized futon both with linens is where you will rest at the end of a busy (or not so busy) day enjoying the wonderfullness of our beautiful Bitterroot Valley and all she has to offer.

The Cabin In The Wildwood is a dry cabin, but only a short walk across the grass greets you with a private outside entrance (for our guests only) to a full bath in the main home complete with fresh towels and hot water! A casual 1/4 mile walk leads you to a private 5 acre "park". Owned jointly with the surrounding landowners, sits on the edge of our beautiful, & bountiful Bitterroot river.

The cabin is complete with a small range with oven, sink, fridge & microwave. Dishes, pots and pans, flatware & glasses are available along with a BBQ if you feel like dinning in. A fireplace & extra blankets will be provided in case the Montana evenings are a bit more chilly than you were expecting. Summer month temps can get to 100, but its very rare. One thing you can always count on: it WILL cool off in the evenings.

We are located approximately half way between Darby & Missoula, a straight shot north or south on Hwy 93. The Bitterroot Mountains to the west and the Sapphire Mountains to the east. A gorgeous drive you won't soon forget! Five miles from the cabin you are at Kootenai Creek trailhead, a breathtaking hike through the rocky mountains alongside freshwater waterfalls that are the Kootenai Creek. Only two miles from shopping and restaurants in Stevensville; where Montana first began! St. Mary's Mission, Blacksmith & Wildwood Breweries, Creamery Picnic, Mission Bistro, & Maries Italian Restaurant are just a few places and events to experience while lodging at Cabin In The Wildwood.

Wake up to the sounds of numerous birds that make the wildwood their home. Watch the deer, elk or moose make their way to water each day as they travel through the woods on the property's southern border. A bear & mountain lion have also been known to visit, however I have only witnessed the bear! Cabin in the Wildwood could easily be the Bitterroots "best kept secret" .... it could also be yours!

About Owner/Manager

My love affair with the Bitterroot Valley began at the age 7 after a full two day journey riding in the back seat of my parents buick. My best friend for the 2 week vacation beside me; my Grandma! We camped, out of that buick; sleeping on the ground in assorted campgrounds the entire time, just so my Dad who was a crazy fly fisherman could fish the river of his dreams ... The Bitterroot! The next summer we were back for another 2 weeks but, with a small upgrade: An F-150 with a topper. That second trip is when I remember sitting on the old Darby bridge, legs dangling off the side, a lovely little tune in my head & prayed and asked God if I could live here some day! July 3, 1989 my blessing had arrived! After a 1,000+ mile journey, with two vehicles, a U-haul truck, my two children, their father, two horses, a dog, 3 cats, the rest of our "worldly possessions" ... AND no jobs, we arrived in Hamilton to live out our new adventure! My sweet daughter, who at that time, was the same age as myself when I first came to the Bitterroot, said these words that I will never forget: "Oh Mother, look at those mountains, they are so beautiful!!"

I now have Grandbabies that were born in the Bitterroot & many changes have come and gone in these past 28 years. But, one thing NEVER changes .... The mountains! They will always be beautiful!!

Cozy cabin in peaceful setting.

  • 4 of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed my brief stay in Molly's little cabin. It's tastefully decorated, and has everything you need, except for a bathroom. The facility is a little walk from the cabin, and has a separate entrance at the back of the house. This was no big deal for me. The location was ideal, halfway down the beautiful Bitterroot Valley, and five minutes from the town of Stevensville, Montana's oldest settlement, which has shopping, and restaurants. I'm hoping to have the chance to come back next year.

Loved this cute & cozy cabin!

  • 5 of 5

What a comfortable and cozy cabin in the woods. My mom and daughter joined me for a girls' getaway weekend. Molly had the cabin ready for us on short notice. The cabin was clean and comfortable. She stocked some farm fresh eggs, milk, and microwave popcorn for us. She even left a basket full of "chick flicks" for us to enjoy. We loved the quiet and peaceful evenings. There were lots of deer and wild turkeys. The stars were amazing! The bathroom is attached to her main home with a private side entrance. Would love to come back when the weather is cooler and enjoy the fire pit.

Beautifully Secluded Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Molly takes care and puts thought into every detail, down to the cute welcome on the bathroom chalkboard. She had fresh eggs and milk waiting for us, which were delicious. Having a fire and soaking in the view was exactly what we needed. Thank you for a letting us stay! We will definitely be visiting again.

Just Right For Two

  • 5 of 5

Being from Wisconsin, I didn't realize that we had picked one of the hottest weeks of the year to book our stay in Stevensville, so I was a little apprehensive about renting a non-airconditioned cabin. Not to worry... The cabin cooled down nicely at night and we slept comfortably with the fans running. The cabin was spotless, and the bed was comfortable. My husband is a restless sleeper, so he used the futon and said it wasn't bad, though it took us a while to figure out how to put it up and down. We should have asked Molly, as she was quick to answer any questions we had and we sure enjoyed getting to know her. The cabin is situated so that it feels quiet private, while being close enough to the main house that the bathroom (which had it's own private side entrance on the main house) and was not too far away. In the evening we sat on the deck and watched the deer and the horses. If the area gets an unusually wet spring, you may need mosquito spray. They were bad everywhere we went this year. Molly suggested Marie's Italian restaurant for dinner but they were only open Friday-Sunday and we didn't get a chance to try them. I hope to next time. Conveniently located just a couple miles from groceries, breweries and restaurants. Thank you Molly for sharing your place with us.

Perfect!! Secluded, cozy quiet! Exactly what we needed

  • 5 of 5

The owner Molly is generous and very welcoming. We enjoyed the wildlife and of course the pets.

The cabin was well stocked with all the necessities and things we weren't expecting. Such as fresh eggs, milk and condiments.

The location was perfect for our needs. Close to Missoula and Hamilton.

We are looking forward to returning, wish we could have stayed longer!

Thanks for everything Molly and Tank!

Owner's Response: Hey Donna & Danette! Sooo great having you here! Enjoyed the campfires and chats under the stars with a glass of wine! Thanks for enjoying your stay so much, makes me happy to have guests soak up the relaxation like you both did. Wishing the river had been more cooperative by being a little lower .. but hey! Something to look forward to on your trip back in a couple years! :-) Best of everything to you both on the home sale & job search! Everything will work out like its supposed to! Thank you again for everything!

Scenic, welcoming and cozy

  • 5 of 5

This place is outstanding! I use to live here in the bitterrroot and missed it so much I wanted to come back and see and share there beauty with my husband.

And what can I say about Molly the owner/host, it doesn't get any better than her. The cabin was so cozy and everything you could ask for, for a peaceful and relaxing few days, molly went above and beyond any host/owner I have ever experienced. The warm welcome of her smile, nice little welcome baskets, fresh eggs from her chickens.

In the evening you can sit outside enjoy a nice little bon fire and watch the deer come in and cannot forget the beautiful stars from " the big sky".

Thank you, Molly for being the most gracious host and helping us make memories.

If there is one place of I could do it would be right back here!
