Windansea beach is home to surfers and vacationers alike who enjoy the friendly, secluded atmosphere of an area located just a 5 minute drive from the famous La Jolla Village. Close enough for a short and scenic drive north to Torrey Pines Golf Course, south to downtown San Diego, Sea World, PetCo Park, San Diego Bay, Mission Bay and some of the most beautiful Missions in Southern California.

Beautiful top floor condo, NOV2016

Most everything about this Condo is very good; location, surf, kitchen, accommodations. So here is the short list of irritants.

One single wine glass; you should bring more if you are not a solo.

Elevator is restricted to residents in the UP mode. Plan to carry your stuff up to the top. (Since elevator actually opens up in your condo, I understand this restriction)

If you need air conditioning the single vent in the master bedroom is directly over your head and is VERY drafty, even when closed.

Cleaning fee is exorbitantly high.

Mandatory property insurance is forced on the renter.

This is a professionally managed property (8-5 M-F). Forget speaking to a human on your attempts to contact. You must wait for them to call you back, on their time. If you miss their call and respond immediately with a call back you are stuck with leaving a message. Response time was generally 2- 24 hours. E-mail response time was similar.

After 2 weeks of e-mails and messages we knew what to expect when we arrived. We had no issues during our stay.

Finally, a very beautiful place, with very average management.

Be advised, if you leave a truly honest review like this, the management company will hammer you. They rated my wife and I a 3 out of 5 for overall experience.

Once again, the property is very nice; Our experience with Harland Mgmt was average.

We would stay here again.

Stunning. The views, the location, the comfort - felt like a home rather than a rental.

Traveling with a family, we knew a rental was the way to go - this property far exceeded our expectations. It was a little tricky going up the stairs with luggage and groceries, but the exercise didn't hurt and it was totally worth it to have the best, unobstructed view of the sunset each night. We had fun filled days out and about, but we looked forward to spending the evenings at this property - whether we cooked or ordered in, it was one of the best vacation experiences ever and I was really nervous at first traveling with my 3 year old and in-laws, but this was a dream. After a busy day, it was truly relaxing once we were "home". We all had our own space, beds were very comfortable, and the use of the space is incredibly functional. Perfect.

Beautiful location but some issues

First the positives - the condo is in a magnificent location overlooking Windansea beach from the third floor. Truly spectacular ocean and beach views. Great fun watching the surfers do their thing. Access to all the attractions of La Jolla and San Diego is excellent. Downtown San Diego is only 20 to 30 minutes away. The condo is comfortably large enough, but fairly basically furnished. The main negative is the lack of elevator access to the condo. The trip up the narrow and dirty staircase was a challenge, especially with suitcases and groceries.

LOCATION. LOCATION. LOCATION.

You couldn't ask for a better location in Wind'nSea nor a better view. The property is on the 3rd floor with a great open kitchen , dining and living area. There is a large balcony that overlooks the Pacific Ocean with simply spectacular views. The entire ocean facing side of the condo is covered in floor to ceiling windows and sliding doors. It really is mesmerizing.

The kitchen is well stocked and includes top class appliances so cooking in is a breeze and all the more relaxing given the view.

Even better if....

1. Access to parking requires exiting the car every time because the keyboard is on the wall. This should be resolved by extending the keyboard out 1-1.5 feet or supplying openers (against the deposit).

2. The hallway carpets are such that they easily move, especially if luggage is rolling over them.

3. The elevator is not accessible to go up, only down. This is a significant issue if you have small children or older people. This is the single biggest negative and must be resolved, especially given the price tag on the property.

4. The beach facing coded door doesn't work. Anyone can open the door simply by pulling on it.

5. The music system - Bluetooth - doesn't work.

6. We used the elevator to go down one night and got stuck. We had to call the fire department to come and free us. They had to reset the power and we were fortunate to get out after 20 minutes with no injuries other than a very emotional and upset child. The fire department says that the elevator needs to be serviced or replaced.

7. I called Harland after hours to report the incident (Thursday evening). The after hours person was completely unhelpful and seemed to be uninterested in understanding the challenge. He simply stated that they - Harland- didn't manage the property and that I should call the property manager (I don't know who that is).

Otherwise fab trip despite above challenges.

Surfer's Paradise, Pretty Good for Families, Could be stocked better

If you're a surfer, the location in La Jolla is exceptional, right across the street from one of the best breaks in the area off Windansea Beach. If you're looking for a surfing getaway in SoCal, this is the place.

For families, the location has some trade-offs. The beach itself is not particularly wide, and interspersed with rock formations and sand, which is good and bad for little kids. It's hard to spread out and just relax on the beach, as the waves crash hard and there is not a lot of room to run around. But at the same time the rocks are great for exploring. So it depends on the kids.

The layout of the unit itself is ideal for a family, provided you don't mind climbing 2 flights of stairs. We were there with our two kids and my parents, and everyone was very comfortable in the accommodations.

Our one suggestion to the management company is to better stock the place. There was virtually nothing in the way of kitchen basics like olive oil, salt and pepper, spices, etc. The laundry detergent was virtually empty, enough for one load. Most renters don't want to have to buy all that stuff for a short-term stay of a week or less, so it would be useful to stock the unit with some basic ingredients and cleaning supplies on hand.

Beautiful Condo with Stunning Views

Our family of four spent 5 days at this property. There were many positives and a few negatives that I will discuss. All in all it was a fantastic trip and we really enjoyed this condo.

The Positives:

Location. This property has stunning views. It is right on the beach and they have a spacious balcony so it is a bot like having your private beach. It was great waking up every day to the view.

Spacious well laid out floor plan. The rooms are ample and the property is laid out nicely. It was more then enough space for the four of us. I imagine that 6 people would be more than comfortable in this condo.

Quite property. There is only 7 units in this property and it appeared that most of the units were rental spaces. It was very quite and we never heard any noise from other tenants. To be fair until our last day we did not have any neighbors however we did not hear them when the occupied the space.

Property Management (Linda) was responsive to our needs. There were a few issues which I will discuss later. That being said Linda was very responsive to our needs.

Located within walking distance to a lot of good restaurants.

Parking Garage. This area is frequented by a lot of surfers and beach goers. Parking on the street can be difficult. This rental comes with a secured parking garage under the unit and can fit two vehicles. I have a large truck and I had no problems parking it.

Plenty of beach towels and beach gear provided. Very nice not to have to pack these.

Negatives:

When we arrived at the property on Friday all of the smoke alarms were chirping. I called the service line and the man tried to walk me through fixing them however this just set them off. They made a service call that evening and fixed them.

Wireless. When they were having me trouble shoot the fire alarms they had me turn off all of the breakers and turn them back on. This knocked out the wireless modem. The modem is actually in the wall behind a secured panel. No one knew where it was including the property management. It was not until the next day late afternoon that a technician was able to come out and fix.

No up elevator access. Since the elevator goes directly into the units I understand why they cannot release the codes however having to pack everything to the top floor is a pain.

All in all I recommend this property. I give it 4 starts because of the minor issues that should have been picked up by the property management prior to our arrival.
