LEO, Teacher, and Military 10% discount! NON-SMOKING CABIN. We have WIFI and satellite TV.
Circa 1920's cabin with all the modern conveniences. This is a small, adorable cabin that can sleep up to five guests, but I would not recommend it for five adults. Four adults and two kids would work, but remember it is 90 years old and rooms were small back in the day! We are pet friendly (additional $25 per dog cleaning fee). We take a lot of pride in the Cabin on Helen and ask that if you are looking for a quiet, clean, quaint and lovely respite, keep reading. If, however, you are in any way disrespectful and planning on being disruptive to our quiet neighborhood please don't consider us.
One night minimum midweek, but two night (Friday/Saturday) minimum for weekends.
The "master" bedroom has a queen sized bed on the main floor. You can stand up in one of the loft bedrooms if you are less than 6' tall, but the other upstairs bedroom you will have to bend over to get to the bed if you are taller than 5'1" tall.
Only 90 minutes from L.A. with NO windy roads!
This time of year the hiking and is amazing. Walk just 10 minutes from the cabin and you'll be in the national forest. You'll find a variety of beautiful pine cones and collect some rare actinolite, a mineral only found in a few places on earth! You might see a deer or bear on your hike. Let the dogs run loose and enjoy their freedom on the levee.
Relax by a rock fireplace after a day of playing in the snow or hiking. We provide one bundle of wood per night. Play board games, read or watch a movie. In April, bask in the scent of the lilac bushes surrounding the property and town. On Memorial Day weekend walk around town to the over 100 yard sales! You'll also get your fill of lemonade and cookie stands that abound!
Walk to town and do a little shopping. You'll find restaurants, gift shops, antique stores, market, bakeries, and ski shops. Every Friday evening there is a Farmers' Market in town, too!
Walk to town and sign up for Big Pines Zipline tour; it's an amazing four hour canopy tour adventure through the treetops just two miles away from the cabin (check their website and book ahead). It's one of the most exhilarating activities I've ever done! Be sure you make reservations ahead of time. It's less than a four mile drive to Mountain High Ski Resort. A few more miles and you'll be at Grassy Hollow visitor center. The Pacific Crest Trail will host thousands of hikers walking from Mexico all the way to Canada!
Mountain High is a quick drive up the highway for skiing, snowboarding and tubing in the winter. Mountain biking (my husband loves the challenging trails) and hiking in that area is a real treat every season of the year!
Motorcyclists love Hwy 2. My husband swears it's some of the premier riding in the nation. Wrightwood really is an amazing, relaxing vacation spot!
The kitchen is fully stocked and is ready for some of your fabulous cooking! There is a market in town, Jenson's,where you're able to purchase any food you might need. However, if you want a break from cooking there are some wonderful restaurants in town. Cinnamon's Bakery is a perfect way to start the day with something sweet or savory. The Blue Ridge Inn is great if you're looking for prime rib or fresh seafood. Most of their entrees are around $25 with salad and fresh bread (if you go there, please tell them Arlene sent you; I used to waitress there!). Their pumpkin bread is amazing! There's also a Mexican Restaurant, Mexico Lindo (prices around $7-12 each) that has excellent food. For breakfast, the Evergreen cafe has fabulous pancakes and the Village Grind has delicious breakfasts as well (they also have 24/7 WIFI service) and often has live music going. The lodge decorated Grizzly Cafe, on Hwy 2, has the best sweet potato fries around and very good sandwiches. Mile High Pizza has a great variety of pizzas and other Italian dishes (and they deliver!) and the most wonderful anti-pasta salad (we get it with their homemade bleu cheese dressing). The Yodeler has outdoor seating and great food/bar as well. I guarantee you, you won't starve in Wrightwood!
There are some wonderful hiking trails that are just a walk away from the cabin. In the notebook of information I have on the kitchen counter you'll find a map that will show you how to get there.
The cabin is on Helen Street. To get there you'll want to get to the 15 North. You'll take it until you reach the 138 (well before Victorville). DON'T miss this exit or you'll have to go many, many miles before there's another exit! The 138 takes you towards Palmdale/Wrightwood heading west (if you go east you'll go to Silverwood Lake). You'll be on the 138 for about eight miles (unless you decide to take Lone Pine Canyon few cars and beautiful scenery!) at which point you'll get to the only stop light and that's at Hwy 2. Head west on Hwy 2 and in five miles you'll be in Wrightwood. When you see homes you're very close! T
