Why Abby Gordon chose Boothbay Harbor Region
Although I just purchased this home at the end of 2010, I have been vacationing in Boothbay my entire life (since the age of three weeks) and my family has been vacationing in the area since 1914, owning property in the region and spending summers here since the 1930s. Whether this is your first time in the region or you have been coming for years, I hope you enjoy your stay to the fullest and discover why this place is so special to me and my family.

A Cozy Place for a Winter Getaway
We enjoyed a week at Portside so much last summer that we decided this would be the perfect place to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary in February. We took champagne and caviar and other food and drinks for the week. We enjoyed the beautiful water view from the living room and started each day there with coffee by the fireplace. That was a favorite spot in the evening, too, for watching movies on the new big screen TV.
Some of our favorite restaurants and coffee shops were closed for the season or had limited hours, but we walked to China by the Sea for lunch a couple of times. Thanks, Abby, for recommending this restaurant. The service was friendly, and the food was wonderful. We also walked to Eventide, a shop where we bought cheese, bread, pate and homemade soup to take back to the cottage.
The quiet time in Boothbay Harbor in February was nice for taking walks every day in the village or across the footbridge. Anyone looking for a peaceful winter vacation, this is the place. Portside is a spacious, yet cozy, luxury condo right in the middle of the village.
We’re looking forward to returning in June, visiting lots of shops and restaurants and spending time on the deck and the dock at Portside.
Perfect cottage for a holiday get-away!
My husband and I have a seasonal cabin in Boothbay Harbor that we love, but we have to close it up and winterize it in October. We live in Pennsylvania and wanted to see the Gardens Aglow exhibit at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens this December and found Abby's cottage on the Home Away website. What a perfect place! Four of us stayed there for a long weekend in early December, but it would have been excellent for six people also. It is well-appointed and Abby has supplied it with just about everything you could possibly need~linens, towels, blankets and extra pillows for the bedrooms, to sugar, spices and condiments in the refrigerator. The cottage was very clean and toasty warm. It was even snowing when we left on Monday morning! Thank you, Abby, for a wonderful, relaxing holiday get-away! (By the way~the light show was excellent!)
I'm thrilled that you and your guests enjoyed! Please visit again soon!
Across the pond
Superb accommodation that was both restful and peaceful. Very handy for all the facilities.
So glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks, Phil!!
Great week at Portside!
This was my family's first trip to Maine and we could not have asked for a better place to stay. Portside was a home away from home. The bedrooms were perfect for our family of six (4 adults, 2 kids) - just enough space so that we were together without being crowded. The kitchen was perfectly appointed with everything we needed to prepare meals and eat together at the dining room table - which also doubled as our poker table! When we were not inside, we were outside on the private deck, lazing on the float, or exploring the shops, restaurants and scenery of Boothbay. Having the kayak rental right next door was a huge plus for us too. We used the YMCA membership every day it was open as well - a great amenity for both the adults and the kids! Abby's effort into making Portside fit every possible need is evident from the collections of books, DVDs and boardgames, the basket of local menus/information, and all the extra touches like binoculars, picnic baskets, and blankets. Well done, Abby! We are looking forward to our next visit!
Thank you, Jennifer! I am so glad you enjoyed. And happy you were able to take advantage of the YMCA membership too. Please do visit again soon!
Perfect Romantic Getaway
Portside Cottage is the ideal place for a relaxing vacation. We parked our car (nice parking spot, by the way) and never moved it all week. The location is great for walking to restaurants and shops and to the Red Cup Coffeehouse where we would pick up blueberry muffins or croissants for the next morning. An almond or chocolate croissant with coffee on our deck at Portside; what a way to start a day!
In the afternoon after lunch at McSeagulls or Boathouse Bistro we'd return to the cottage and sit on the dock. The view from the dock and from the windows in the cottage was super. Some evenings were cool enough to turn on the gas fireplace in the living room, a cozy place to have drinks and snacks and watch a DVD.
When other reviews say, "Abby has thought of everything," that is no exaggeration. We have never stayed at a rental with such a beautiful kitchen that is so well-equipped. Thank you, Abby, for the welcome gift and for the email before our visit about the concert at the Opera House. For us, a week at this luxury condo was a perfect romantic getaway.
I am so glad that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay! I have done the same in the warmer weather--parked the car and not moved it for days!
I do hope you visit again soon! Thank you very much for your kind review!
Portside Back Bay Cottage- Beautiful!
Beautiful place! It was better than I expected! I felt right at home- the perfect home away from home. She provided everything. Although I stayed during the winter, the new addition to the local Y(YMCA) was a nice bonus! Nice therapy pool, swim laps in the lanes, and to conclude your visit, relax in the sauna. I am from Maine myself but I wanted a nice little getaway for my birthday. (Originally from Portland) It was beautiful to have the deck and being right on the water. And the kitchen! Beautiful bar, I enjoyed cooking meals every day I was there. The location is perfect. RIGHT in the heart of downtown Boothbay Harbor. Everything is in walking distance. This place definitely exceeded my expectations and I am looking forward to booking this place again next time I am up!
I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay, Jessica! And honored that you decided to stay here for your birthday. Please come back and visit again soon!
Boothbay Harbor is a small town on the coast of Maine with a year-round population of just over 2,000 people that was established as a fishing camp and whose economy and whose spirit are linked to the fishing industry to this day. Boothbay draws more and more visitors each year, in the summer season, for the fall foliage and to a steadily increasing extent, in the off season months. The town offers numerous boat excursions including trips to nearby islands and whale watching and deep sea fishing tours, historical sites, a world-class botanical garden, an aquarium, numerous shops and art galleries, a network of hiking trails, sea kayaking, sailing, while not losing sight of its small town New England traditions. And of course the seafood cannot be matched anywhere in the world (and believe me, I’ve tried!)
