St Lucia's Best-sited and Most Luxurious Home

The Morne Trulah Estate is a vertiable Mount Olympus, a 7-acre tract of unspoiled rain forest and tropical gardens perched atop a mountain peninsula surrounded 330º by the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Within this Eden rests the ruins of a 17c French fort-- among which one of the world's most outstanding and desirable homes was built in 1964 and restored 2013-2016.

Morne Trulah commands spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea in every direction and from every room. It wants for nothing-- and neither shall you-- as it offers its guests a standard of luxury and seclusion greater than any other in Saint Lucia. You will be treated and feel like royalty.

Lounge Areas  As you enter the residence from the South a twenty-feet high, cantilevered cathedral ceiling lifts your spirits. The soaring rooflines frame sublime water views to the North, South, East and West. Beneath your feet rest 500-year-old Tudor bricks and Welsh slate (i.e. repurposed ballast from ancient trading ships coming to the island from England) and extend from the entrance northward through the covered lanai overlooking an infinity pool and beyond to picturesque Rodney Bay.

To the East  The croquet lawn and vibrant bougainvilla hedges frame Trouya Beach;

Westward  Sunsets beckon and illuminate the unbroken expanse of the Caribbean Sea.

To the North  the historic Pigeon Point stands guard at the entrance to Rodney Bay, protecting the island from any of a number of historical invasions launched from Martinique (which can be clearly seen in the distance on most days).

South, East and West  Whether you like to relax with a good book while perched overlooking Trouya Beach or to sip sunset cocktails while sailing ships float gently by in hope of catching the phenomenal 'green flash' at sunset, Morne Trulah is the island’s most perfect residence.

Cinema Area  Inside a cozy nook off the main living area rests the cinema. Designed for comfortable family viewing, the cinema features a 60-inch Sony Bravia television, Yamaha surround sound and Apple TV.

Chef’s Kitchen  If you choose to cook, this kitchen is a chef’s dream. In addition to 180 degree views over the Caribbean, the kitchen boasts a full assortment of commercial appliances and dinner service.

Dining Area  Just off the kitchen is the dining area-- also featuring 180 degree water views framed by the soaring cathedral ceiling. Some compare the feel of the room to being in a giant tree house overlooking the azure sea below.

Guest Suites  Every Morne Trulah guest debates which bedroom suite has the best views. All have spectacular window walls reaching out to the Sea in two cardinal directions and feature their own newly renovated, ensuite bathrooms featuring double vanities and rain showers. Whether you enjoy night-time sea breezes or air conditioning, you will be cool and comfortable in your King-sized canopy bed. Outside your suite a private wrap-around deck awaits, enabling you to savour the views indoors or out.

Seven Lush Seaside Acres  Morne Trulah enjoys one of the Caribbean’s finest tropical gardens. Cultivated over a fifty-year period by three generations of owners, the gardens host hundreds of orchids, exotic trees and local fauna and flora unique to the island. The gardens were conceived in 1964 to take advantage of St Lucia’s rich volcanic soil, the island’s perfect growing conditions, and Morne Trulah’s spectacular views. The previous owners enlisted the island’s foremost horticulturalist, Veronica Shingleton-Smith (owner of Mamiku Botanic Gardens) to oversee the construction of planting out of the gardens. With a background in London stage design, her creation provides the dramatic structure. More recent works by Michael Mills amended and extended the gardens with the richest soils and collections of the island’s most exotic and endangered plant species. The current owners expanded Ms. Shingleton-Smith's original vision by adding an additional three seaside acres to the garden’s original four. Continuing under the unbroken tutelage of Ms Shingleton Smith, hundreds of tons of volcanic top soil was trucked in and tens of thousands of new plantings were established. Morne Trulah now boasts the island’s largest variety of microclimates, exotic flowering trees, fruit trees, vegetables, herbs and rare plam trees.

½ km Nature Trail  The 2013 addition of three more acres enabled the creation of a private, half-kilometer nature trail that circumnavigates Morne Trulah. Beginning on the west side of the property, one enjoys perfect serenity walking along the top of a seaside cliff shaded by ancient old-growth trees. The pathway itself is covered with a carpet of zoisa grass and meanders through hundreds of coconut palms, bananas, pineapples, citrus, cocoa, passion fruit and scores of other tropical species. The views are uninterrupted across Choc Bay toward Castries Harbour. It is unimaginably beautiful.

The path emerges at the north end of the property where one enjoys uninterrupted views of Martinique and Pigeon Island while strolling amongst the coconut palms and bogenvilla. Around the east side of the property gentle waves crash into Trouya Beach as one winds around to the Morne Trulah vegetable and herb gardens.

Kitchen Garden  As a Morne Trulah guest you are free to pick whatever vegetables, fruits and herbs you like. Or tell one of the gardeners what you would like and they will pick it for you and prepare it for your table. Depending upon the season, enjoy fresh mangoes, pineapples, bananas, watermelon, pumpkin, tomatoes, grapefruit, and many other vegetables and fruits. If you like to cook, help yourself to the fresh thyme, basil, parsley, bay, rosemary and the many other herbs growing.

Croquet Lawn  Morne Trulah boasts the island’s only croquet lawn. Created by the head greenskeeper for the Saint Lucia Golf Club, the green features a 21 metre-long expanse with idyllic, 180 degree views over Rodney Bay toward Pigeon Island and Martinique. The green can also be used for lawn tennis or bowling as well as for large, private events such as weddings and anniversaries. We can seat 400 guests or host 150 for a meal.

Beautiful property with attentive staff

We were looking for a comfortable home away from home and found it at Morne Trulah Estate. The property is exactly as described with beautiful grounds, an incredible infinity pool, and a gormet kitchen that the housekeepers prepare delicious meals from, especially Ms Catherine...along with private bedrooms/bathrooms for everyone in our party, and a very open family space that allows a carribean breeze from three of the four entrances (large sliding glass doors). The homes architecture allows guests to enjoy beautiful views of the gardens, carribean waters and sunsets.

Nicky is the groundskeeper and an incredible host. He looked after all of our needs..recommended many local spots that we wouldn't have experienced without his suggestions. He and Gregory take great care of the property and the grounds are immaculate. The trip wouldn't have been the same without Nicky's attentiveness.

I'd highly recommend this estate to families, couples, friends who want a true carribean experience with luxury..

Wonderful vacation with family!

This was the perfect vacation home for our family . The views were incredible ! We especially enjoyed the infinity pool . Sherman and Sharon could not have been nicer or more helpful. The walk to Trouya Beach was a bit tough and beach not clean, but it was easy drive to Windjammer Resort where we enjoyed beach and restaurant.

We had many experiences we will always cherish in St. Lucia.

Easily one of the top most beautiful properties in the world.

The property was above and beyond expectations. The staff was so nice and a pleasure to have around during the morning and early afternoon. High praise to Sherman ( the grounds help) he was fun to talk to and took the ladies all around the property to show and educate on all the trees and plants. They loved him. Kathy, (maid and morning cook) all food was great and house and quarters very clean. I recommend this place to everyone. Its perfect for 4 couples to enjoy or and family of 8. Views are to die for and hospitality is impeccable. Hope to return in the near future soon.

Easy access to town to the north for shopping, dinning and a casino. Capital city 20 minutes south with more shopping and dinning.

Private Paradise

What do we say about the paradise that was Morne Trouya? Lovely, lovely place. The pictures truly do not do the site and the house justice. The views are breathtaking. Four private master suites with baths (and air conditioning). Each room has a spectacular view! It is close to Rodney Bay. Just a quick 10 minute drive to many restaurants and shopping.

Margueritte will be a wonderful resource take her suggestions on tours and restaurants. We loved our outings with Shall. Delightful man, personable and knowledgable about the island. After he toured us to the waterfall on Wednesday, we rode horses with him on Saturday. Frances was also perfect for my husband and sons' climb up the Piton. He shared so much of the history of the island, while all the time coaching them to a safe climb.

The house staff were excellent! Sherman, Sharon and Katherine were so pleasant and there whenever we needed anything…and not there when we needed privacy. Just perfect. They prepared a lovely breakfast each morning. Sherman spear fishes for lobster and will catch some for you to prepare if you want.

The only thing I would change about our visit would have been to extend it to two weeks instead of one.

Vacation of a lifetime

For anyone wondering if this home could be as wonderful as the reviews say, stop wondering. Our family (two parents with three adult children and their spouses) just spent a glorious week at Morne Trulah. We arrived a family of 8 and feel as if our family grew during our stay and that we had to leave new family members there when we traveled home. To Michael and Brad, thank you for sharing your home and your people. They are all amazing. Margueritte was so helpful and just lovely every step of the way. There are several others that worked very hard to make our stay perfect. Sherman was on the spot with anything we needed to know how to operate, etc., and we all completely fell in love with Catherine. She is a true gem. As my daughter-in-law said, her breakfasts taste like rainbows and glitter.

As far as the actual home, the location is breathtaking. The en suite bedrooms are all so lovely, it was hard for us to choose which one we wanted. The kitchen is professional grade and the living and dining areas are large and were very comfortable for our group. There were so many places to be together or sneak away to a quiet spot for some reading or napping. We enjoyed the villa so much, we found it hard to go sightsee for very long! We will treasure the memory of this week always.

Spectacular, spacious, comfortable

Four couples/15 years of Caribbean travel together......best trip ever.

Morne Trulah ‘s views, bedrooms, openness, pool deck, comfortable chairs and beds, I could go on and on.

The staff with Catherine at the helm could not have been more lovely, accommodating and dependable making our stay relaxing. The concierge service by Margarite was luxe/ all her recommendations being spot on and we appreciated the congeniality of the people of the island.

Brad and Michael were so easy to communicate with and very helpful.

We all could not have had a better time.

St Lucia's Best Sited Home

Morne Trulah began its life as an ancient French fort. The site was re-discovered in 1964, spotted from the cockpit of a King Air flown from Connecticut and enlisted to scout an appropriate compound for four prominent, New England families. The grounds were quickly secured and construction began atop the walls of the 18c French Fort. Then as now, Morne Trulah is considered one of the Caribbean’s most amazing and luxurious homes, boasting spectacular water views from every room.

Morne Trulah was the favorite vacation home for three generations of the original four families and their guests. The residence played host to a bevy of famous literary and media names for almost half a century.

In 2013, the home and grounds were purchased by the current owners. Extensive works to both restore and surpass the home’s former glory began in 2013 and completed in January 2016.

Atop a Peninsula  Morne Trulah is widely regarded as St Lucia’s best-sited home. The residence straddles Trouya Pointe, a high peninsula used by the French to protect both Rodney Bay to the north and Choc Bay to the south. Morne Trulah offers spectacular views of the Caribbean in every direction and from every room.

Centrally Located Morne Trulah is located halfway between the bustling markets in the capital city of Castries and the island’s best restaurants, nightclubs and shops in Rodney Bay. Whether you are in the mood for fine dining, a trek through the rainforest, or relaxing at one of the Caribbean’s best beaches, you are only a few minutes away.

At The Beach Morne Trulah is surrounded by water on three sides – by sheer cliffs to the West and North – and by idyllic Trouya Cove to the East. The cove boasts one of the island’s best small beaches, protected by mountains to the north and south, and naturally shaded by verdant palms, mangroves and [other trees]. One of the island’s best kept secrets, one rarely find more than a family or two at Trouya Beach.

A Historic Fort Over two hundred years ago, Morne Trulah’s prominent vantage point protected both Rodney Bay to the North and Choc Bay to the South. The residence sits astride the walls of the early fort, constructed of local stone, lime, molasses and horse hair. The owners managed to re-open the ancient quarry from which the stones were excavated and engaged the island’s three best masons, who spent two years restoring the walls and sympathetically building new walls sourced from the same stone.

330° Caribbean Views

Trouya BeachThe east side of Morne Trulah enjoys views of this charming cove and beach. One of St Lucia's best kept secrets, this unspoiled beach is seldom occupied and only 200 metres (~4 minutes walk) down the mountain from Morne Trulah. The beach is located about 200 metres from (and about 100 feet below) Morne Trulah's East pedestrian access gate.

Rodney Bay  In 1762 forces commanded by British Admiral George Rodney wrestled the islands of Martinique, St Lucia and Grenada from the French. To celebrate the victory, the Admiral re-named the area’s most prominent bay after himself as Rodney Bay. Today the interior of the bay’s five-mile crescent contains the West Indies’ largest yacht harbour, the island’s best restaurants and its most popular beaches. At each end of the bay’s crescent, rugged, natural beauty prevails in the form of Trouya Pointe and Morne Trulah to the South and Pigeon Island to the North.

Pigeon Island  Three miles north of Morne Trulah sits Pigeon Island, now a National Park. From any room with a northern exposure, one can see the old military fortifications.

Martinique  Twenty miles beyond Pigeon Island lay the French island of Martinique- clearly visible day and night. Martinique being a much larger island than St Lucia, at night its lights run across the entire expanse of the northern exposure. On particularly clear nights one can even see the headlights of cars traversing across the island!

Barrel of Beef Rock Situated just a few hundred metres Northwest of Morne Trulah, the rock was so named because it was once used by French soldiers at Morne Trulah to safely store barrels of beef. Today, one is more likely to see the flocks of the protected sanctuary, scuba divers and fishermen than French soldiers on the rock.

Choc Bay/Castries Best viewed from any south-facing bedroom, the kitchen or from the West Dining deck, watch cruise ships arrive in the morning and leave each evening.
