Photos and Description of this 3 bedroom holiday cottage in Red Hook - Goose Landing Lake Cottage

2 bedroom 1-1/2 bathrooms

This cottage is new on the market. A 2 minute walk down a pathway through the woods leads to your own private dock on a beautiful spring fed lake with 2 kayaks. The cottage is surrounded by 50 year-old pine trees, perennials, and native trees .It is situated on our four-acre property and is very private, quiet, serene, and just steps to lake front. Relax in the outdoor hot tub overlooking the woods. The cottage has an open kitchen, dining and sitting area with large pine beams, vaulted ceilings and a beautiful view of the woods. The kitchen is fully equipped. The dining areas, both inside and out seat four people. The living room is very inviting, featuring a Vermont casting gas stove . The bathroom has a claw foot tub with shower, with all the amenities: hair dryer, ironing board, washer and dryer, plenty of bath and lake towels.

There are 2 bedrooms on the main level,. 1 has have a full-size bed with door that leads out to a beautiful garden. The other is a queen bed. The cottage also has a private patio with a hot tub, gas BBQ. A short 2 minute walk down a wooded path from the cottage leads you to your own floating dock. There are lounge chairs, a table and chairs, a porch swing, and a hammock -- all private and overlooking the lake. Take a dip in the spring-fed lake which is clean and refreshing. Enjoy a paddle in the kayak. You may see painted turtles basking in the sun on fallen logs, Canadian geese and sometimes swans drop by. If you wake up early, don't be surprised if you see wild turkeys, deer, fox, or red tailed hawks. They're all very common in our area.

The charming villages of Rhinebeck, Tivoli and Red Hook offer many choices for restaurants and nightly entertainment -- and are only about 10 - 20 minutes from our cottage. The Fisher Center on the grounds of Bard College is also only a 15 minute drive. There are historical estates such as Montgomery Place, Clermont and Olana (our favorite ). There is also Innisfree Garden in nearby Millbrook (Deanna's favorite garden). Cities such as Great Barrington, Woodstock, Millerton, Millbrook and Hudson are a bit further but worth the drive.

About Bruce or Deanna Gardom

Deanna and I came from the West Coast in 1999 and thought we would be here in the Hudson Valley a year or 2 and go back. It didn't happen. We fell in love with the area and all it has to offer. The lake is a special place. Bruce came from a background of Hotel Management and Deanna's family had a Bed and Breakfast in Napa Valley. She has been a flight attendant for many years and with both of our backgrounds, having a vacation rental is good fit for us, enabling us to share our love of the Hudson Valley. We travel quite a bit and try to offer all of the amenities in our vacation rental that we enjoy having when we travel. We started the Painted Turtle Cottage 13 years ago and just recently started our second vacation rental, Spring Lake Cottage. Hope you enjoy it is a magical place.

Why Bruce or Deanna Gardom chose Hudson Valley

Our property is in a wonderful location in the Hudson Valley, situated on a beautiful spring fed lake with 160 ft of private lake front.

Valley and enables you to experience so many different things. Restaurants, Historic Mansions, charming villages, antiquing, gardens, and more. It is only 2 hours from New York City and an hour flight from Albany Airport if you are coming from out of state.

What makes this cottage unique

The lake is small and inviting. Floating on the lake, kayaking in the spring and seeing baby turtles swim by is magical. There are no motor boats allowed, so you can enjoy nature at its finest. You will see a large variety of birds as we provide bird feeders.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My friends and I just experienced the most delightful and relaxing weekend getaway! The house is immaculately clean with a kitchen that is fully equipped for delicious meal-making. The living room and kitchen area are perfect gathering places for social time together and the bedrooms screened in porch and beautiful sitting areas in the gardens are perfect for quiet time. Relaxing in the Hot Tub after a refreshing swim in the lake was my favorite. We loved every minute and are already trying to plan our return visit!

Bruce and Deanna are wonderful hosts and extremely accommodating. I recommend this to anyone looking for a quiet retreat and time with your favorite people.

Relaxing and wonderful getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights and we had an excellent and relaxing getaway. The cottage was clean, the beds are extremely comfortable and the AC worked great which is very welcome in the summer heat. I loved sitting on the patio with the chickens and chipmunks running around and many different types of birds happily feeding themselves from the bird feeder. I saw deer and fawns twice! As others have said , it is a short walk to the private dock (make sure to look out for the sign with Goose Landing Lake path) I loved having my morning coffee out there and we enjoyed the use of the kayaks to explore the lake.

Red Hook and Rhinebeck are close enough and offer great restaurants to dine at.

We appreciated all of the extra touches ... area recommendations, eggs, milk, juice, coffee, pancake mix, organic chocolate, the use of natural products (hand soap, shower gel etc) and leaving the AC on to welcome us as we arrived on a hot day.

Would love to return.

Perfect in nearly every way

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely incredible stay at the cottage. First impression was that the cottage looked exactly like the pictures we saw on the site. The whole place was very clean, had enough of everything we needed (linens, blankets, towels, etc.). Beds and couch were quite comfy.

The walk to the lake was easy (less than 90 seconds, really) and the private dock was great to watch the sunset on. Kayaking, swimming and just floating on the raft were our favorite things to do all day. The lake was very clean and quiet, and the few people that we did cross paths with were friendly.

We picked up groceries in town (<15 minute drive) and cooked all of our meals in the cottage. We had everything we needed to make the meals. However, be sure you bring enough butter/oil (was tough to clean the non-non-stick pans at times)!

Time of year was great - never too hot and we got to watch some rain from inside. It never got too warm in the cottage (but the porch got a little toasty without a breeze). Set up with internet (WiFi) and satellite TV which all worked very well.

We didn't do much else in the town besides grabbing groceries because we didn't want to leave the cottage/lake! Would highly recommend the whole experience.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect setting for our family getaway. My husband and I wanted to take the kids away for a long weekend. Our criteria included ; comfortable accommodations, walking distance to a lake, close proximity to good hiking and bike trails and be within a 20 minute drive of a town that offered good restaurants and fun shops to explore for some down time.

The cottage exceeded our expectations. We were pleasantly surprised when it looked even more appealing in person than the photos on VRBO. It was recently renovated and we found the décor to be warm and inviting as well as very comfortable. The cottage itself was absolutely spotless.

The equipment provided with the cottage rental made the trip that much easier for us. The kayaks were great fun on the lake and the adult bikes provided were perfect for our outings. The pergola was furnished with lounge chairs so we could relax by the water and read a good book.

We highly recommend this cottage rental and our family is looking forward to our next visit.

Bruce is an excellent host. The property is wonderful. We immediately felt like home. We had a blast at the lake canoeing, swimming and fishing. I caught a huge bass. Will visit again.

Love the cottage & lake!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely weekend we enjoyed at the cottage. It's charming and comfortable and has all the comforts of home. We slept late on comfy beds and enjoyed the peace and quiet of being in the country. We took the kayak & canoe out for a tour around the lake, it's still chilly out, but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We will return home renewed! Thanks Bruce & Deanna for a great weekend. We will be back!
