About Richard and Ruby Franco

Ruby and I originally came across this property with other family members as we were looking for a place between Austin and Dallas where we could spend our Easters together as a large family.. We had this property for a number of years just clearing and working on the property with family and friends until one Easter when Grandpa Sanchez showed up with a shell of a building that he built in his backyard and transported up here in pieces. Ruby and I finished this building, which is now the bunkhouse. Our builder and friend Pat Small built the small kitchen and bath for us . Grandpa has since built the pavilion that we now use as well.

Richard and Ruby Franco purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Richard and Ruby Franco chose Texas

This location is perfect to meet our family for weekends together and such, since we live in Austin and Ruby's sisters and their families live in the Dallas/Ft Worth Area. They also own 3 traditional cabins in this area as well.

What makes this cabin unique

The design of this cabin is very different from most vacation rentals as the bunkhouse is separate from the kitchen and bath, and connected by a wooden walkway. I guess what we have is more of a small campground / compound than a traditional cabin.

Our Cabin is the last in a series of 4, with our cabin designed for singles, couples, or small families.

Perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful location! Absolutely wonderful for a weekend break away from the city. The cabins are well maintained and the lake is just a short walk away. Don't be put off if the cabins seem hot when you first arrive; the AC units are amazing and easily managed to make the rooms cool in just a few minutes even in the middle of summer. Loved everything about this place and will be making another trip here for sure!

Wonderfully Away From It All!

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to grab this cabin last minute and glad we did. If you like seclusion you need to come here. The area is beautiful. There are 2 buildings. One is the kitchen and bathroom with the other a living room/bedroom. Although different, we really liked set up and the interior was very nice rustic. The kitchen was the most well stocked I've seen. The weather was hot while we were there but the Bunkhouse building had ac that would freeze you if you wanted! We watched deer and rabbits in the meadow and our 2 pooches were loving running around without leashes. There is a small Pavillion with a charcoal cooker that has heavy duty cast iron grates.

We are planning to come back in the fall.

Very clean and comfortable accommodations.

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for peace and quiet, not a lot of people around, this is the place for you. Very homey and rustic. It is still close enough to town if you need to run to the grocery store for something, unless the fridge already has it. Well stocked. If you long to be in a cozy cabin in the woods with amenities of home, try Trinity Trails Ranch Texas Oaks cabin. Loved it!

Very Quiet, Relaxing, and Away from the World

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I booked two nights to celebrate our anniversary. The property is very nice at sunrise and sunset (tip: we did bring and use a bug-away candle) and very quiet. There was very limited cell reception, which was perfectly fine since we were intending to escape the calls and disconnect for a few days. We did not go down to the lake, but it didn't look far from the map - instead, we drove into Hillsboro to the farmer's market before we fired up the grill for dinner. Everything we needed was provided, all we had to do was bring our food! Since it is the outdoors, there were plenty of critters, like frogs and birds and squirrels, and, after checking out on our last day, we saw deer running through a nearby field. While non-traditional, having the separate cabins for sleeping and kitchen wasn't terrible at all; it actually helped let my husband sleep in while I brewed up a cup of coffee and relaxed with a book on the bench. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to unwind from the hectic city life!

Awesome little cabin.

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time for a short weekend get away. Easy access to the cabin. A short walk to the water. Quiet and relaxing. Fridge was even stocked with the basic mustard ketchup stuff you forget. Owners very flexible and accommodating with my early check in and out requests.
