This neo classic beach house sits on a tidal pond with the most beautiful beach on the island at the end of your driveway. You don’t need a car, as it is just a short walk to the ferry dock and town. A post and beam house with loftlike spaces, the downstairs has a kitchen/living/dining area and French doors opening out onto a covered porch oceanside and a back deck with water views.

The master bedroom, with king bed and huge en suite bathtub, looks out to sea with a private balcony. The Green Room has a queen bed and its own balcony, while the Birds' Nest has four twin beds, two up a ladder in a loft. Two rooms share a separate bath with walk-in rain shower. Grounds are complete with outdoor shower, lily pond, lawns for croquet, boogie boards, goldfinches and pheasants. Wifi but no TV! Laze in hammocks and rediscover peace and love. Sleep to the sound of the waves.

About The Owner

A former journalist (People, Life) and now vacation property owner/manager on Block Island, once known as Claudia's Island, Claudia Glenn Dowling has honed her bedmaking skills and seldom travels without a truckload of substandard chairs.

Why The Owner chose Rhode Island

I ran a surf shop, Claudia's Surf City, in the summers long ago. With my brother, a skilled carpenter, we converted it into a cottage. When my daughter got married, the family expanded, and we built Hannah's Honeymoon Hideaway, a post and beam house. Our first guests came in 2006, and we continue to improve Hannah's Hideaway every year, polishing it, if possible, to a brighter sheen. It is now the sine qua non of simplicity, functioning as perfectly as a beach house as a shell for a nautilus. You can see more pix and videos in links on Claudia's Surf City

What makes this cottage unique

Though on the beach and close to the ferry dock and town, you can retreat to a private world that feels far from mainland cares. After even a weekend on Block Island you feel as if you've had a wonderful break from reality.

The happy house!

truly a special place that has brought so much joy to our family. simple yet so perfect. amazing location, walk to everything. ditch your car for the week. cross the road to the beach or head right for a cocktail. the house is super cozy and has everything you could ask for. fabulous front porch--would love to see new furniture out there bc we literally live out there but otherwise just heaven on earth!!!

The property met all of our expectations. House was clean. Location was perfect. Enjoyed ready access to the beach and town. Owner checked in to make sure all was well. Opening the front and back doors to let the breeze flow through the house was spectacular.

Can't count the number of years we have returned to this property; not only is the location perfect but the quality of the house and the casual comfort it affords a family or group is unsurpassed. Heaven on Earth!

The best place to be on Block Island is right here. This was our second stay and I cry every time I have to leave. The house is perfect and has everything you need. You will feel relaxed and calm the moment you open those doors and breath in that ocean air. The location cannot be beat because you can walk everywhere. Our favorite place to watch the sunset is The Oar, make sure you go and try the fried chicken and mudslides. There are so many places on the island to explore and you will never feel rushed because that is the way there. We would spend our days on Mansion Beach with our dogs and go for long walks all through the day. The owner is the greatest and is so gracious to share her beautiful home with all of us. I cannot wait to return next year.

Great place, exceeded expectations!

This house is directly across from the beach and a short walk into town. its super comfortable, funky stylish and has virtually everything you need. The owner was super helpful and responded quickly via email to any questions before and during our stay. It was our first trip to BI and we had a lot of questions! We went clamming (get licenses!) and cooked our haul as clams casino. Had lobsters sent in on the ferry (cooked in the house's lobster pot), went to the beach, rented bikes and mopeds from Aldo's (Leo was super helpful), and generally just chilled. The only minor miss is no TV for late nite DVD's/movies (our family's tradition). Not much to do in BI after 8P unless you are a barfly. We knew there was no TV up front and we just read more books. Can't beat the outdoor shower, never used the indoor one! You won't be disappointed by this house and the owner is a gem.

Owner's Response: Tnx so much! Appreciate your kind words! I should mention that there are two movie theaters on Block Island, though you might have already seen the movies! Many people bring their computers to play DVDs. Sadly island Internet is too slow to stream or download.
