About Doreen Pavlik

We purchased this property in 2003 as an interim destination until, and while, we built our waterfront dream cabin in 2013 nearby. We loved every minute of our stay in this little rustic cabin. We purchased waterfront in 1994 with the dream of building on it, but until that was possible, we enjoyed this little cabin. We have developed a love for the beauty and rustic feel of the UP. This little cabin has the feel of waterfront, the smell of waterfront, the sound of waterfront, and a partial view like waterfront....but just a short walk across the street to the public access. It's our joy to offer a stay for your relaxation and break from the media saturated world around you and retreat to a slower pace, with campfires, beach walks, hiking, swimming and many fun filled day trips.

Why Doreen Pavlik chose Upper Peninsula Michigan

This property is a break from the fast pace media saturated world. No in house internet access, but locally available, no cable TV, limited local stations with a VHS video player, totally "old school" complete with a selection of movies. It's our hope that our guests will be so busy enjoying the outdoor beauty, day trips and playing games with family that media won't be necessary except for a nice cup of coffee at the Dancing Crane Coffee Shop to "check up" on your Facebook or emails with their free WiFi access just 3 miles down Lakeshore Dr. The smell of real firewood burning in the woodstove touches off the rustic ambiance of those cool UP evenings or a campfire with marshmellows roasting or hot dogs lightly charred!

What makes this cabin unique

Watching freighters passing on their way through to the Soo Locks and on to the St.Lawrence Seaway. Breathtaking sunsets and beautiful "public" beach that only the locals know about right across the street, long walks on the beach and the beautiful vintage Point Iroquois Lighthouse just a short walk down the beach is a destination in itself.

Great vacation

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was cozy, had everything we needed. It was a great base camp to explore the UP. Beautiful, quiet beach across the street.

Welcoming cabin with all the needed amenities

  • 5 of 5

This cabin feels like home. Doreen has it set up well. We were able to easily start a fire in the fireplace with the fire starter packages that were already prepared, (don't forget to open the flue damper! Or you may fill the cabin with smoke, not that we did that or anything LOL). It was nice to set by the fireplace and play cards. Lake Superior is across the street with a nice beach to take walks on. The nightly cost of the rental is affordable. Overall a very good experience for my family and I.

A Rejuvenating Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Doreen is an excellent and thoughtful host, and she made our stay as pleasant as she possibly could. The cabin itself I'd give a four out of five. Location is amazing, and there are things we loved, like the kitchen, and the rustic nature (no service, no wi fi is what we were after!). But part of it is a concrete floor, and it didn't have the feel of some all-wood cabins we've loved. Nevertheless, we'd do this vacation all over again all things considered. This is the perfect home base to see extraordinary sights across the UP. And when we were tired of hour-long drives, there was plenty to do right around the corner, and right across the street.

Owner's Response: Funny you should mention the original concrete floors, which are covered by the way with a mold/mildew resistant commercial grade carpeting, are actually part of the history of this little place. We understand it's original intention was to be a service station but never completed. It was then used to dry/repair and store fishing nets until our previous owner who had masonry skills purchased it and resurfaced the cinderblock structure with Lake Superior stone and Cedar. He built all the kitchen cabinetry, cozy wood walls and added the unique "salvage" touches. We have nicknamed the place "BedRock" since it looks like a place Fred Flintstone would love!

Rustic Cabin on Lake Superior

  • 5 of 5

What a charming cabin! Brought our 2 grandchildren (10 and 5) and son to the UP for a week at the end of June. Cabin had everything we needed except good cell phone coverage, however that was not a problem for us since we were there to relax and enjoy the outdoors. With good service right down the road, it was not a problem. Great location to see the sights and to visit the Soo. Definitely would return and would recommend to anyone looking for a real "cabin" feel. Thanks Doreen!

Beautiful vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5

We could view Lake Superior from the cottage, and there is easy access to the beach quite near the cabin. Many tourist attractions are an easy few miles away. The owner of the cottage had it stocked so we wanted for nothing. The interior is all knotty pine, which added to the ambiance. We would definitely recommend this over an impersonal hotel.

Owner's Response: These three brothers were the best! They even washed up their own laundry! Kudos to you!

Great fun

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time on Lake Superior. Taquamenon Falls were beautiful, as was our public/private beach across the street. Enjoyed Sault Ste Marie and St. Ignace. Our cabin was cozy and the perfect size for us. Doreen, our owner, even left us some tasty monkey bread! Great trip.
