Our hideaway is built with love:
- 10 ft wide drop down movie screen
- dining table on hoist
- steam shower
- middle of Dal campus
- stone heated floors
- hidden queen bed, bunkbed, kitchen
- 3 bicycles and use of local phone (iphone)
Using natural and used building products where possible, the space was designed to be rustically luxurious, playful, creative and welcoming.
The 10 ft wide otherwise recessed movie screen comes down when the apple iTV (with access to netflicks, etc.) is turned on and is best viewed while in the hot tub or while lounging on a 9 piece sectional couch.
Inspired by the mini-house movement, when the table in the back area is lowered the back area functions as a board room (or as a dining room when the L-shaped hidden kitchen armoire is opened). And when the in-wall control for the electric hoist is pressed, the table disappears and raises against the ceiling so the luxurious queen murphy bed can be pulled down from built in custom designed furniture when it is bedtime.
The hidden sliding glass doors will allow you to keep the entire space open-concept, or gain privacy in the bedroom area and/or hot tub area as you desire.
In the winter, the 2" thick stone floor is heated by in floor heating as well as the NG fireplace. Water is heated in part by solar panels.
The steam shower competes well against the 6-8 person Hottub (4 ft deep, recessed into the ground 1 ft) for most relaxing. Every light in the space is dimmable and ready for whatever mood you want to create.
3 bicycles are available for use as is an iPhone with a local number (which requires you to pay the applicable local SIM card fees).
The space is the basement of a 110 year old well maintained heritage home in Halifax. Access is through a dedicated arched medieval church like door on the side of the house. Another dedicated glass french door serves as a second entrance.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
We live upstairs and use the space when it is not rented. The space is separated from upstairs by multiple doors and to the greatest extent possible it has been soundproofed so your stay should be wonderfully relaxing and as isolated as you would like to make it.
As the house is located at the center of Dalhousie university, there is a 2 hr parking ban on week days (nights and weekends are ok). Our driveway is long enough to fit multiple cars (although it may take some coordination of keys if for some reason we are not going to work that day as it is a single lane driveway). Generally the entire driveway is available so parking shouldn't be an issue.

The apartment was great! Well laid out, modern and beautifully designed. Chris was also very helpful and responsive.
Chris was an excellent host. He helped with everything we could need. His suite is very functional and unique. It was comfortable for the two of us and our two adult daughters. Walked almost everywhere in downtown Halifax and the university area. Really enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it.
What an amazing place to be able to rest your head at night! I can confidently say it is the cleanest place I have ever stayed at. All you will need is provided for you from towels to necessities in the bathroom to all dishes in a beautifully designed kitchen! Take advantage of the hot tub it is amazing to relax in at the end of your night! Its is only a 5$ cab ride to the inner core of the city you can walk it in 15min but it was a snow storm that night for us! Looking forward to staying here again. Christen has definitely got himself a wonderful gem here in Halifax!
We loved our stay here! It was very clean and well maintained. The hot tub was amazing. Christian was very thoughtful and left us chocolates and wine. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!
The space was redone nicely and is incredibly unique. The bed is comfortable, nice steam shower, and location is convenient to the waterfront and Halifax Public Gardens. This was all within walking distance and cabs are easy to call for if you need to go further.
The space is well kept and clean. Christian was so friendly and helpful!
A most enjoyable getaway in the city, with a very charming ambience. The creatively designed space felt like it was somewhat of a spiritual retreat and I'd definitely love to return as well as recommend to friends & family.
A very pretty setting in a great location downtown, within walking distance to the Public Gardens. It was the perfect fit for our Girls Weekend!
The owner was very accommodating, friendly as well as being a helpful host.
