Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Riverfront Chalet

Fish and relax just feet from the Nottely River! One of a kind riverfront property located on the beautiful Nottely River and next to a 25 acre meadow. The new Harrah's Cherokee Valley River Casino is just a 20 minute drive - but a world away! Enjoy the wild turkey, deer, and abundant wild life, or go trout fishing just feet from the chalet. Relax on the covered porch or the riverside gazebo as you listen to the rapids from the fish trap that was made by the indigenous Indians in times gone by. True end of the road privacy!

For the kids, the Trout Chalet has Ping Pong, air hockey, and Xbox 360. Everybody is happy!

The property includes two 1,200 sq. ft. chalets and is located just 15 minutes from Murphy NC and Blairsville GA. Antique shops and flea markets are just minutes away. Rent one or both chalets for the perfect getaway! Combined, the two chalets sleep 10. The Tranquil Chalet sleeps 6 and the Trout Chalet sleeps 4. This listing is for the Trout Chalet.

Our family spent years camping. We always hoped to get one of the camp sites next to the creek at Vogel State Park so we could relax to the sounds of the rushing water. That rarely happened…

As my wife and I grew older, we got tired of the walk to the communal bathroom, lousy showers, lack of privacy, and the not so great sleep in the camper. As our kids grew older, the allure of sleeping in a tent with no WiFi faded so we set out in search of the next best thing that allows us to enjoy all of the outdoor benefits of camping, but with all the comforts of home. We found it at River Run!

We chose this property because it is very unique and incredibly relaxing. The property is located at the end of a mile long dirt road on a level 1 acre fenced lot. You can rent one or both chalets depending on your needs. The covered wrap-around metal roofed porches are just feet from the Nottely River. You can fish, hike, go antiquing, sit by the fire and listen to the river, BBQ on the outdoor grill, watch the cows graze across the river, or just sit on the porch in the rockers and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Nottely River.

The two chalets offer something for all members of the family to enjoy while on vacation:

• Husband can trout fish while the wife goes antiquing. The best of both worlds!

• Rent both chalets and give your teenagers the privacy they want and the privacy you desire.

• Ideal for two families to vacation together and still give each other privacy.

• Ideal for a family reunion.

• Do the adults want to sleep in a real bed and take a shower in a real bathroom but the kids want to camp? We have tents and sleeping bags for the kids so they can sleep in the great outdoors next to the fire. Kind of like camping but much better for the adults!

• Kayak or tube down the Nottely River. The property is 2.5 miles downstream from Nottely dam. You can get into the river at the base of the dam.

• Rent a pontoon boat on nearby Lake Nottely.

The fish themed Trout Chalet is designed to be giant game room with beds. It includes WiFi, vintage Xbox 360, Ping Pong, and air hockey. Got a moody teenager with friends who want their privacy? Or wants to play their music too loud? Or wants to watch something different on TV? No problem! The Trout Chalet is the perfect kid’s getaway while you enjoy the peace and relaxation of the Tranquil Chalet. They are happy and you are happy! Perfect!

The Tranquil Chalet is more refined and is ideal for those looking for a more relaxed experience with just the adults in mind, but the kids are welcome! They just won’t have as much fun as staying in the Trout Chalet…

Trout Chalet (Green Metal Roof)

• The Trout Chalet is fish themed and designed like a giant game room with beds. It includes Ping Pong, XBOX 360, and an air hockey table.

• Sleeps 6

• 2 Bedrooms, 2 full baths

• Rock fireplace

• Fully stocked kitchen

• Porch rockers

• Wrap around covered front porch. Porch is 50 feet from Nottely River.

Property includes:

• WiFi

• Gazebo with dining table on the river.

• 1 acre fenced-in lot

• Fire pit

• Outdoor grill

• Cell phone reception

• Beautiful canopy of huge River Birch.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My daughter just got engaged over the weekend in this beautiful location. Both families stayed in the two very spacious cabins. The gazebo overlooking the Nottely River was the perfect location for the surprise proposal. Even though it rained the entire weekend, the cabins have covered porches so we were still able to enjoy the outdoors and the tin roofs added to the charm. Kevin and Barbara have done such a wonderful job with these two cabins.....they lack for nothing. The kids enjoyed playing air hockey and ping pong and fishing from the gazebo. The fenced in yard is very spacious and situated in such a way that the kids could enjoy the outdoors while being watched by the adults who were able to sit under the porch and gazebo in comfort. My favorite part (outside of my daughter getting engaged) was waking up early on Sunday morning, sitting in the still of the day on the gazebo drinking my coffee and watching two coyotes play in the field across the river......I could get used to that!

Beautiful and peaceful

  • 4 of 5

Loved the location and amenities. Everything was wonderful. Only thing I would have changed would be to not be so close to the neighbors kind of felt a little less private.

Beautiful location. Close to civilization yet so far away.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful place to get away from it all. Had everything we needed for a wonderful time. Plenty to do but also ideal place to just sit on the porch and read a book or drink some coffee. Highly recommended and hope to go back soon!

Nice chalet on the river

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed the trip, time away from home to reflect on what we are thankful for. The chalet was nice and cozy inside. My child got stung by flying insect on first night while sitting on couch so everyone thought "bees". Turned out there were wasp nests under the eve of roof above doorway. Yellow paper wasps, which we have red ones here in Alabama. Really liked the fog that was ever present on the river. Made a nice campfire and roasted snores one night. Grass was a bit high and wet, had to carry all luggage across yard to get it to the house without a real walkway of sorts. Neighbor said person had not been there to cut that week. Daughter likes the x box, which had some good kids games. Some were missing already from previous tenants I'm sure, but plenty to keep her busy. The only thing I was hoping for with a river front property was a convenient water access point, but the bank was heavily overgrown during our trip and water level fluctuated several feet due to dam release which prevented us from getting in and relaxing. Went to nantahala and hung out along the river there watching rafters make their way downstream to get our river fix. Wife found some antiques she couldn't leave behind, and the blue ridge train ride was fun, although seemed a bit pricey. Had some neighbors at other chalet which meant sharing the river porch patio, but they were nice folks and also from Alabama. we carried a trailer as usual and found the road in, as well as parking area fairly difficult to maneuver. Gravel road was long and one lane only, and lots of land owners using it to be so narrow. The rain made traction difficult on some of steep areas with 2wd and trailer weight but was ok in dry weather. Recommendations are to trim trees at parking area, a bit larger parking area maybe for turning around with trailer? Maybe a stone or gravel path to cabins or simply cut grass lower in those paths. The river front was beautiful and would love to see some steps leading down to it and the poison ivy killed off. The field next door was 3-4 feet high and not inspiring enough to walk through for the wife to go with me, although I found the nook in the bank to get to waters edge and sat there a little while. Hope to come back and get in the river next time. Thanks for the cozy amenities inside the trout chalet!

The property was very nice. Loved the beautiful meadow and the river that ran behind the property.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the long drive that led back to the property! Our girls loved passing by the goat farm that was at the beginning of the drive. The chalet was very nice and clean. At night, we enjoyed playing Air Hockey and Ping Pong. We also, relaxed by the fire pit at night. The gazebo was perfect for sitting by the river and enjoying the view! We were able to sit out there at night and play cards with the kids. It was really a nice and peaceful place to stay on our vacation!

Oasis at the end of the road!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was true to descriptions! Lots of private space, peaceful. Owners were wonderful!

It would be a great place to gather with several couples, or hold a mini family reunion.

We loved the fire pit. Simplicity at its best....

OH!!! One thing you MUST know: our (up-to-date) GPS (google maps) took us to the wrong place! Grrrrr Warning: if yours tells you to turn left on T. Chapel Road DO NOT do this!!!! Simply go another 1/2 mile or so and turn left onto Jim Cordell Road and you will find Barn Yard (2 words!) Road on the right about a mile down Jim Cordell Road. (The owner DID supply directions but we follow GPS!) Hopefully Google Maps will update !

BEAUTIFUL GET AWAY

  • 5 of 5

The outdoor setting by the stream is beautiful and remote.

The 2 Chalets share a common area (fire pit and grille and gazebo overlooking the Creek).

Would be an ideal site for family vacations .The Chalets are like new, well furnished sparkling clean and very thoughtfully decorated and equipped. Was an easy drive to the smokey mountain attractions. We spent a day in Bryson City where we enjoyed the steam railroad tour .
