The Black Bear Inn offers many unique options for 1 to 16+ guests. The Bunkhouse Vacation Rental Cabin can accommodate 3, The Eagles Nest Vacation Rental Apartment can accommodate up to 4, and the main Black Bear Inn can host 12 when rented as a Vacation Rental. When the main Inn is not rented out as a Vacation Rental, it functions as a Bed and Breakfast. Each bedroom suite overlooks the Ocean and has a private baths. The B&B units can accommodate one night stays. The Vacation Rentals require a 2 night minimum stay. The Inn is open year round. Prices listed on HomeAway are for the Bunkhouse Cabin.

Ravens and Seagulls perch in the Sixty-year-old Spruce and Cedars that border the property’s park-like garden setting. Multilevel decking wraps around the Inn, providing outstanding spots to sit back and watch wildlife, float planes, barges, fishing boats, world-class yachts, Alaska ferries, and cruise ships. The covered outdoor Hot Tub, fire pit and BBQ building, on the waters edge, is the most romantic place to watch Ketchikan’s majestic sunsets. There is an outdoor crab cooker, fish smoker and fish cleaning area for guests to prepare their catch of the day and a freezer to store fish boxes.
Laundry service is provided, free of charge, to all guests. The Inn is non-smoking, but covered porches can be used for smoking. Arrangements must be made in advance if there are small children in the group. Pets are accepted in the cabin with prior approval.
Nicole a former teacher, and university and hospital administrator, with degrees in education, art, interior design and psychology. She also has an extensive background in the performing arts and has had her own business in public relations, marketing and interior design for years. Cooking and landscaping are two of her favorite pas-times. She enjoys swapping recipes and gardening tips, giving interior decorating advise and sharing information on how to smoke fish.
Jim and Nicole are also avid readers and have a strong interest in American and World History and well as current events
Nicole's husband Jim Church, is forth generation Alaskan. He worked with the family business until his father’s death in1978. His experiences as a DuPont Explosive distributor, float plane pilot, tugboat operator, fisherman, and business owner have provided him with extensive knowledge about Alaska’s history and the typography of South East Alaska.

Jim and Nicole bought the property in 2004. They designed and built the Inn themselves with the help of a few friends.They were motivated by the knowledge that there was a real need for water front accommodations where guests could feel they had found their 'home away from home' and would go back home knowing they had experienced the best Ketchikan had to offer.
The property is magical. It offers all who visit, a private, peaceful, unique place to relax and enjoy nature. Everything needed for a outstanding stay is provided. Jim and Nicole will fill you in on all of the best places to go and things to see and do. You will feel like the Black Bear Inn is your home away from home.
You will not be bored in Ketchikan. With dozens of attractions designed to educate and/or entertain everyone from the history buff and the outdoor enthusiast to the naturalist or Native art lover, there aren’t enough days in a week to take them all in!

Please look over our cancellation policy. From May through September cancellations must be made 60 days ahead a time, for the deposit to be returned. In all cases a $50 cancellation fee and a credit card processing charge will be retained from the deposit. When the cancellation involves more than one room, the cancellation fee is higher. If the cancellation is made after the cut off date a credit is given. The credit is good for 2 years and can be used by the original guest or anyone they choose to give or sell it to.
Full payment is required, at the time of booking, for the first one to three nights stay. A 50% reservation deposit is required at the time of booking, if the stay is for six nights or more. The balance is due upon arrival. Personal Checks, Cashier Checks, Cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discovery, and American Express payments are accepted.
