Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday villa in Lahaina - Kapalua Ridge Villa

Villa, 2 Bedrooms Fully remodeled + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, Sleeps 4-6)

This family owned home features hand carved furniture & fantastic, 180 degree ocean views to Molokai. The remodel, completed in 2012, includes granite counter tops, tile floors, new appliances, & air conditioning.

The two separated bedrooms each have a king-sized bed & adjoining expansive bathrooms. The master bedroom boasts a a small wall safe for your valuables & a separate lanai overlooking the ocean. The views from every window are private & landscaped. The couch makes into a queen-sized bed. The 3rd bathroom, complete with a shower, is accessible to your guests or for those sleeping in the living room. A Graco Pack & Play is available. Three HD TV's, Wifi, Ipod dock, 4 telephones with free long-distance to U.S. and Canada, cable TV, & high speed Roadrunner Turbo internet connection keep you in touch with the world while the plush lanai furniture beckons the visitor to sit back & enjoy the ocean views.

The villa is located next to world class golf courses (The Kapalua, The Bay Course & the world-famous Plantation). All have many breath-taking vistas. As a guest of our villa we can give you a discount on two courses - just ask.

Fine beaches, judged by many as the best in Maui, are minutes away either by the free, door-to-door Kapalua Resort Shuttle; your car; or by walking - Kapalua Beach; D. T. Fleming Beach; Napili Bay; Oneloa Beach, Honolua Bay & the adjoining Mokule'ia (or Slaughterhouse) Beach.

At the end of a short cul-de-sac this front row villa has panoramic views of the ocean & the island of Molokai. In season whale watching from the lanai is a MUST (with an owner provided telescope and binoculars). Although located just minutes from Lahaina the villa is situated in a lavishly landscaped & peaceful setting. This end of the island benefits from the Trade Winds which you will find are very welcome!

It's a short walk to the nearest Association pool with well maintained BBQ's & a covered, outdoor kitchen area (includes oven, stove, refrigerator, microwave, tables & chairs). Around the corner is the Ritz Carlton with its fine restaurants & amenities. Groceries stores are also convenient - the closest (walking distance for some) boasts an espresso bar, fresh vegetables & fine meats. Next door to that is 'The Sansei', advertised as Maui's best sushi restaurant. There are two excellent spas nearby (the Ritz Carlton and the Montage Spa).

This spacious one-level home has been in our family for more than 25 years. In 2011 Richard & Joan (& families) purchased it from our Father's estate & began the update/remodel of the entire unit. We hope that you will enjoy your memories of vacations in Maui. We welcome you to our home.

About Dennis & Joan

Richard Lowry & Joan Hartsough were siblings. They both were married and retired. Richard & Jeri have three children & one grandson. Richard's family live in Vancouver in Washington State. They are owned by a dog, chickens, a rabbit, a large vegetable garden & a number of fruit trees. He was an avid collector of antique furniture which he refinished in his garage (The Midbro Workshop).

Joan & Dennis live in Anderson in northern California on about 2 acres. They have 5 children & 7 grandchildren in addition to two dogs, 5 chickens, a cat, a vegetable garden & assorted fruit trees.

Maui is a labor of love for our families - a living tribute to our parents/grandparents who loved Hawaii since being stationed there in the 1950's. They purchased this villa in the early 1990's.

Richard passed away in February 2012. The last year of his life he was excited about purchasing, remodeling & bringing his family back to Maui for vacations.

Dennis & Joan purchased this villa in 2011

Why Dennis & Joan chose Maui

Joan & Richard's father was career Navy - we moved about every 4 years. In the early 1950's our dad was stationed in Pearl Harbor & thus was born the family's love of the Hawaii Islands. At that time shots were required to visit to the Islands & our transportation by military transport ships. To this day Richard & Joan still prefer flip-flops to shoes!.

After retirement our folks wintered in Maui & eventually purchased this condo. All of their friends, children, in-laws, & grandchildren visited whenever possible. When our parents died we were determined to keep the villa to continue the tradition of family vacations & to share the experience with you.

After extensive remodeling we hope you will enjoy your visit with us. We have used the villa as a base to visit the other islands; taken every kind of whale watching boat; seen the sun rise over Haleakala Volcano; snorkeled; bicycled; eaten fresh pineapple in the fields; sampled many great restaurants; seen amazing shows; visited all of the tourist spots & spent money in most of the stores. Each experience was enjoyable, But our favorite thing to do in Maui is nothing. We sit on the lanai with a good book & a cold drink hoping to stay here forever.

What makes this villa unique

The view to Molokai is spectacular. The Ridge is beautifully landscaped and our 4-plex villa is secluded from the other buildings. We enjoy our unique privacy from every window; the wind in the palm trees & sound of the waves on Oneloa Bay. There's a fine walking trail along the shoreline connecting 5 of the Kapalua beaches just below the villa. Stores & restaurants, golf & swimming are convenient. This location, outside of Lahaina, is quiet, cooler, & restful.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you. Our family - which included my husband, three children (ages 9 7 and 4 yrs), and myself - had a fantastic vacation in Maui! Your villa surpassed our expectations. It had everything we needed and plenty of space - it was very comfortable. We enjoyed the condo pool - several times - this was a huge hit with the children. We also spent time exploring the local beaches. Oneloa Bay was great for boogie boarding (and the boggie boards in the condo were terrific!). We also spent a few days at Kapalua Beach - this was hands down our favorite beach - great for snorkeling, plenty of rocks to climb. We rented a paddleboard from Boss Frogs (paddle boards on the beach were $40/hour. Boss Frogs in Napili Stripmall rented paddleboards for $50/day!). The kids loved this beach - waves were perfect, not too windy - absolutely the best. We also went to J. T. Fleming Beach and Honolua Bay - and saw turtles in both places. Overall we had a great beach, snorkeling, swimming and paddle/boogie board vacation. The kids cannot wait to return to Maui.

Relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

We planned this trip 10 months ago with the intent of staying in a highly amenitized 2 bedroom condo in Kapalua. We invited our daughter and son-in-law to join us on this well deserved vacation.

I'm a big fan of vrbo and we typically make our lodging decisions based on feedback from previous occupants. Our decesion to select this Kapalua Villa was an easy choice.

The owners of this property were delightful to work with prior to arrival.

We arrived late in the evening and upon entering the condo we were blown away by the warm beauty of this unit.

We chose to turn on all of the room air conditioning units during our first night. After opening all of the windows on day one we chose to spend the rest of our stay with the ac off while enjoying the sound of the surf and strong cool trade winds throughout the condo. The condo was well stocked with everything required to meet our needs...kitchen, bathroom and beach chairs/ umbrellas.

The furniture decor was 1st class-Asian themed cabinetry. Tv's and Internet in every room.Great for watching college football and a DVR for those of us who like to record and watch shows.

By far the best room in this condo for us was the lanai. We spent most of our time out on the lanai enjoying the view of Molokai and the Pacific Ocean- morning, noon and night.

We chose to eat most of our breakfast and lunches in the condo in addition to half of our dinners. We found that eating in was just as romantic as eating out.

I'm a big user of VBRO and would highly recommend this unit.

Beautiful Villa, Perfect location, Amazing hosts!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at this Villa in Maui was the highlight of our Hawaii vacation! The location is perfect a very short walk to beautiful Oneloa beach and a small car hop or shuttle ride to several other beautiful beaches. We really enjoyed boogie & body surfing at Napili! Snorkeling in very nearby Honolua bay was amazing, the best snorkel spot we found between Maui and the Big Isle on our trip. The Villa was extremely well stocked, was wonderfully laid out, and was very private and relaxing. Everything was clean and well maintained, we cooked a lot in the kitchen and it was very well stocked. In all the Villa worked perfectly for our family w/ young boys (9 - 13) and our parents. The back patio was so convenient for lounging and for hosing off & laying out the day's swim & snorkelwear.. Joan and Dennis truly put the experience over the top with their thoughtfulness and tons of great advice leading up to our stay. We can't thank them enough for really topping off the experience with their hospitality. THANK YOU!! BTW, just some tips -- the Honolua store down the street by the Ritz was surprisingly reasonable in price for food , souvenirs & necessities, I guess it is owned by ABC now so prices were very similar. Also "Mala" in Lahaina was excellent for dinner (high $ but great & interesting food and view).

Owner's Response: And we loved having you visit us. Anyone to travels to Maui with me will tell you that if it is cloudy as the sun sets it is impossible to talk to me. I run up & down the lanai with my camera pointing & shooting demanding everyone appreciate the beauty of the colors. It is my favorite place to be at the end of a day in Maui.

Wonderful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely vacation and the property was an excellent choice for our family. It's very close to the beach and we enjoyed walking all around the area. The house can really accommodate all ages and we appreciated being able to use the beach chairs, soft cooler, towels and the binoculars. We even saw a whale from the balcony. It was a delight and a treat to stay here. I would recommend this property for all. Thank you for making it so comfortable for our family.

Owner's Response: We're so glad that you found everything you needed to enjoy a relaxing visit with your family in our home. We vacation there also (although it is a working vacation to keep the villa repaired and maintained). So we also want to have all of the 'necessities' required for a day at the beach or for relaxing on the lanai. Your feedback makes us feel like we succeeded. Mahalo!

Such a wonderful property and location. We have stayed at the Ridges before but this one by far exceeded our expectations. Everything and anything you needed was there.

Joan and Dennis left us a nice bottle of wine and some fantastic coffee for us to enjoy. We aren't sure if the TV's work (LOL) we didn't go to Maui to watch them.Joke, yes they work I had to stay up on the March Madness. We could see whales from the property thru out our stay. The property is located very close to the pool and BBQ that we may use of.The bedrooms and baths are very large and the beds put us to sleep nightly!!. The only thing that is missing from the Villa is YOU. Get to the beautiful Villa and enjoy it like we did. ALOHA

Thanks Joan and Dennis for providing a home away from home.

Owner's Response: You're right, all we needed for a perfect guest was you! We do work hard to make sure everything you might need is in the villa because we vacation there also. VERY SELFISH of us really! We appreciate that you treated our home as if it were your own - the minor repairs that you did and the beach equipment that you left behind. We hope March Madness didn't disappoint, but there's not much we can do about that . . . . . .Our doors are always open to you!

Beautiful upgraded/large 2 bedroom

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. We checked out the villa and went to bed after a long day of travel. I slept in the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The waves could be heard thru the cracked door to the lanai.

This condo is completely upgraded and is nicer than our own home;) We kept finding closets and more closets! And they were filled with everything you need for Hawaii and more! Boogie boards, beach towels/chairs, sand toys, inflatable rafts, first aid supplies, sunscreen. ..just to name a few. The kitchen was very well stocked with spices, coffee and many more. The dishes were beautiful.

I was completely in love with the master shower. There was no door. If you opened the small windows on top, you could see the lush trees and I felt like I was in a rainforest.

The pool was perfect for our 2 kids (11/14) and it was a short walk so they'd often go alone. The grill was next to the pool and was very clean. We didn't have to wait to use it either.

There are 3 beaches all walking distance (if you don't bring a lot of gear;) Kapalua Bay has wonderful snorkeling and a small parking lot. My hubby would drop us off with all our stuff and would walk back. The beach immediately in front of villa wasn't great for swimming as it was rocky in some parts.

Positives of this villa: Excellent value, well stocked kitchen and closets, can hear waves while sleeping (a must for us), upgraded and very large, nice pool and grill area, walking paths along beach, and can see whales from lanai.

Negative of this villa : There is a road in front of the villa, then another row of homes. The road can be busy and it started pretty early in the morning. We'd go to bed with the door closed and open it a crack later to hear the waves. Would close it once it started again. Hearing the waves is a huge deal for us, so that's why I'm listing it as a negative.

Overall, we were very impressed with the villa and hope to return again someday!! Thank you Joan and Dennis! !

Owner's Response: Feeling at home is just exactly the response we are hoping for from our guests. Being able to walk to the Kapalua beaches is a big plus to us also because of the limited public parking. The Kapalua shuttle can also help with transportation. We're sorry about the noise from the road was a problem. It is restricted it at night - prohibiting trucks and motorcycles. (Lower Honoapi'ilani Road hugs the coast from Ka'anapali to Kapalua and ends just beyond The Ridge subdivision.) We're glad the BBQ's, pool, beaches, and villa worked out perfectly for you. We'd love to welcome you back!
