Charming, quiet, yet fun for the whole family.

  • 5 of 5

My husband, my two sons, our dog and myself stayed at this property for 5 nights in July and we will be back! We brought our kayaks and we had the whole lake and large beach to ourselves. The lake was clean and beautiful and every night we had a fire in the fire pit, cooked out and relaxed by the gorgeous sunset over the lake. The cottage is clean, spacious and charming and the owners were very accommodating and easy to work with! We got lost along the way but they helped us find it. We had a blast at this quiet beach house and can't wait to go back!

Good for short notice. Defiantly look around first. This is like a last resort type of stay.

  • 3 of 5

It's a nice spot. It needs some major updating. The trash wasn't emptied and one of the table legs is being held up by an old paper napkin(ew). No a.c. The cable is so basic you'd probably get more channels with an antenna. Kinda just dirty even for a beach house. Water is pretty and neighbors are nice. Might want to bring your own pillows. Several windows wouldn't open(bummer with no a.c.). The sink sprays the window when you use the hand held part. Reminds me of maybe visiting a friends families old cabin that hasn't been fully loved for a while. Was good on short notice but definately priced to high for what it was. Furniture could have been found at a yard sale or alley. Generally I wouldn't complain, but given the high price and low amenities it's fitting- but Michigan is so pretty that it didn't matter.

Great get-away

  • 4 of 5

First, I must say, the private beach was spectacular. The water is very warm on this side of the bay. Several yards of pristine beach. Plenty of room for fireworks! Great fire pit. It looks like a collaborative beach care effort by neighbors to comb the beach and keep it nice. The house was nice with a nice concrete porch, large living room with plenty of seating if you plan on spending any time in the home. Dining area in the back of the house was large with a nice view of the lake. Despite the photo, the beach has no seaweed, and the water has hardly any seaweed. No-doubt due to the higher sea levels. The house is on a hill, so the views are awesome. Gas grill is new, and had half a tank of propane, which was plenty, but I hope the homeowners keep propane available for future renters.

Now for the negatives. Upon arrival, we discovered that we had to clean the bathroom sink as it was dirty, and we had to sweep the spare bedrooms and part of the living room. The pots and pans that we used had to be cleaned. And if the homeowners want you to clean the dishes you used, they should leave dish soap in the house. Comforters had dust on them. There was no bathroom tissue, or paper towels, and only a couple of napkins left in the holder. When you pay the price we paid for just a two night stay (probably made their monthly mortgage payment with just two days stay, and no it wasn't $200 a night like the website advertises), hotel quality provisions are expected, and they just weren't there. One strange thing to note, is the bathroom door has a window on it visible to the kitchen, so plan on hanging a sheet over the door to block the view to the toilet. There is no room to park any kind of trailer unless you have only one vehicle parking there, so plan on putting your boat trailer somewhere else if it is large. One of the ceiling fans is not balanced, and it is an issue in a house with no A/C. There are two floor fans to counter the heat issue though.

All in all, despite the issues, we would stay there again. That beach is just amazing. Close proximity to North Island. Lake at the beach is deep enough at about 40 to 60 yards to moor your boat for the weekend. The beach is the primary reason for our visit to this house, so that is the reason for the 4 star rating! You will enjoy this property!

5 out of 10 stars.

Place was cleaned OK. I could tell they have an issue with mice in the past. Grill was very dirty from the last renters. Ceramic tile Iwas falling off the baseboards of the floor. The outside patio was never cleaned . Bathroom had moldy shower curtain and water spout was falling out of the wall. Place should be priced lower if the cabin will remain in that condition.

Also, next door neighbor was not nice, but I'm sure it's because they are tired of dealing with renters.

Owner's Response: Thank you for letting me know about these issues. We have a pest control company check and spray the house bi annually so I will address this with them. The shower curtain was already addressed. I have contacted my cleaning company about the outside patio and grill that should have been clean. I will have to check on the water spout. It was fixed but obviously is broken again. I will make sure the issues are taken care of.
