About this property

Luxury Chalet On Remote Ranch With Crystal Clear Creek, not near crowded Leakey

This private ranch is on the upper Nueces River, located at the headwaters of Bullhead Creek. Behind the cabin runs a spring which flows into the creek. The fishing and swimming are off the chart, deep clear water entered by rock steps. Two story restored log cabin/chalet with fireplace, upstairs deck with view of canyons and cliffs. Two bedrooms, two baths, full up to date kitchen and dining, lovely rock work, outdoor fire pit and barbecue grill, overlooking crystal clear spring-fed Bullhead Creek. Remote location miles from neighbors. WiFi available, Cell phones don't work. Land line for local calls. Fishing, hiking, bird watching, photography. The view from the upper deck is reminiscent of Colorado, the bubbling spring some 30 feet below, running down through the canyon. This luxuriously furnished chalet is not suitable for small children.

Annular Eclipse !
We stayed here for the annular solar eclipse. Our host was generous and allowed us to setup our telescope equipment, etc where ever we wanted. The property was lovely, and the house spotless. We did use the gas outside grill.

Great Escape
Just what we needed to get away from the outside world a few days in a very beautiful cabin. Relaxing on the porch watching all the birds was the best. Can't wait to do it again.

Great place to completely disconnect.
My husband and I took our nieces over the 4th of July weekend, just to get out of the city, and had an amazing trip. We had the entire property to ourselves, so we were able to float in the river, hike the old dry creek beds, explore the hills and valleys, all by ourselves. We brought an outdoor projector and did an outdoor movie night with s’mores and popcorn that we popped on the fire that we built on site. The house is very well equipped with anything you could ever need. You can tell that Sonja takes extreme joy in beautiful artwork and furnishings. She was a wonderful host!

Great Property
We had a great stay at the property, and the owner was responsive when the A/C wasn’t working by allowing us to use the other house. The swimming hole was great and you’re truly secluded. If you’re looking for a beautiful hill country hideaway this is a fantastic choice. I called back a few days later to ask about staying there again and we were informed we weren’t welcome there again because I had a dog there. She is my service animal and very well trained and behaved, but I found out we left a puddle of pee in the back. I’m guessing she was marking. I know laws prohibit discrimination against someone who has a service animal and per VRBO I am not required to disclose that I am bringing a service animal. All things considered I’m at fault for not seeing a puddle of pee so I will not leave a negative review. I would be upset if someone left dog pee in my house, even if it were a service animal, so I cannot blame the owner for being upset.

Why they chose this property

Ambush Hill is an end of the road property, located in the rough lands west of the Hill Country. The cabin/chalet is built around an old trapper's log cabin and is exquisitely furnished with all modern conveniences as well as unique artwork. The views are breath taking, the atmosphere is clear of pollution and the quiet can be unsettling.
