I love the outdoors and have been lucky enough to live in some very beautiful places. I hope you and your family find the same joy in the outdoors, in this place!
Owner Terry Michel purchased this cottage in 2013
I briefly worked in this area and fell in love with this peaceful location. I purchased this cottage and spent many months renovating the home and cleaning the lake access with a lot of help from friends and family.
My family spent the week here during the week of May 19-26. We had a great time! The days started with watching the sun rise over the lake. This was followed by either a kayak or pontoon ride taking off from the dock just feet away from the back door. Although we didn't fish, many people were catching bluegill, bass, and perch. The cottage is 15 minutes from Shipswanna where you can enjoy visiting many Amish stores. The streets are shared by both automobile and Amish buggies. There is also a VERY large flea market which opens Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There are many activities around the cottage as well including an Amish "Safari" where you can pet and feed both farm animals and exotic animals. It was fun for the entire family. The days usually ended with a fire in the awesome fire pit overlooking the lake.We plan on returning several times this Summer.
We were scheduled to rent the home for 10 days. Due to the unexpected death of my father, we were only able to stay in the house for one night and unfortunately had to leave. The home is beautiful, cozy and a perfect vacation retreat.
The owners went far and beyond what was reasonable and from deep in my heart we truly appreciate it. We will be back next year and for many years to come.
Thank you very much!!
We go to shipshewana every year for a nice relaxing trip. This is the first time we stayed at this property and would definitely rent it again. It is close but far away enough to be relaxing and quiet. The lake, basically the back yard, is beautiful at sunrise and sunset. It was lovely to relax on the deck in the glider while my husband enjoyed catching some fish. They were certainly biting and he caught four in about as many minutes the first day he put in his line. A charming cottage and enjoyable stay. The Owner was easy to deal with and prompt in her responses to any questions.
My wife and I along with my wife's parents stayed here in July, August, and now in September. Each stay was perfect. The lake is only footsteps away from the front door. The dock is in great shape and the firepit is brand new. We spent many nights gazing at the lake around a campfire. There are two paddle boats along with a kayak and a pontoon boat. No need to bring chairs. There are chairs, beach toys, and even some fishing equipment on the premises. If you like experiencing Amish life, Shipshewana is only about 15 minutes away. We are already planning to return for several weeks next year.
This place was perfect for us. My wife and I have three kids all under the age of 5 and they had a blast sleeping in the bunk beds, playing in the water, fishing off the pier, turtle watching, and taking leisurely rides on the pontoon boat. This lake is very quiet and great for swimming while the weather is cooperative. The home was well kept and it is ready to go as is and is very accessible. Very few locked doors and aside from some obvious off limit items, the owner seems to adhere to the motto, "my home is your home". Very cool and much appreciated by someone like myself that grew up with a lake home. It felt like we were staying at a relatives home and that trust is tough to come by. The only recommendation I would leave with parents of very young kids is to bring a child gate for the top of the stairs. They are very steep and there is not a lot of walking space at the top, so it is easy to see how a young child may slip or miss a step and take a tumble. Having a toddler there would have been very nerve racking and I am glad my kids were over 3 years of age. Having provided that minor warning, for a chill family vacation on a lake, this is the place for you!
Our family had a wonderful time. The house was very pleasant and clean. The property owner was also great. We will be looking at going back in the future years for our family vacations.
