About this property

Private Cottage with Waterfront

We invite you to stay in our newly remodeled camp with a huge new screened in room. The 3 bedroom, 2 bath home offers the best of all Adirondack worlds: a great mix of evergreen and hardwoods, ultimate privacy on nine acres of land, 972 feet of waterfront on Lake Clear Outlet giving you access to Lake Clear and Mill Pond.

It is a short drive to The Wild Center and Paul Smith’s interpretive center. It is just a quick 10 miles to Saranac Lake, 5 miles to upper Saranac Lake, and 20 to the Olympic Village of Lake Placid.

Two canoes and two Kayaks are provided for you to enjoy the St. Regis Canoe area and the many connecting ponds and lakes. There is outstanding bass and pike fishing on our waterfront, Mill Pond, and Lake Clear, and the High Peaks trails are close by. It’s just a short paddle, motor (20hp max) boat ride, or a beautiful easy hike to an awesome private, sandy beach on NYS land! Enjoy the shops and restaurants in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid or get away from everything at our camp near the end of a private road.

Secluded home in the midst of the Adirondacks
We found the home to be very nicely furnished with everything we possibly needed, including plenty of linens, kitchenware, and a washer dryer. The home was located in an area that was convenient to nearby towns and hiking trails. The large screened in porch was a nice place to hang out and relax when we weren't out and about. There is a private dock with 2 kayaks, 1 canoe, a stand up paddleboard and paddleboat (we didn't use the paddleboat I find them to be way too slow), and a "boating equipment shed" that has so much in the way of paddles and life jackets that it rivals any small sporting goods store. It's about a 10-15 minute paddle to the main road that divides the large Lake Clear with the tributary that runs past the house, and there's a tunnel underneath you can paddle through, but you need to duck your head. There's a fire ring on the side of the home, and there's plenty of firewood, enough to last several seasons by my guess, although we couldn't find any firestarter so don't forget to bring some of your own along with the marshmallows and sticks to hold them. The property is about as secluded as you can possibly get. Once you turn off the main road, and onto the private road that is clearly marked as such, there's one home on the left, and after you travel perhaps a mile or so down the road, there is only this property and one other occupied home which are neighbors and are listed as people to contact in case of a problem. You probably won't see them or anyone else during your stay. There's one other nearby home but it appears to be part time, seasonal use only if it's even used at all. Potential renters should know that while the home is "waterfront" it's really on a relatively narrow tributary between Lake Clear and a smaller lake. The water in front of the home is a thin strip that connects both of the larger lakes, and it's not visible from the home. There were lots of mosquitos despite the screening on the porch and all the windows, we tried to figure out where they were all coming from but no luck there. Also the internet is slow and sporadic, sometimes it worked at a reasonable speed other times it would not load at all, despite attempts by the property owners to make it work. Otherwise I have no issues with the property.

Beautiful camp!
Thank you to Camp JoAl for having us during our stay!! The camp was absolutely beautiful and well stocked with everything we needed. The furniture was so nice and the screened in porch was the perfect place to enjoy the evenings. The location is wonderful - a short kayak ride takes you to a small beach opening on Lake Clear. You are very close to Saranac Lake (which our family preferred over Lake Placid because of the better restaurant scene). But still extremely secluded and peaceful. The layout of the house is perfect and bedrooms are separated so no one felt on top of one another. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience!!

Beautiful Property
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely, well-maintained camp. The house has everything we needed for our stay and is beautifully decorated. The setting is private and peaceful. The outlet is calm and ideal for paddling and fishing. We loved relaxing on the large, enclosed porch and having campfires at night.

August visit to Lake Clear
This is a terrific property in my family's favorite part of the Adirondacks. This was our second time staying in the house, and we enjoyed it every bit as much this year as we did last year.

Blissful Week with family in this Spacious Cabin
This was such a great cabin we could not think of much to improve on. In fact this might be the cabin we now compare others to! There was lots of space (so many beds to choose from and spread out), ultimate privacy from other camps, everything we could possibly need to cook, play and just enjoy time together. Hiked and explored by day, paddled (loved not having to rent small craft or bring our own) to the sand bar on Lake Clear and swam in the evening, fire pit memories (nicely seasoned wood), wonderful screen porch (can not say enough) best place ever to sleep, owner and caregivers took care of needs that arose due to unforeseen circumstances from weather without missing a beat. Beds were super comfortable, lots of box fans for warm days, ample parking was also a plus. Visited Lake Clear Beach, The Wild, Whiteface, Saranac Lake and several Mt and Lake/Pond Trails without spending alot of travel time to do it. Great Location! We would love to come back. This is a true gem!

About the host

My husband and I live in Illinois and have traveled to the Adirondacks to spend a week with extended family for 40 years. Our children and their cousins have memories of canoe trips, High Peaks hikes, picking raspberries, and songs and skits around the campfire. They continue to come to gather from Texas, Utah, California, and Dubai. They now have their own families and want to continue making memories and strengthening relationships.

Why they chose this property

This property gives us waterfront to send off canoes and to play. It is on 9 acres, so we can sing and play without disturbing others. It has a comfortable place to sleep and a wonderful huge screened in porch for gathering.

What makes this property unique

This property is close to canoe routes and High Peaks hiking trails, near cultural activities and attractions, and a short drive from Saranac Lake and Lake Placid for shopping and restaurants. At the same time you are surrounded by forests and across the water from quiet state land.
