The island house is located on nearly 5 acres of unspoilt ocean front covered in spruce and lupins. There is huge wrap around verandah that faces the setting sun overlooking crooked channel and the comings and goings of the local fishermen. Most mornings you will be greeted by great blue heron or deer wandering the property. Wild life and sea life surround you on the island. If you are outgoing and adventurous you can convince either randal or junior, both local fishermen, to take you out to see pilot whales, mackerel runs and maybe more. The interior of the house has cherry wood flooring throughout with natural pine walls and ceilings. There is a large vermont casting fireplace in the livingroom surrounded by library as well as a baby grand piano. The kichen is tradional with beautiful replica antique gas burning stove. There are 3 bedrooms. 2 are large and cozy with dormer windows the 3rd is used as a spare for guest. The kids room has 2 built in ships beds the house is quite eclectic with furnishings and art gathered from world travels. The lahave islands are a sea kayakers paradise with many outfitters nearby and most traffic you encounter on the islands are cyclist touring. And if you are a windsurfer is does not get much better than on the north east side of crescent beach when the winds are blowin a near gale. Beaches abound around the islands. In fact you drive across the 1km crescent beach to get to the lahave islands. Rissers beach provincial park is also one of your neighbors. The lahave island museum is a short walk from the property. It has a remarkeable collection celebrating the history and life of the islands there are 2 local stores for keeping the larder stocked as well liquid refreshment and there are a number of local lobstermen who sell from their docks. There are a number of legendary distractions in the area such as the lahave bakery and petite riviere winery. Local art shows and firehall breakfasted ,dinners and musical evenings are part of summer life around the islands. Farther a field is the lahave river ferry which will get you over to lunenburg for sailing excursions, whale watching and a chance to stroll the decks of the bluenose.
As an international war correspondent for CTV, my wife, Bobbie and I wanted to create a place where our children could experience what it meant to be Canadian. There was no question in our minds, that the LaHave Islands represented for us the beauty and magnificence of the East Coast of Canada and the essence of what island life in Nova Scotia really means.
Geof Richards purchased this house in 1995
This property offers a sanctuary away from the the world. The construction of the porch with its face to the rise and fall of the sun provides the inspiration to free fall into what life has to offer. The waterfront encompassing the five acres of forest beckons both children and adults to explore the wildlife offered by the land and the sea.
The coziness of the home with its wood and unique furnishings offer families the retreat they are looking for, away from the urban scene.
The veranda presents a view of paradise every time the sun rises and sets. Sitting on the comfortable chairs overlooking the water provides an escape into a world that holds beauty and reverence. The wild life that flies, swims, and walks through this vista offer a perspective on life that transcends the rigour of day-to-day life.

We had an amazing time, they even have a baby grand piano which we put to good use. The house has a lived in, happy vibe, you didn't have to tiptoe around in this home. I could easily spend a summer here!
Lots to do in the area, with the museum a short walk away. Perfect for couples or families. We even swam in the channel!
Maybe bring a few extra towels if you plan on going to one of the many beaches.
We enjoyed this lovely, well-designed house, its wonderful collection of art from all over the world, its fine library, the great location in the private cove, and its proximity to interesting places like Lunenburg, Petite Revere, LaHave. The public areas of the house and the well-equipped kitchen were very well arranged for our party which consisted of two couples. Loved the porch and the views. Water access is wade-only. We noted the house is about 95% finished – window and door surrounds either missing or done with painter’s tape. Note there is really only one ‘master’ bedroom with a double bed: the second bedroom, which also has great views, has two built-in small beds. The third (tiny) room has an opening to the hallway, so is not acoustically private. We have several recommendations: a printed list of how to’s for the house, including segmenting recycling and garbage disposal. Larger and clearly defined recycling containers are needed. Suggest trimming the weeds around the house; at first view it looks deserted. Last, and most important, the beds and the bedding. The beds are terribly uncomfortable and the bedding needs to be thoroughly refreshed. The mattresses need to be replaced. If the owner expects to attract HomeAway customers, a good night’s sleep is essential. With that important improvement this home would be near-perfect.
My family spent a week at fools cove. The house was extremely comfortable, with lots of books, games and a piano. The property is scenic and private, not ideal for swimming, but very nice beaches are nearby.
We spent an amazing week at this wonderful retreat! The cottage is beautifully appointed. We enjoyed the incredible views from the porch, watching the sun set every evening was a highlight of our day. The library is outstanding and there are so many games you don't even miss not being connected. Our boys thought it was the best place ever when they discovered the bin of Lego and stacks of comic books in their room! The cool breezes at night and absolute silence made for wonderful sleeping. We will definitely be back!
The area has some wonderful beaches, Crescent Beach, Cherry Hill Beach and Rissers were our favourites. The LaHave bakery is a great place for lunch. Don't miss the Maritime Painted Saltbox, the art is incredible and the artists are so much fun to talk to! The LaHave Island Marine Museum is a must see!
We loved the house & location was perfect. It was fantastic& so relaxing! . Great views with ability to sit on 3 sides of the house to view the water. Very quiet location, just birds & occasional small boat sounds. House lovely & very comfortable with an unbelievable library of books. My husband had 3 books on the go. Great to have been there in rainy weather to spend full days reading in the rain.
Not having Wifi was great especially when grandchildren came overnight. Got to play games , play the piano etc. instead of them being connected!!!!
Kayaking superb with easy water access right off property. A kayaker's dream meandering in & around the islands. 2 wonderful sandy beaches to enjoy nearby as well.
Biking was also great on quiet roads on the island & on the highway which had very little traffic.
Fireplace though listed wasn't functional . Luckily it was warm & sunny so no need for it other than ambiance.
Owner's son very helpful with questions etc. Gardens grown over a little but new plantings of vegetables at our disposal which was nice. Loved the nasturtiums in my salads!
Would definitely go back again. We just loved the place & would highly recommend it.
LaHave bakery a must for lunch, breads etc. but no wifi available there.
