~ We can only rent to Family Groups. Horry County Zoning Rental Ordinance Article IV, Section 431: Non-family groups (unmarried young adults, high school or college students, or any other group-type situation) are not allowed.

~ Bring your own sheets and towels or rent them locally.

~ Holidays and Summer: Sunday - Sunday, 7 day minimum

~ Off Season: 4 day minimum

The Vagabond is located in the private residential neighborhood of Long Bay Estates which is far from the busy hotel beaches but a quick drive to everything you need. Since there is no public parking or access to its beach front and no through traffic, you'll find a peaceful get away from Myrtle Beach's hubbub of activity.

The house has spacious living areas for combined family vacationers. Hardwood oak and pine floors throughout the house help those with allergies. A well equipped kitchen with cabinet of spices and garden of herbs is popular with the cooks. From the breakfast room and back porch, watch eagles catch fish and swans swimming on the lake or paddle it in our canoe and get up close with the turtles and ducks.

Enjoy the 60 foot long front porch with 9 rockers, table, and a double swing. There are kiddie gates at the stairs on both porches. When the kids tire of the playground under the house they have only a 200 yard hop and skip to the beach. From there a ten minute walk lands you at the Myrtle Beach State Park with its playgrounds, nature center, trails, fishing, and coffee and ice-cream at the pier gift shop! Also enjoy riding our bikes around the neighborhood or along the paved paths of Market Common.

The living area is upstairs above the large garage and screened in porch.

BEDROOMS: Bring your own linens or rent locally and they will be delivered to the house.

Mediterranean Suite - King bed with reading lamps, 39' Flat Screen TV, sofa, coffee table, two closets, private bath with jacuzzi tub, double sink vanity, shower stall, toilet. Many windows for a peaceful view of the Live Oak tree and lake. Outside door leads to back porch which includes a private sunning deck.

Lakeview Room - Queen bed with reading lamps, love seat, 32” Flat screen TV. French doors open to back screened in porch with Adirondack chairs, table and chairs and beautiful view of the lake. Sleeps 2.

Stowaways’ Bunk Room - sleeps 2. Great for the kids. Window looks onto back sunning deck.

Caribbean Queen Room - sleeps 2. Window looks onto front porch.

de Bayou Family Suite - Double Bed and Bunk Beds. Window looks onto front porch. Sleeps 4.

LIBRARY: Includes a futon and bookshelves with popular fiction. It is a quiet place to catch up on your pleasure reading. Our Internet modem and wifi router are plugged in here. Pass through this room to the master suite through curtained french doors.

DINING AREAS: Have your meals in the breakfast room which seats 10 or in our graciously furnished dining room which seats up to 8. The back porch has an iron table for 4 while the front porch has a picnic table for 8 and the downstairs screened in porch has a picnic table for 6.

KITCHEN: Spices, 1 cooktop, 1 stove with a double oven, 2 sinks, Bosch dishwasher, microwave, blender, coffee maker & grinder, crock pot, refrigerator with ice maker, hand mixer. 1 high chair, 2 booster chairs, 1 portable booster seat are stored in the garage. There is a love seat and TV mounted on wall.

LAUNDRY: Washer and Dryer behind bifold doors in breakfast room with tabletop ironing board and iron.

LIVING ROOM: 39' TV with Bluray DVD player. CABLE. Large selection of DVD movies and Music CD Player & CDs in AV cabinet. Relax and read from the large library of books in the house or choose from many board games or puzzles to play in the dining room side board.

UNDER THE HOUSE: You'll find kiddie swings, a slide, a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe, and beach toys. Screened room with two hammocks, two rockers, and a picnic table receives a breeze and is a nice place to nap. In the garage is another fridge for your beach drinks and a Weber charcoal grill. You can lock up your car, beach gear and more in the garage. A canoe, 3 small children's bikes and 6 adult bikes are provided for your enjoyment. There is an unfinished 1/2 bath in the garage. After the beach, rinse off the sand in one of 2 Hot and Cold enclosed outside showers.

We are 3.5 miles from the upscale Market Common shopping area with restaurants, movie theater and the Grand Park Athletic Complex in the old Air Force property and 5 miles from the Grand Strand where you will find Family Kingdom Amusement Park, the Sky Wheel, zip lining and more. 2.5 miles to Huffman Helicopter tours by the airport. 4.5 miles to the Myrtle Beach International Airport.

About Heather Swift

I'm a school librarian and sixth of nine siblings who have inherited this property. The picture of me is from the beach when I was about 3 yrs old. l am holding a toy phone to my brother's ear. Please call me if you have any questions. I still like to talk! :-) My earliest memory of staying here is when my grandmother rented this house out, but kept the master suite (the current library) for herself as a get away. We came to visit and had to sleep in a tent in the back yard.

Why Heather Swift chose Long Bay Estates

My grandmother bought this house in her retirement as a pre-fab ranch in 1969. She made the newspaper for being the first house brought to the area on a tractor trailer. She chose Long Bay for it's quiet residential neighborhood and proximity to art workshops at Spring Maid Beach. She called it 'The Counting House' and rented it yearly to military families from the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. In 1989 Hurricane Hugo hit and knocked her off it's foundation; thus, she became the 'Vagabond'. Our father designed the additions and she was rebuilt on stilts according to federal guidelines. Momma Bette passed away in 2003 at 102 years old. The house is now owned by her daughter and grandchildren and her great grandchildren are enjoying it too. When we go down we find it most comfortable with two families and the grandparents.

What makes this house unique

We love the quiet atmosphere in our residential neighborhood away from the crowds; but, if we want entertainment it's all minutes from our house. We love walking (the little ones run all the way) to the pier for ice cream cones at the State Park and Murrell's Inlet is one of our favorite places to find local seafood. The Vagabond is a lovely peaceful place to get away from it all!

Thanks so much for the wonderfully equipped home.  The children loved it, young and old, all the games and the canoe.  We even took the net out and played volleyball on the beach.  Mom and dad loved fishing in the lake and caught a great variety and enough to keep them busy.  We would love to stay next year, 24th May- 31st of May, that will be 7 nights this time(maybe yall will throw that night in free)!

First impression of the property was a 7 out of 10. Outside appeal upon arrival needs some upgrades

Overall enjoyment of the rental was great. Beds were comfortable, although would be nicer if linens and towels provided. The lake in back and the closeness and privacy of the beach was wonderful. Location convenient to many other activities Kitchen well stocked with dishes and cooking needs. Loved outdoor showers for after returning from beach Hammocks, all rocking chairs, and front and back decks were made good use of. Our family greatly enjoyed our visit

We were pleased with the location of the house. So close to many things!

We also appreciated the character and spaciousness of the Vagabond. The kitchen was well equipped to prepare family meals. We stayed on the porches a great deal of the time and enjoyed the rockers! My only complaint is that maybe the housekeeping staff needs to pay more attention to details. The shower liner in the bath I used needs replacing. The filters in the heat/ac returns need to be cleaned or replaced. We enjoyed using the August app., to lock and unlock the front door.

Our rent is calculated by length of stay times rate plus $175 check-out cleaning fee plus 12% tax and a $250 refundable damage deposit.

Jan - March Off-season for stays of a month or longer rates are all inclusive $80 + tax and $250 refundable deposit. Three months (91 days) or more there is no tax. Your quote includes bath sets with bath mats, beach towels, and kitchen towels along with professionally made beds, but no paper products or soaps. Our cleaning service must come in every two or three weeks and this is included in the nightly rate. If you want it more often, it will be an additional $150 per visit.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 60 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
