Great relaxation location
This was our second visit to Ambush Hill Ranch in the last several years. The location is fantastic, isolated from the outside world, and ultra relaxing. The highlight of this four days was lounging on the long front porch with music and morning coffee or an evening drink and watching the dozens of cardinals as they engaged in their mating rituals during the day and watching the stars in the absolutely clear skies at night. After a couple of days and nights, you just want to move in and stay rather than leave and return to the outside world.

Host profile image
Sonja Klein is a native Texan and author of four books, 'Honk If You Married Sonja,' and 'Round Trip from Texas' and 'Ambushed by America,' and 'Saplings, Twigs and Switches, non-fiction books of travels and essays. She has traveled all over the world to adventurous destinations, including the Silk Road, the near and far east, the Trans-Siberian Railroad and other exotic countries. She resides on the ranch and grazes a few sheep and conducts hunts of exotic free-ranging game that roam the area.

Why they chose this property

Sonja purchased this ranch 20 years ago. As a 5th generation Texan whose ancestors emigrated to Texas in the 1800's, she and her family are people of the land. Her three brothers also own ranches and value land ownership and love of nature.

What makes this property unique

Ambush Hill Ranch is unique, beautiful and remote. The quiet at times can be unsettling. The unspoiled nature of the ranch is left to Mother Nature who cannot be bested. If you desire, peace, solitude and natural beauty unblemished by human desire, Ambush Hill is for you.
