About this property

Close to Surf and Yoga - 2 Hammocks Included

Nosara is like Hawaii as it was in 1940, but with high speed 'premium' DSL WiFi, and two hammocks. You are only 2 hours from the Liberia airport, and you can use a rental car, which you can pick up at the airport and drop in Nosara or we can send a van. This is a rustic surf town with dirt roads, friendly people, and lots of yoga and surfing going on. Your cottage is a 10 minute walk from the main surf beach, a five minute walk to the Yoga Institute, a two minute walk to the Spanish Language Institute, and "downtown." You are so close to downtown that, within a couple minutes walk, there is an ice cream shop, a mini-mart, a clinic, clothing stores, real estate offices, a bank, ATV and bike rentals, a lot of cafes and restaurants, and two surf shops, where you can rent boards and arrange for lessons. If you buy food at the nearby Cafe de Paris, you can swim in their pool. In the cottage, you have wireless high speed DSL internet, 24 hour on-call maintenence, local guides/maps, weekly housekeeping (daily housekeeping is optional), optional air conditioning (rarely needed), beach towels, ceiling fans, house linens are provided, a safe (will hold wallets, passports, 3 laptops), security (ornate ironwork on doors and windows), a blender, a juicer, a coffeemaker, a pressure cooker, a microwave, a refrigerator, a stove, a toaster, a rice cooker, optional personal laundry at $10 per load, a covered porch with two hammocks, off-road parking, outside shower, a large patio, patio furniture, and a beautiful yard. You are located above one of Nosara's many nature preserves and you will see a lot of wildlife. During the day the howler and spider monkeys play in the trees, pizotes wander through the yard (they love peanut butter), and tropical birds and butterflies fill the air around you. I walk to the beach twice a day to surf, and usually are not disappointed by what I find. Dawn and sunset surfing are the best if tides and winds are right. The locals are outstanding surfers, but they make room for visitors. In fact, I really can't say enough about the friendly, hospitable people of Nosara. They especially warm up to you when you try your Spanish on them. This is not just a rental house for income - I live here part of the year myself, and I have fixed it up to be cozy and complete. I don't scrimp on any of the amenities, because I like to fix things up nicely for myself as well. I bought this cottage after I had come to Nosara for years to surf and enjoy the food, scenery, monkeys, and local population. With the purchase of the cottage, I inherited a wonderful wife/husband team of managers, who are on the spot when anything needs attending to. They manage the gardens, the housekeeping, the laundry, the renter's needs, and renter scheduling. Several photos show surfboards, but they are not provided. We also tried to provide bikes to ride, but the salty air put a stop to that :)

Keywords: High speed DSL WiFi, surfing, bungalow, casita, private, monkeys visit, pizotes visit, A/C, fans, shopping, night life, safe for valuables (can fit 3 laptops, wallets, purses), secure (attractive ironwork is standard for Nosara), housekeeping service, laundry service, hammocks, off-road parking, covered and lighted patio, yoga institute nearby, yoga mat for your use, fishing, wildlife, nature preserve, waterfalls, zipline, beach, hiking.

Please be aware that when traveling in Central America, you may encounter water, electricity and internet outages. Service is slow. We do our best to keep everything working for you, but this is the situation.

Great little place in the jungle
Great little casita in the jungle barely 5min walk to Cafe de Paraiso and Organico grocery store. Not quite 10min walk to Bodhi Tree. Not too far from the beach either. Only issue we had was the town shutting off the water 4 of our 5 nights, due to drought conditions. Property manager was great to communicate with and brought jugs of water for us. All in all, it suited us well. Bit of road noise and yes, you'll see jungle bugs (mostly ants). Enjoyed being close to the shops and the Farmer's Market Tuesday morning. No vehicle needed; property manager arranged transportation to the casita and to the airport as well.

Great spot!
My partner and I loved our stay! The patio backs on to the jungle and onto trails which made walking around Nosara easy. The hammocks were a great touch as well we loved relaxing on them. This place was very clean, and we even had the housekeeper come once during our stay as it was over a week, and she was incredibly thorough. It was very nice to have a kitchen to use and a large fridge. We used the coffee maker and the blender a lot. There is a small organic grocery store within walking distance, and a fantastic bakery! While my partner and I loved our stay and will absolutely be booking this place again in the future it isn’t for everyone. If you are even a little freaky about bugs, this might not be your place. Because this unit backs onto the jungle as you can expect there are bugs, and at night time little ants and millipedes make their way in under the door. I would also like to state that these bugs are harmless and I never found one anywhere besides the floor. This is just a cautionary statement to anyone severely afraid of bugs. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

I'm 68 and retired from fire fighting. I've been a surfer all my life, and spent my retirement savings on this place down in Costa Rica. To support my aquatic habits, I run three pet-friendly vacation rentals in San Antonio, Texas. I live with my two Vizslas, Jack and Jill, in a cottage behind one of my rentals. This 400 square foot bachelor/dog pad is the ultimate down-sizing. If we can't cram it into our little cottages in Nosara and San Antonio, we don't need it. Three of my places are solar-powered, by the way.

Why they chose this property

I chose to split my time between Costa Rica and San Antonio because they bring together the yin and the yang of my life. I love splitting my time between San Antonio Mexican restaurants, Starbucks, and USA Today, on the one hand, and hanging out in the lineup off the big palm tree in Nosara on the other hand. My dogs feel that I need to find a girlfriend (maybe someone that can cook their favorite meals?), but I keep telling them that finding someone that will put up with us is going to be a challenge!

What makes this property unique

You can hear the sound of the surf from my patio. Watching the surf cam (google Nosara Surf Live Webcam) and listening to the volume of the waves tips us off if it's time to wax up. This property sits just east of a large national reserve, so the patio looks out onto jungle that will be there for generations to come. Our neighbors are renters, so the faces change, people come and go, and I meet many interesting people who are all here for the same reasons I'm here - surfing and yoga. My favorite things to do here include going to the health food store and buying gluten-free brownies, walking around on the many dirt roads in the area, and going down to the beach for the daily sunset party. A lot of the locals show up and just mingle while watching the sunset, and, sometimes, people stay and light a bonfire. There's a nice, several hour, walk up the beach all the way to Ostional, the turtle beach (or you can drive).
